Breast pump system with collection container
Systems and methods for pumping milk from a breast, wherein the milk is expressed from the breast under suction and milk is expulsed from the pumping mechanism to a collection container under positive pressure.
1. A wearable, portable self-powered breast pump system sized and shaped to fit within a bra and configured for pumping milk from a breast, comprising:
a breast adapter configured to contact and form a seal with the breast;
a nipple receiving cavity connected to the breast adapter;
a pumping mechanism including a motor fixed with respect to the nipple receiving cavity and configured to pump milk from the breast; and
a milk collection container, the milk collection container configured to surround the nipple receiving cavity.
2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the breast pump system automatically senses letdown.
3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the breast pump system switches from letdown to extraction upon sensing a small volume of fluid has been collected.
4. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a non-contact pressure sensor adjacent the nipple receiving cavity.
5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the non-contact pressure sensor is used for controlling pumping cycles of the breast pump.
6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the breast pump includes a letdown phase and an extraction phase.
7. The system of claim 6 , wherein the extraction phase is for a predetermined amount of time.
8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the motor is fixed above the nipple receiving cavity.
9. The system of claim 1 , comprising two breast pumps, wherein each breast pump has left and right pump markings.
