Abstract

Systems and methods are disclosed herein for device selection and modified output upon receiving notifications. In one embodiment of the disclosed technique for selecting an output device for notifications, systems and methods receive an electronic notification which indicate an originator of the electronic notification. An output range is determined for each electronic device in a plurality of electronic devices. The system selects the electronic device with the smallest of determined output ranges from the plurality of electronic devices. The system determines from the indication whether the originator of the electronic notification is on a stored list of originators. If so, the system transmits the electronic notification to the selected electronic device for output.

Claims (42)

1 . A method comprising:

receiving a message in a user interface, wherein the message comprises an indication of an originator of the message;

determining an audio output level for an audio notification for each electronic device of a plurality of electronic devices;

identifying a lowest audio level based at least in part on comparing the determined audio output level for the audio notification for each respective electronic device of the plurality of electronic devices;

selecting an electronic device of the plurality of electronic devices corresponding to the identified lowest audio level;

determining from the indication whether the originator of the message is on a stored list of originators; and

based at least in part on determining the originator is on the stored list of originators, transmitting the message to the selected electronic device corresponding to the identified lowest audio level for output.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining a message output size for each electronic device in the plurality of electronic devices, wherein:

the message output size indicates a size of a display used for the message for each of the plurality of electronic devices; and

selecting the electronic device of the plurality of electronic devices is based on the determined audio output level for the audio notification and the determined message output size.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the audio output level for the audio notification corresponds to a decibel level outputted by the electronic device.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the audio output level for the audio notification for each electronic device comprises accessing a database comprising audio output levels for the audio notification for each electronic device of the plurality of electronic devices.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the audio output level for the audio notification for each electronic device comprises receiving audio output levels from each electronic device of the plurality of electronic devices.

6 . A method comprising:

receiving a message in a user interface, wherein the message comprises content;

determining an audio output level for an audio notification for each electronic device in a plurality of electronic devices;

identifying a lowest audio level based at least in part on comparing the determined audio output level for the audio notification for each respective electronic device of the plurality of electronic devices;

selecting an electronic device of the plurality of electronic devices corresponding to the identified lowest audio level;

parsing the content of the message to identify one or more words within the content;

comparing the identified one or more words to a stored list of words; and

based at least in part on determining the one or more words match at least one word from the stored list of words, transmitting the message to the selected electronic device corresponding to the identified lowest audio level for output.

7 . The method of claim 6 , further comprising determining a message output size for each electronic device in the plurality of electronic devices, wherein:

the message output size indicates a size of a display used for the message for each of the plurality of electronic devices; and

selecting the electronic device of the plurality of electronic devices is based on the determined audio output level for the audio notification and the determined message output size.

8 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the audio output level for the audio notification corresponds to a decibel level outputted by the electronic device.

9 . The method of claim 6 , wherein determining the audio output level for the audio notification for each electronic device comprises accessing a database comprising audio output levels for each electronic device of the plurality of electronic devices.

10 . The method of claim 6 , wherein determining the audio output level for the audio notification for each electronic device comprises receiving audio output levels from each electronic device of the plurality of electronic devices.

11 . A system comprising:

memory;

control circuitry configured to:

receive a message in a user interface, wherein the message comprises an indication of an originator of the message;

determine an audio output level for an audio notification for each electronic device of a plurality of electronic devices;

identify a lowest audio level based at least in part on comparing the determined audio output level for the audio notification for each respective electronic device of the plurality of electronic devices;

select an electronic device of the plurality of electronic devices corresponding to the identified lowest audio level;

determine from the indication whether the originator of the message is on a list of originators stored in the memory; and

based at least in part on determining the originator is on the list of originators stored in the memory, transmit the message to the selected electronic device corresponding to the identified lowest audio level for output.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to determine a message output size for each electronic device in the plurality of electronic devices, wherein:

the message output size indicates a size of a display used for message for each of the plurality of electronic devices; and

selecting the electronic device of the plurality of electronic devices is based on the determined audio output level for the audio notification and the determined message output size.

13 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the audio output level for the audio notification corresponds to a decibel level outputted by the electronic device.

The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to determine the audio output level for the audio notification for each electronic device by accessing a database comprising audio output levels for the audio notification for each electronic device of the plurality of electronic devices.

15 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to determine the audio output level for the audio notification for each electronic device by receiving audio output levels from each electronic device of the plurality of electronic devices.
