Abstract

Systems, devices, and techniques are disclosed for administering and tracking medicine to patients and providing health management capabilities for patients and caregivers. In some aspects, a method includes receiving one or more analyte values associated with a health condition of the patient user; receiving contextual data associated with the patient user obtained by the mobile computing device, where the obtained contextual data includes information associated with a meal; determining a medicine metric value associated with an amount of medicine active in the body of the patient user; autonomously calculating a dose of the medicine without input from the user based at least on the one or more analyte values, the medicine metric value, and the information associated with a meal; and continuously displaying the calculated dose of the medicine.

Claims (45)

1. A system, comprising:

a sensor device configured to be coupled to a patient for sensing an analyte value of the patient;

an injection pen device configured to dispense medicine;

a software application installable on a mobile communication device configured to communicate with the injection pen device, the mobile communication device including:

one or more processors; and

one or more processor-readable media storing instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause performance of:

generating dose data associated with a dispensing of medicine from the injection pen device;

wirelessly transmitting the dose data from the injection pen device to the mobile communication device;

receiving, via the software application, the dose data transmitted from the injection pen device and the analyte value communicated to the mobile communication device from the sensor device;

receiving, via the software application, contextual data including information associated with food consumed by the patient;

autonomously calculating, via a dose calculator of the software application and without patient input into the autonomous calculation, a recommended dose of a medicine to be administered to the patient via the injection pen device, wherein the recommended dose of the medicine is calculated based on the dose data, the analyte value, and the contextual data;

synchronizing the autonomously calculated recommended dose of the medicine from the software application with a display of the mobile communication device; and

continuously and dynamically displaying the autonomously calculated recommended dose of the medicine on the display of the mobile communication device.

2. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the contextual data further includes at least one of physical activity data, location data, or nutrient data.

3. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more processor-readable media further store instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause performance of: determining an amount of medicine active in the patient.

4. The system according to claim 3 , wherein autonomously calculating the recommended dose of the medicine is further based on the amount of medicine active in the patient.

5. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the recommended dose of the medicine to be administered to the patient corresponds to a correction dose of the medicine for adjusting the analyte value received from the sensor device to a target analyte value.

6. A system, comprising:

an injection pen device configured to administer medicine to a patient, the injection pen device having one or more processors configured to generate dose data associated with a dispensing of the medicine from the injection pen device and to wirelessly transmit the dose data; and

a software application installable on a mobile communication device in communication with the injection pen device, the mobile communication device having one or more processors configured to receive the dose data wirelessly transmitted by the processor of the injection pen device and one or more processor-readable media storing the software application which, when executed by the one or more processors, causes performance of:

receiving, via the software application, an analyte value communicated to the mobile communication device from a sensor device coupled to the patient;

receiving, via the software application, contextual data including information associated with food consumed by the patient;

autonomously calculating, via a dose calculator of the software application and without patient input into the autonomous calculation, a recommended dose of a medicine to be administered to the patient via the injection pen device, wherein the recommended dose of the medicine is calculated based on the dose data, the analyte value, and the contextual data;

synchronizing the autonomously calculated recommended dose of the medicine from the software application with a display of the mobile communication device; and

continuously and dynamically displaying the autonomously calculated recommended dose of the medicine on the display of the mobile communication device.

7. The system according to claim 6 , wherein the software application, when executed by the one or more processors, further causes performance of: generating a user interface that displays the autonomously calculated recommended dose of the medicine.

8. The system according to claim 6 , wherein the contextual data further includes at least one of physical activity data, location data, or nutrient data.

9. The system according to claim 6 , wherein the software application, when executed by the one or more processors, further causes performance of: determining an amount of medicine active in the patient.

10. The system according to claim 9 , wherein the recommended dose of the medicine is further based on the amount of medicine active in the patient.

11. The system according to claim 6 , wherein the recommended dose of the medicine to be administered to the patient corresponds to a correction dose of the medicine for adjusting the analyte value received from the sensor device to a target analyte value.

12. The system according to claim 6 , wherein the injection pen device comprises:

a dose setting mechanism configured to set a dose of the medicine to be dispensed from the injection pen device; and

a dispensing mechanism configured to dispense the dose of the medicine.

The system according to claim 6 , wherein the injection pen device further includes one or more processor-readable media storing instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors of the injection pen device, cause performance of: communicating, to the software application, a dose of the medicine dispensed from the injection pen device and a time stamp associated with the dose of the medicine dispensed from the injection pen device.

14. One or more non-transitory processor-readable media storing instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, cause performance of:

receiving, at a software application installable on a mobile communication device, an analyte value communicated to the mobile communication device from a sensor device coupled to a patient;

generating, via a processor of an injection pen device, dose data associated with a dispensing of medicine from the injection pen device;

wirelessly transmitting the dose data from the processor of the injection pen device to the mobile communication device;

receiving, at the software application, contextual data including information associated with food consumed by the patient;

autonomously calculating, via a dose calculator of the software application and without patient input into the autonomous calculation, a recommended dose of a medicine to be administered to the patient via the injection pen device, wherein the recommended dose of the medicine is calculated based on the dose data, the analyte value, and the contextual data;

synchronizing the autonomously calculated recommended dose of the medicine from the software application with a display of the mobile communication device; and

continuously and dynamically displaying the autonomously calculated recommended dose of the medicine on the display of the mobile communication device.

The one or more non-transitory processor-readable media according to claim 14 , wherein the one or more non-transitory processor-readable media store further instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause performance of: determining an amount of medicine active in the patient, wherein autonomously calculating the recommended dose of the medicine is further based on the amount of medicine active in the patient.

The one or more non-transitory processor-readable media according to claim 14 , wherein the recommended dose of the medicine to be administered to the patient corresponds to a correction dose of the medicine for adjusting the analyte value received from the sensor device to a target analyte value.

17. The one or more non-transitory processor-readable media according to claim 14 , wherein the contextual data further includes at least one of physical activity data, location data, or nutrient data.
