Abstract

Apparatuses, methods, and systems are disclosed for establishing a connection with a dual registered device. One method includes receiving a first request to establish an internet protocol multimedia subsystem session with a first device, wherein the first device is dual registered to: a first network access supporting 5G core network connectivity; and a second network access supporting evolved packet core network connectivity and circuit switched network connectivity, wherein the first device has connectivity to an internet protocol multimedia subsystem via either the first network access or the second network access. The method includes determining first information corresponding to a network access connectivity selected from the first network access and the second network access through which the first device has internet protocol connectivity with the internet protocol multimedia subsystem. The method includes transmitting a second request to a first network function to retrieve second information.

Claims (43)

1. A method at a first network function, the method comprising:

receiving, from a second network function, a first request message indicating a terminating access domain selection (T-ADS) request, wherein the T-ADS request comprises an identifier associated with a user equipment (UE);

determining that the UE has a fifth generation core (5GC) subscription from which the UE receives 5G subscription data;

based at least in part on the received first request message, retrieving first domain selection information from an evolved packet core network (EPC);

retrieving second domain selection information from a third network function in response to determining that the UE has the 5GC subscription; and

transmitting, to the second network function, a first response message comprising a combination of the first domain selection information retrieved from the EPC and the second domain selection information retrieved from the third network function.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first network function comprises a home subscriber server (HSS).

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein second network function comprises an application server (AS).

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the third network function comprises a unified data management (UDM), a unified data repository (UDR), or a UDR translation function (UTF), or a combination thereof.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first request message, the first response message, or both comprises a Sh message.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

transmitting, to the third network function, a second request message for the first domain selection information in response to the UE having the 5GC subscription,

wherein retrieving, from the third network function, the first domain selection information is based on the transmitted second request message.

7. The method of claim 6 , further comprising:

receiving, from the third network function, a second response message comprising the second domain selection information associated with 5G.

8. An apparatus comprising a first network function, the apparatus further comprising:

a processor; and

a memory coupled to the processor, the processor configured to cause the apparatus first network function to:

receive, from a second network function, a first request message indicating a terminating access domain selection (T-ADS) request, wherein the T-ADS request comprises an identifier associated with a user equipment (UE);

determine that the UE has a fifth generation core (5GC) subscription from which the UE receives 5G subscription data;

based at least in part on the received first request message, retrieve first domain selection information from an evolved packet core network (EPC);

retrieve second domain selection information, from a third network function in response to determining that the UE has the 5GC subscription; and

transmit, to the second network function, a first response message comprising a combination of the first domain selection information retrieved from the EPC and the second domain selection information retrieved from the third network function.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the first network function comprises a home subscriber server (HSS).

10. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein second network function comprises an application server (AS).

11. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the third network function comprises a unified data management (UDM), a unified data repository (UDR), or a UDR translation function (UTF), or a combination thereof.

12. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the first request message, the first response message, or both comprises a Sh message.

13. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the processor is configured to cause the first network function to:

transmit, to the third network function, a second request message for the first domain selection information in response to the UE having the 5GC subscription.

14. The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the processor is configured to cause the apparatus to:

receive, from the third network function, a second response message comprising the second domain selection information associated with 5G.

15. An apparatus comprising a third network function, the apparatus further comprising:

a processor; and

a memory coupled to the processor, the processor configured to cause the third network function to:

receive, from a first network function, a first message requesting terminating access domain selection (T-ADS) information for fifth generation (5G) connectivity of a user equipment (UE), wherein the 5G connectivity is associated with a 5G core (5GC) subscription of the UE for receiving subscription data;

based at least in part on receiving the first message, transmit, to a fourth network function, a second message requesting the information for the 5G connectivity of the UE;

based at least in part on transmitting the second message, receive, from the fourth network function, a third message comprising domain selection information associated with the 5GC subscription of the UE; and

based at least in part on receiving the third message, transmit, to a first network function, a fourth message comprising the domain selection information associated with the 5GC subscription of the UE.

16. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the first network function comprises a home subscriber server (HSS).

17. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the third network function comprises a unified data management (UDM), a unified data repository (UDR), or a UDR translation function (UTF), or a combination thereof.

18. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the fourth network function comprises an access and mobility management function (AMF) or a mobility management entity (MME).

19. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the third message comprises a 5G subscription.

20. The apparatus of claim 19 , wherein the processor is configured to cause the apparatus to identify the T-ADS information based on the 5G subscription.
