Abstract

An entropy decoder is configured to, for horizontal and vertical components of motion vector differences, derive a truncated unary code from the data stream using context-adaptive binary entropy decoding with exactly one context per bin position of the truncated unary code, which is common for horizontal and vertical components of the motion vector differences, and an Exp-Golomb code using a constant equi-probability bypass mode to obtain the binarizations of the motion vector differences. A desymbolizer is configured to debinarize the binarizations of the motion vector difference syntax elements to obtain integer values of the horizontal and vertical components of the motion vector differences. A reconstructor is configured to reconstruct a video based on the integer values of the horizontal and vertical components of the motion vector differences.

Claims (25)

1. A decoder for decoding a video encoded in a data stream, wherein the video is predictively decoded by motion compensated prediction using motion vectors and motion vector differences, the decoder comprising:

an entropy decoder configured to, for horizontal and vertical components of a motion vector difference,

obtain, from the data stream, a fixed-length binary code and an Exp-Golomb code, by deriving the fixed-length binary code from the data stream prior to deriving the Exp-Golomb code of the motion vector difference,

decode the fixed-length binary code using context-adaptive binary entropy decoding with one context associated with the respective fixed-length binary code, and

decode the Exp-Golomb code using a bypass mode, to obtain the horizontal and vertical components of the motion vector difference; and

a reconstructor configured to reconstruct the video based on the horizontal and vertical components of the motion vector difference.

2. The decoder according to claim 1 , wherein the entropy decoder is configured to use a different context for another fixed-length binary code.

The decoder according to claim 1 , wherein, as part of decoding the fixed-length binary code, the entropy decoder is configured to perform a probability state update by transitioning from a current probability state associated with the context selected for the fixed-length binary code being currently decoded to a new probability state depending on the fixed-length binary code being currently decoded.

The decoder according to claim 1 , wherein, as part of decoding the fixed-length binary codes, the entropy decoder is configured to quantize a current probability interval width value representing a current probability interval to acquire a probability interval index, and perform an interval subdivision by indexing a table entry among table entries using the probability interval index and a probability state index depending on a current probability state associated with the context selected for the fixed-length binary code being currently decoded, to acquire a sub-division of the current probability interval into two partial intervals.

5. The decoder according to claim 1 , wherein the data stream comprises at least a portion associated with color samples.

6. The decoder according to claim 1 , wherein the data stream comprises at least a portion associated with depth values related to a depth map.

7. An encoder for encoding a video into a data stream, comprising:

a constructor configured to predictively code the video by motion compensated prediction using motion vectors and horizontal and vertical components of motion vector differences; and

an entropy encoder configured to, for horizontal and vertical components of at least one of the motion vector differences,

encode, into the data stream, a fixed-length binary code, wherein the fixed-length binary codes is encoded using context-adaptive binary entropy encoding with one context associated with the fixed-length binary code, and

encode, into the data stream, an Exp-Golomb code using a bypass mode, wherein the fixed-length binary code is capable of being derived from the data stream prior to deriving the Exp-Golomb code of the motion vector difference.

8. The encoder according to claim 7 , wherein the entropy encoder is configured to use a different context for another fixed-length binary code.

The encoder according to claim 7 , wherein, as part of encoding the fixed-length binary code, the entropy encoder is configured to perform a probability state update by transitioning from a current probability state associated with the context selected for the fixed-length binary code being currently encoded to a new probability state depending on the fixed-length binary code being currently encoded.

The encoder according to claim 7 , wherein, as part of encoding the fixed-length binary code, the entropy encoder is configured to quantize a current probability interval width value representing a current probability interval to obtain a probability interval index, and perform an interval subdivision by indexing a table entry among tables entries using the probability interval index and a probability state index depending on a current probability state associated with the context selected for the fixed-length binary code being currently encoded, to obtain a sub-division of the current probability interval into two partial intervals.

11. The encoder according to claim 7 , wherein the data stream comprises at least a portion associated with color samples.

12. The encoder according to claim 7 , wherein the data stream comprises at least a portion associated with depth values related to a depth map.

13. A non-transitory computer-readable medium for storing data associated with a video, comprising:

a data stream stored in the non-transitory computer-readable medium, the data stream comprising encoded horizontal and vertical components of motion vector differences, wherein the video is predictively coded by motion compensated prediction using motion vectors and the motion vector differences encoded in the data stream, wherein the data stream comprises at least a portion associated with color samples,

wherein, for horizontal and vertical components of at least one of the motion vector differences, a fixed-length binary code is encoded using context-adaptive binary entropy encoding with one context associated with the respective fixed-length binary code, the context being shared by the horizontal and vertical components of the motion vector difference, and an Exp-Golomb code is encoded using a bypass mode.

14. The non-transitory computer-readable medium according to claim 13 , wherein the data stream comprises at least a portion associated with depth values related to a depth map.
