Abstract

A virtual meeting system is discussed herein. An online meeting application can provide a parallel virtual meeting between or among two or more participants of a main virtual meeting. The parallel virtual meeting permits two or more participants of the main virtual meeting to have a “smaller-sized” meeting in parallel with the main virtual speaker or presentation while still participating in the main virtual meeting. Therefore, the participants of the parallel virtual meeting do not have to connect via another device or application and can avoid disrupting the main virtual meeting. The parallel virtual meeting can permit two separate meetings, such as one meeting with all participants and one meeting with a subset of all the participants.

Claims (31)

1 . A system for presenting a virtual meeting having multiple participants, comprising:

a processor; a plurality of programming instructions configured to be operated by the processor to perform operations including;

establishing a main communication link for a main virtual meeting among all of the multiple participants, wherein the main virtual meeting includes a virtual room and the multiple participants include at least a first avatar and a second avatar located in the virtual room;

establishing a parallel communication link for a parallel virtual meeting between or among a subset of the multiple participants, the parallel virtual meeting occurring concurrently with the main virtual meeting;

determining an adjustment to an audio parameter of an audio signal received by a participant device during active participation of a participant in the main virtual meeting, the audio parameter based on a hearing loss attribute, wherein the adjustment is based at least in part on an angle of the first avatar relative to the second avatar within the virtual room; and

creating an adjusted audio signal based on the adjustment to the audio parameter of the audio signal and the active participation of the participant in the main virtual meeting, wherein an output is further configured to transmit the adjusted audio signal to the participant device.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the output is further configured to perform transmitting media and parallel media signals in real-time.

3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the parallel media signal includes the at least one or both of audio and visual data of the main virtual meeting.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the operations further include determining the subset of the multiple participants based on a lookup table including the subset of the multiple participants selected by one of the multiple participants.

5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein a main media signal of the main virtual meeting includes frozen video of the parallel virtual meeting.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the hearing loss attribute includes an ear designation configured to represent an ear in which the participant has hearing loss.

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the adjustment is based on a distance between the first avatar relative to the second avatar within the virtual room.

8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the audio parameter is audio volume.

9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the operations further include generating a closed captions signal including a transcription based on the audio signal.

10 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the operations further include placing the multiple participants around a virtual table within the main virtual meeting, the multiple participants being separated from adjacent participants by an equal number of degrees.

11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the operations further include introducing a new participant around a virtual table within the main virtual meeting after the main virtual meeting has started.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the operations further include adjusting a first amount of separation of adjacent participants to a second amount of separation of adjacent participants based on the introduction of the new participant.

13 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising receiving, from a user equipment (UE) associated with a participant in the main virtual meeting, at least one participant setting associated with the participant, the at least one participant setting including at least a hearing loss attribute.

14 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the parallel virtual meeting includes the ability for voice conversation among the subset of the multiple participants concurrently with output of voice data in the main virtual meeting and excludes the ability for voice conversation in the parallel virtual meeting to those not among the subset.

15 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising determining the angle based at least in part on a trigonometric function.

16 . The system of claim 15 , wherein trigonometric function includes a balance range divided by 360° and multiplied by a separation angle.

17 . A method for presenting a virtual meeting having multiple participants, comprising:

establishing a main communication link for a main virtual meeting among all of the multiple participants, wherein the main virtual meeting includes a virtual room and the multiple participants include at least a first avatar and a second avatar located in the virtual room;

establishing a parallel communication link for a parallel virtual meeting between or among a subset of the multiple participants, the parallel virtual meeting occurring concurrently with the main virtual meeting;

determining an adjustment to an audio parameter of an audio signal received by a participant device during active participation of a participant in the main virtual meeting, the audio parameter based on a hearing loss attribute, wherein the adjustment is based at least in part on a distance between the first avatar relative to the second avatar within the virtual room; and

creating an adjusted audio signal based on the adjustment to the audio parameter of the audio signal and the active participation of the participant in the main virtual meeting, wherein an output is further configured to transmit the adjusted audio signal to the participant device.

18 . The method of claim 17 , further comprising transmitting a main media signal and transmitting a parallel media signal in real-time.

19 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the parallel media signal includes the at least one or both of audio and visual data of the main virtual meeting.

20 . The method of claim 17 , further comprising determining the subset of the multiple participants based on a lookup table including the subset of the multiple participants selected by one of the multiple participants.

21 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the adjustment includes an increase in volume in response to the distance being above a minimum virtual distance.

22 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the adjustment includes a decrease in volume in response to the distance being below a minimum virtual distance.
