Abstract

An electronic device of decoding a current video block in a video picture is provided. The electronic device determines whether a partitioning scheme of the current video block is a single tree partitioning or a dual tree partitioning. The electronic device selects, based on the partitioning scheme, one derivation from candidate derivations to compute a first predictive quantization parameter (QP) for the current video block. A first derivation comprises computing the first predictive QP based at least in part on another QP and an additional value when the partitioning scheme is the single tree partitioning. A second derivation comprises computing the first predictive QP by using a previously-derived QP when the partitioning scheme is the dual tree partitioning. The electronic device computes a second QP based at least in part on the first predictive QP and an offset value, and use the second QP to decode the current video block.

Claims (27)

1. An electronic device for decoding a current video block in a video picture, the electronic device comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one storage device coupled to the at least one processor and storing one or more computer-executable instructions which, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the electronic device to:

determine whether a partitioning scheme that is used to partition the current video block is a single tree partitioning that uses one partitioning for both luma and chroma color components of the current video block or a dual tree partitioning that uses two different partitionings for the luma and chroma color components of the current video block;

based on whether the determined partitioning scheme is the single tree partitioning or the dual tree partitioning, select one of a first derivation or a second derivation from a plurality of candidate derivations to compute a first predictive quantization parameter for the current video block, wherein (i) the first derivation in the plurality of candidate derivations for computing the first predictive quantization parameter when the partitioning scheme is the single tree partitioning comprises computing the first predictive quantization parameter based at least in part on another quantization parameter and an additional value and (ii) the second derivation in the plurality of candidate derivations for computing the first predictive quantization parameter when the partitioning scheme is the dual tree partitioning comprises computing the first predictive quantization parameter by using a previously-derived quantization parameter;

compute a second quantization parameter for the current video block based at least in part on the computed first predictive quantization parameter and an offset value; and

use the computed second quantization parameter to decode the current video block.

2. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the one or more computer-executable instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, further cause the electronic device to:

perform a quantization operation on values associated with the current video block using the computed second quantization parameter.

3. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein using the computed second quantization parameter comprises performing an inverse quantization operation on values associated with the current video block using the computed second quantization parameter.

4. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein:

the first derivation is selected when the single tree partitioning scheme is identified as the partitioning scheme for the current video block and for a reference video block that is used for encoding the current video block; and

the second derivation is selected when the dual tree partitioning scheme is identified for the current video block and the single tree partitioning scheme is identified for the reference video block.

5. The electronic device of claim 4 , wherein the reference video block is a neighboring coded video block.

6. The electronic device of claim 5 , wherein the neighboring coded video block is a video block to a left side of the current video block in the video picture that includes the neighboring coded video block and the current video block.

7. The electronic device of claim 5 , wherein the neighboring coded video block is a video block above the current video block in the video picture that includes the neighboring coded video block and the current video block.

8. The electronic device of claim 4 , wherein the reference video block is a last coded video block in the video picture that includes a neighboring coded video block and the current video block.

9. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the first derivation uses at least one equation not used by the second derivation.

10. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the computed first and second quantization parameters are first and second quantization parameters for the luma color component of the current video block.

11. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the computed first and second quantization parameters are first and second quantization parameters for the chroma color component of the current video block.

12. An electronic device for encoding a current video block in a video picture, the electronic device comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one storage device coupled to the at least one processor and storing one or more computer-executable instructions which, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the electronic device to:

determine whether a partitioning scheme that is used to partition the current video block is a single tree partitioning that uses one partitioning for both luma and chroma color components of the current video block or a dual tree partitioning that uses two different partitionings for the luma and chroma color components of the current video block;

based on whether the determined partitioning scheme is the single tree partitioning or the dual tree partitioning, select one of a first derivation or a second derivation from a plurality of candidate derivations to compute a first predictive quantization parameter for the current video block, wherein (i) the first derivation in the plurality of candidate derivations for computing the first predictive quantization parameter when the partitioning scheme is the single tree partitioning comprises computing the first predictive quantization parameter based at least in part on another quantization parameter and an additional value and (ii) the second derivation in the plurality of candidate derivations for computing the first predictive quantization parameter when the partitioning scheme is the dual tree partitioning comprises computing the first predictive quantization parameter by using a previously-derived quantization parameter;
