Abstract

A prosthetic heart valve for replacement of a native heart valve having a native valve annulus includes a stent body having a proximal end adjacent an inflow end and a distal end adjacent an outflow end and including an annulus section, the stent body having a radially collapsed condition and a radially expanded condition, one or more prosthetic valve elements mounted to the stent body and operative to allow flow in an antegrade direction from the inflow end to the outflow end but to substantially block flow in a retrograde direction from the outflow end to the inflow end, a cuff coupled to the stent body, the cuff having a mobile portion that is moveable relative to the stent body, and at least one engagement element remote from the stent body.

Claims (27)

1 . A prosthetic heart valve for replacement of a native heart valve having a native valve annulus, comprising:

a laser cut stent body formed of a non-woven unitary structure having a proximal end adjacent an inflow end and a distal end adjacent an outflow end and including an annulus section, the stent body having a radially collapsed condition and a radially expanded condition, the non-woven unitary structure defining a plurality of cells cut out from the stent body and formed from interconnected cell struts;

one or more prosthetic valve elements mounted to the stent body and operative to allow flow in an antegrade direction from the inflow end to the outflow end but to substantially block flow in a retrograde direction from the outflow end to the inflow end;

a cuff coupled to the stent body, the cuff having a mobile portion that is moveable relative to the stent body; and

at least one engagement element remote from the stent body.

2 . The prosthetic heart valve of claim 1 , wherein the at least one engagement element comprises multiple engagement elements.

3 . The prosthetic heart valve of claim 1 , wherein the at least one engagement element comprises multiple hooks.

4 . The prosthetic heart valve of claim 3 , wherein the multiple hooks are configured to engage distal edges of a patient's native stenotic leaflets.

5 . The prosthetic heart valve of claim 3 , wherein the multiple hooks are configured to engage the native valve annulus.

6 . The prosthetic heart valve of claim 1 , wherein the at least one engagement element is coupled to the annulus section of the stent body.

7 . The prosthetic heart valve of claim 1 , wherein the at least one engagement element is integrally formed with the stent body.

8 . The prosthetic heart valve of claim 1 , wherein the at least one engagement element comprises nitinol.

9 . The prosthetic heart valve of claim 1 , wherein the at least one engagement element extends through the cuff.

10 . The prosthetic heart valve of claim 1 , wherein the mobile portion is evertable from a first condition axially aligned with the stent body to a second condition disposed about the stent body.

11 . The prosthetic heart valve of claim 1 , wherein the mobile portion is transitionable from a first condition not covering the stent body to a second condition covering the stent body.

12 . The prosthetic heart valve of claim 1 , wherein the mobile portion is transitionable from a first delivery condition to a second inside-out condition.

13 . The prosthetic heart valve of claim 1 , wherein the mobile portion comprises an entirety of the cuff.

14 . The prosthetic heart valve of claim 1 , wherein the mobile portion comprises less than an entirety of the cuff.

15 . The prosthetic heart valve of claim 1 , wherein the stent body is self-expandable.

16 . A method of implanting a prosthetic heart valve to a target site in a patient, comprising:

providing a prosthetic heart valve for replacement of a native heart valve having a native valve annulus, comprising a laser cut stent body formed of a non-woven unitary structure having a proximal end adjacent an inflow end and a distal end adjacent an outflow end and including an annulus section, the stent body having a radially collapsed condition and a radially expanded condition and the non-woven unitary structure defining a plurality of cells cut out from the stent body formed from interconnected cell struts, one or more prosthetic valve elements mounted to the stent body and operative to allow flow in an antegrade direction from the inflow end to the outflow end but to substantially block flow in a retrograde direction from the outflow end to the inflow end, a cuff coupled to the stent body, the cuff having a mobile portion, and at least one engagement element remote from the stent body;

engaging native tissue with the at least one engagement element; and

moving the mobile portion of the cuff relative to the stent body.

17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein engaging native tissue comprises engaging distal edges of a patient's native stenotic leaflets or a native valve annulus with the at least one engagement element.

18 . The method of claim 16 , wherein moving the mobile portion comprises everting the mobile portion from a first condition axially aligned with the stent body to a second condition disposed about the stent body.

19 . The method of claim 16 , wherein moving the mobile portion comprises transitioning the mobile portion from a first condition not covering the stent body to a second condition covering the stent body.

20 . The method of claim 16 , wherein moving the mobile portion comprises transitioning the mobile portion from a first delivery condition to a second inside-out condition.
