Abstract

A lock tab washer includes a washer body, the washer body defining a first side and a second side opposite the first side, the washer body defining a hole therethrough; an edge tab extending from the first side of the washer body, the edge tab define a first section and a second section, the second section bent relative to the first section; a nut tab extending from the second side of the washer body, the nut tab bent relative to the washer body; and a wing extending from the nut tab, the wing bent relative to the nut tab.

Claims (42)

1. A lock tab washer comprising:

a washer body, the washer body defining a first side and a second side opposite the first side, the washer body defining a hole therethrough, wherein the washer body defines a relief notch formed at the second side, the relief notch defining a shoulder of the washer body;

a first edge tab extending from the first side of the washer body, the first edge tab defining a first section and a second section, the second section bent relative to the first section;

a nut tab extending from the second side of the washer body, the nut tab bent relative to the washer body at a nut tab bend line, wherein the relief notch is recessed into the washer body adjacent to the nut tab to facilitate bending the nut tab relative to the washer body; and

a wing extending from the nut tab, the wing bent relative to the nut tab; wherein:

the lock tab washer further comprises a second edge tab extending from the first side of the washer body;

a gap is defined between the first edge tab and the second edge tab;

the washer body is substantially planar;

the first section of the first edge tab is substantially planar and is substantially coplanar with the washer body;

the washer body is configured to be confronted by a nut at a first face of the lock tab washer;

the washer body and the first section of the first edge tab are configured to be confronted by a hanger at a second face of the lock tab washer; and

a convex, arcuate edge portion of the washer body extends across the gap from the first edge tab to the second edge tab.

2. The lock tab washer of claim 1 , wherein the second section of the first edge tab is substantially perpendicular to the washer body.

3. The lock tab washer of claim 1 , wherein the second edge tab is substantially parallel with the first edge tab.

4. The lock tab washer of claim 1 , wherein:

the second section of the first edge tab is bent relative to the first section of the first edge tab at a first bend line;

the second edge tab defines a third section and a fourth section;

the fourth section is bent relative to the third section at a second bend line; and

the first bend line is substantially colinear with the second bend line.

5. The lock tab washer of claim 1 , wherein:

the nut tab defines a first nut tab side edge and a second nut tab side edge opposite the first nut tab side edge;

the wing is a first wing extending from the first nut tab side edge; and

the lock tab washer further comprises a second wing extending from the second nut tab side edge, the second wing bent relative to the nut tab.

6. The lock tab washer of claim 1 , wherein the second section of the first edge tab is bent in a first direction, and the nut tab is bent in a second direction opposite the first direction.

7. The lock tab washer of claim 6 , wherein:

the second section of the first edge tab is bent about 90° relative to the first section in the first direction; and

the nut tab is bent about 90° relative to the washer body in the second direction.

8. The lock tab washer of claim 7 , wherein the wing is oriented at about 90° relative to the washer body.

9. The lock tab washer of claim 1 , wherein the relief notch is a curvilinear bend relief notch.

10. The lock tab washer of claim 9 , wherein a width of the washer body at the second side is less than the width of the washer body at the first side.

11. The lock tab washer of claim 9 , wherein:

the nut tab defines a nut tab side edge extending from the washer body;

the nut tab side edge is substantially linear; and

an edge of the relief notch transitions into the nut tab side edge.

12. The lock tab washer of claim 1 , wherein the wing is bent relative to the nut tab towards the second side of the washer body at about a 120° angle.

13. The lock tab washer of claim 1 , wherein a distal end of the first edge tab is curved.

14. The lock tab washer of claim 1 , wherein:

in an unbent configuration, the wing and the nut tab share a substantially linear edge, the substantially linear edge being distal to the washer body; and

a distal edge of the wing opposite the nut tab is curved.

15. The lock tab washer of claim 1 , wherein the lock tab washer is substantially symmetric about a longitudinal axis.

16. The lock tab washer of claim 1 , wherein:

the wing is spaced a distance from the nut tab bend line such that a portion of the nut tab extends between the nut tab bend line and the wing.
