Abstract

Intrasaccular devices and methods of implanting the devices in an aneurysm are described. The device includes an expandable body comprising a plurality of elongate filamentary elements each having a first and a second end. Each of the plurality of elongate filamentary elements extends from a first end of the device to a second end of the device and back to the first end of the device. The first and second ends of each of the plurality of elongate members are coupled at the first end of the device in a hub. The device may further include a defect spanning structure made of a mesh. The defect spanning structure may be located around a proximal portion of the expandable body, and may be disposed exteriorly to an outer surface of the expandable body

Claims (38)

1 . An intrasaccular device, comprising:

an expandable body comprising a plurality of elongate filamentary elements each having a first and a second end, wherein each of the plurality of elongate filamentary elements extend from a first end of the device to a second end of the device and back to the first end of the device; and

a hub coupling the first and second ends of each of the plurality of elongate members at the first end of the device.

2 . The intrasaccular device of claim 1 , further comprising a defect spanning structure comprising a mesh, wherein the defect spanning structure is located around a proximal portion of the expandable body, wherein the defect spanning portion is disposed exteriorly to an outer surface of the expandable body.

3 . The intrasaccular device of claim 2 , wherein the mesh is a braid of wires or filaments.

4 . The intrasaccular device of claim 2 , wherein the defect spanning structure comprises multiple layers.

5 . The intrasaccular device of claim 2 , wherein the defect spanning structure has an open second end and a substantially flattened first end.

6 . The intrasaccular device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of elongate filamentary elements form an apex at the second end of the device.

7 . The intrasaccular device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of elongate filamentary elements comprise a plurality of wires.

8 . The intrasaccular device of claim 1 , wherein the second end of the device has a bulbous configuration.

9 . The intrasaccular device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of elongate filamentary elements comprise nickel titanium alloys.

10 . The intrasaccular device of claim 2 , wherein the intrasaccular device has an expanded state, wherein the defect spanning structure has a height in the expanded state and the expandable body has a height in the expanded state, and wherein the height of the defect spanning structure extends to a longitudinal position of about 10 percent to about 60 percent of the total height of the expandable body.

11 . The intrasaccular device of claim 1 , wherein the device has a low profile radially constrained state and a relaxed expanded state.

12 . A method for treating a cerebral aneurysm having an interior cavity and a neck, comprising the steps of:

advancing an implant coupled to a pusher in a microcatheter to a region of interest in a cerebral artery, wherein the implant comprises an expandable body and a hub, wherein the expandable body comprises a plurality of elongate filamentary elements each having a first and a second end, wherein each of the plurality of elongate filamentary elements extend from a first end of the device to a second end of the device and back to the first end of the device, wherein the first and second ends of each of the plurality of elongate members are coupled at the first end of the device in the hub;

advancing the implant into the interior cavity of the cerebral aneurysm; and

deploying the implant within the cerebral aneurysm.

13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the implant further comprises a defect spanning structure comprising a mesh, wherein the defect spanning structure is located around a proximal portion of the expandable body, wherein the defect spanning portion is disposed exteriorly to an outer surface of the expandable body, wherein the defect spanning structure substantially covers an opening of the cerebral aneurysm after deployment.

14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the mesh is a braid of wires or filaments.

15 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the defect spanning structure comprises multiple layers.

16 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the defect spanning structure has an open second end and a substantially flattened first end.

17 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the plurality of elongate filamentary elements form an apex at the second end of the device.

18 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the plurality of elongate filamentary elements comprise a plurality of wires.

19 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the second end of the device has a bulbous configuration.

20 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the plurality of elongate filamentary elements comprise nickel titanium alloys.

21 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising the step of:

detaching the implant from the pusher.

22 . An intrasaccular device, comprising:

an expandable body comprising a plurality of elongate filamentary elements each having a first and a second end, wherein each of the plurality of elongate filamentary elements extend from a first end of the device to a second end of the device and back to the first end of the device, wherein the first and second ends of each of the plurality of elongate members are coupled at the first end of the device, and

a defect spanning structure comprising a mesh, wherein the defect spanning structure is located around a proximal portion of the expandable body, wherein the defect spanning portion is disposed exteriorly to an outer surface of the expandable body.

23 . The intrasaccular device of claim 22 , wherein the mesh is a braid of wires or filaments.

24 . The intrasaccular device of claim 22 , wherein the defect spanning structure comprises multiple layers.

25 . The intrasaccular device of claim 22 , wherein the defect spanning structure has an open second end and a substantially flattened first end.

26 . The intrasaccular device of claim 22 , wherein the plurality of elongate filamentary elements form an apex at the second end of the device.

27 . The intrasaccular device of claim 22 , wherein the plurality of elongate filamentary elements comprise a plurality of wires.

28 . The intrasaccular device of claim 22 , wherein the second end of the device has a bulbous configuration.

29 . The intrasaccular device of claim 22 , wherein the plurality of elongate filamentary elements comprise nickel titanium alloys.

30 . The intrasaccular device of claim 22 , wherein the intrasaccular device has an expanded state, wherein the defect spanning structure has a height in the expanded state and the expandable body has a height in the expanded state, and wherein the height of the defect spanning structure extends to a longitudinal position of about 10 percent to about 60 percent of the total height of the expandable body.
