Abstract

Non-limiting embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a method comprising: obtaining asphalt shingle waste (ASW) and performing grinding, screening, and separating steps on the ASW. In some embodiments, granules are removed from the ASW. In some embodiments, the method transforms ASW into ASW powder. In some embodiments, the ASW powder is formed into a plurality of briquettes. In some embodiments, at least one of: the ASW powder, the plurality of briquettes, or any combination thereof is fed into a mixing process that results in an ASW powder filled coating.

Claims (91)

1. A method comprising:

obtaining asphalt shingle waste (ASW),

wherein the ASW comprises:

asphalt;

limestone;

granules; and

impurities;

grinding and screening the ASW to result in ASW particles,

wherein the screening of the ASW comprises screening the ASW with a rotary screener;

removing at least a first portion of the granules from the ASW particles with at least one granule liberator;

forming the ASW particles into an ASW powder,

wherein the ASW powder comprises:

5% to 40% by weight of asphalt based on a total weight of the ASW powder,

wherein the asphalt comprises waste asphalt; and

60% to 95% by weight of limestone and impurities based on the total weight of the ASW powder.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the ASW particles has an average particle size of 425 microns or greater.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the ASW particles has an average particle size of 425 microns or 6350 microns.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the ASW powder has an average particle size of 2 microns to 425 microns.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one granule liberator comprises a first granule liberator and a second granule liberator, wherein the first granule liberator and the second granule liberator are connected in series.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one granule liberator comprises a first granule liberator and a second granule liberator, wherein the first granule liberator and the second granule liberator are connected in parallel.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising removing at least a second portion of the granules from the ASW particles with the at least one granule liberator.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one granule liberator comprises a rotary impact screener.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising forming the ASW powder into a plurality of briquettes.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the method does not comprise screening with a screening device that comprises at least one ball tray.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the method does not comprise screening with a screening device that comprises a sizing shaker.

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the ASW powder comprises:

10% to 40% by weight of the asphalt based on the total weight of ASW powder; and

60% to 90% by weight of the limestone and the impurities based on the total weight of the ASW powder.

13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the ASW powder comprises:

15% to 40% by weight of the asphalt based on the total weight of ASW powder; and

60% to 85% by weight of the limestone and the impurities based on the total weight of the ASW powder.

14. The method of claim 1 , wherein the ASW powder comprises:

20% to 40% by weight of the asphalt based on the total weight of ASW powder; and

60% to 80% by weight of the limestone and the impurities based on the total weight of the ASW powder.

15. The method of claim 1 , wherein the ASW powder comprises:

25% to 40% by weight of the asphalt based on the total weight of ASW powder; and

60% to 75% by weight of the limestone and the impurities based on the total weight of the ASW powder.

16. The method of claim 1 , wherein the ASW powder comprises:

5% to 35% by weight of the asphalt based on the total weight of ASW powder; and

65% to 95% by weight of the limestone and the impurities based on the total weight of the ASW powder.

17. A method comprising:

obtaining asphalt shingle waste (ASW),

wherein the ASW comprises:

asphalt;

limestone;

granules; and

impurities;

grinding and screening the ASW to result in ASW particles,

wherein the screening of the ASW comprises screening the ASW with a rotary screener;

collecting dust from the grinding of the ASW and the screening of the ASW;

forming the ASW particles and the collected dust into an ASW powder,

wherein the ASW powder comprises:

5% to 40% by weight of asphalt based on a total weight of the ASW powder,

wherein the asphalt comprise waste asphalt; and

60% to 95% by weight of limestone and impurities based on the total weight of the ASW powder.
