Abstract

A system for managing electrical loads includes a plurality of branch circuits, a sensor system, and control circuitry. The sensor system is configured to measure one or more electrical parameters corresponding to the plurality of branch circuits, and transmit one or more signals to the control circuitry. The control circuitry is configured to determine respective electrical load information in each branch circuit based on the sensor system, and control the electrical load in each branch circuit using controllable elements based on the respective electrical load information. The control circuitry transmits usage information, generates displays indicative of usage information, accesses stored or referencing information to forecast electrical load, and manages electrical load in response to identified events. The control circuitry can associate each branch circuit with reference load information, and disaggregate loads on each branch circuit based on the reference load information and on the electrical load in the branch circuit.

Claims (51)

1 . A system for managing electrical loads, the system comprising:

a plurality of controllable relays electrically coupled to at least one busbar electrically coupled to a power source; and

a control system communicatively coupled to the plurality of controllable relays, the control system configured to:

identify a first set of loads to be electrically decoupled from the at least one busbar, using at least one of the plurality of controllable relays, in response to an event occurring;

identify a second set of loads to be electrically coupled to the at least one busbar, using at least one of the plurality of controllable relays, in response to the event occurring;

identify a third set of loads that to be electrically coupled to the at least one busbar, using at least one of the plurality of controllable relays, in response to the event occurring and to at least one criterion being met;

retrieve reference load information corresponding to a plurality of appliances; and

disaggregate a current measurement of a branch circuit, to which more than one appliance of the plurality of appliances are electrically coupled, based on the current measurement and the reference load information, into more than one respective currents each associated with a respective appliance, based on the reference load information, to identify loads of at least one of the first set of loads, the second set of loads, or the third set of loads.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the control system is further configured to identify the event, wherein the power source is a grid, and wherein the event corresponds to outage of the grid.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the control system is further configured to:

monitor a current corresponding to each controllable relay of the plurality of controllable relays; and

control each controllable relay based on the event.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the control system is further configured to:

identify the event; and

identify the first, the second, and the third set of loads based on the event.

5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the control system is further configured to determine an estimate of remaining time available to provide power during the event.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the control system is further configured to generate a graphical user interface on a display to provide information to a user and to receive input from the user.

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein:

the power source is a grid;

the event corresponds to a grid outage; and

the at least one criterion corresponds to a state of charge of a battery pack coupled to the at least one busbar.

8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one criterion is a classification based on user input.

9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the control system is further configured to modify the first set of loads, the second set of loads, or the third set of loads based on user input.

10 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the power source is a grid, wherein

the event corresponds to a grid outage, and wherein the control system is further configured to:

generate an estimate of remaining time of a backup battery system; and

identifying a third set of loads that to be electrically coupled to the at least one busbar, using at least one of the plurality of controllable relays, in response to the event occurring and to at least one criterion being met;

retrieving reference load information corresponding to a plurality of appliances; and

disaggregating a current measurement of a branch circuit, to which more than one appliance of the plurality of appliances are electrically coupled, based on the current measurement and the reference load information, into more than one respective currents each associated with a respective appliance, based on the reference load information, to identify loads of at least one of the first set of loads, the second set of loads, or the third set of loads.

12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the power source is a grid, wherein the control circuitry is further configured to identify the event, and wherein the event corresponds to being off-grid.
