Abstract

Aspects of the present invention relate to methods and systems for the see-through computer display systems with integrated IR eye imaging technologies.

Claims (52)

1 . A wearable head device with an optical system, the optical system comprising:

lower optics; and

upper optics comprising a display panel, the display panel including:

a plurality of visible light emitters configured to project visible image light in a first direction toward the lower optics,

a plurality of infrared emitters configured to project infrared light in the first direction toward the lower optics, and

a plurality of infrared receivers configured to receive an infrared reflection from an eye of a user via the lower optics,

wherein a first region of the display panel comprises:

a first set of infrared receivers of the plurality of infrared receivers, the first set of infrared receivers having a first density; and

a first set of visible light emitters of the plurality of visible light emitters, the first set of visible light emitters having a second density,

wherein the first density of the first set of infrared receivers in the first region is inversely related to the second density of the first set of visible light emitters in the first region.

2 . The wearable head device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of visible light emitters comprises micro-LEDs to project the visible image light.

3 . The wearable head device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of visible light emitters comprises OLEDs to project the visible image light.

4 . The wearable head device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of visible light emitters comprises reflective pixels to project the visible image light.

5 . The wearable head device of claim 1 , wherein the infrared reflection is received via an iris of the eye.

6 . The wearable head device of claim 1 , wherein the infrared reflection is received via a pupil of the eye.

7 . The wearable head device of claim 1 , wherein the infrared reflection is received via a retina of the eye.

8 . The wearable head device of claim 1 , wherein the lower optics comprises:

an angled partially-reflective partially-transmissive surface configured to redirect the visible image light and the infrared light toward the eye, and further configured to redirect the infrared reflection from the eye toward the upper optics.

9 . The wearable head device of claim 1 , wherein:

a second region of the display panel includes a second set of infrared receivers of the plurality of infrared receivers, the second set of infrared receivers having a third density, different from the first density,

the first region of the display panel is configured to produce a first portion of an image having a first resolution, and

the second region of the display panel is configured to produce a second portion of the image having a second, different resolution.

10 . An optical system comprising:

optics comprising a display panel, the display panel comprising:

a plurality of visible light emitters, the plurality of visible light emitters configured to project visible image light in a first direction;

a plurality of infrared emitters, the plurality of infrared emitters configured to project infrared light in the first direction, and

a plurality of infrared receivers, the plurality of infrared receivers configured to receive an infrared reflection from an eye of a user,

wherein a first region of the display panel comprises:

a first set of infrared receivers of the plurality of infrared receivers, the first set of infrared receivers having a first density; and

a first set of visible light emitters of the plurality of visible light emitters, the first set of visible light emitters having a second density,

wherein the first density of the first set of infrared receivers in the first region is inversely related to the second density of the first set of visible light emitters in the first region.

11 . The optical system of claim 10 , wherein the plurality of visible light emitters comprises micro-LEDs to project the visible image light.

12 . The optical system of claim 10 , wherein the plurality of visible light emitters comprises OLEDs to project the visible image light.

13 . The optical system of claim 10 , wherein the plurality of visible light emitters comprises reflective pixels to project the visible image light.

14 . The optical system of claim 10 , wherein the infrared reflection is received via an iris of the eye.

15 . The optical system of claim 10 , wherein the infrared reflection is received via a pupil of the eye.

16 . The optical system of claim 10 , wherein the infrared reflection is received via a retina of the eye.

17 . The optical system of claim 10 , wherein:

a second region of the display panel includes a second set of infrared receivers of the plurality of infrared receivers, the second set of infrared receivers having a third density, different from the first density,

the first region of the display panel is configured to produce a first portion of an image having a first resolution, and

the second region of the display panel is configured to produce a second portion of the image having a second, different resolution.

18 . A method comprising:

projecting, by a display panel via a plurality of visible light emitters, visible image light toward lower optics of a wearable head device, wherein the display panel is associated with upper optics of the wearable head device;

projecting, by the display panel via a plurality of infrared emitters, infrared light toward the lower optics; and

receiving, at the display panel via a plurality of infrared receivers, an infrared reflection from an eye of a user via the lower optics,

wherein a first region of the display panel comprises:

a first set of infrared receivers of the plurality of infrared receivers, the first set of infrared receivers having a first density; and

a first set of visible light emitters of the plurality of visible light emitters, the first set of visible light emitters having a second density,

wherein the first region is based on an area of interest corresponding to a region of the eye, and
