Abstract

Methods, systems, and computer program products for automated document generation within a collaboration system. Multiple components are operatively interconnected to carry out automated document generation operations. Collaboration activity limitations are enforced over newly-generated documents. The document generation process produces newly-generated documents and other outputs that are stored in the collaboration system. Operational elements of the collaboration system are able to access the generated document and other document generation system outputs to perform content analysis. Based at least in part on results of the content analysis, characteristics of the generated document and characteristics of the corresponding document system I/O, the collaboration system assigns and/or modifies access parameters of the newly-generated document and its metadata. The access parameters control ongoing enforcement of document handling policies. The document generation process gathers information from third-party systems to produce situation- or application-specific generated documents.

Claims (34)

1. A method for handling collaboration activities in a collaboration system, the method comprising:

performing a docgen process, wherein the docgen process generates a generated document that is hosted by a collaboration system for performing, in one or more collaboration workflows, collaboration activities on the generated document;

performing, in the collaboration system, a content analysis on (i) content of the generated document and (ii) an input to and an output of the docgen process; and

based at least in part on results of the content analysis, modifying access parameters of the generated document, wherein

the access parameters are used to determine a scope of the collaboration activities that is permitted to be performed on the generated document in the one or more collaboration workflows.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein modifying the access parameters of the generated document comprises adding or removing a collaborator for the collaboration activities on the generated document.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising emitting a recommendation for a collaborator to access the generated document in at least one of the collaboration activities.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: defining, based at least in part on results of the content analysis, a range of collaboration activities that is permitted to be performed in the one or more workflows on the generated document.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: associating at least one item of metadata with the generated document, wherein the at least one item of metadata is based at least in part on results of the content analysis.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the at least one item of metadata comprises at least one of a passage marker, a range marker, a retention period, a security classification, or one or more governance policies.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the at least one item of metadata is defined when assembling the generated document for generating the generated document in the docgen process.

The method of claim 1 , wherein acts of assembling the generated document comprise one or more of accessing one or more graphical user interface (GUI) forms, accessing one or more content object templates, interrogating a user of at least one of the collaboration activities, accessing a content object deep inspection module, or accessing a third party system.

The method of claim 1 , wherein performing the content analysis on the generated document comprises at least one of determining a presence of personally identifiable information (PII), determining a security classification of a portion of the generated document, or determining a time duration of a retention period for the generated document.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein performing the content analysis on the generated document comprises comparing combinations of individual portions of the generated document prior to sharing the generated document among a plurality of collaborators.

The method of claim 1 , modifying the access parameters comprising at least one of defining a deny permission, defining a collaboration group, or defining metadata corresponding to an access restriction, wherein the deny permission, the collaboration group, and the metadata corresponding to the access restriction are not known before the generated document is finally generated in the docgen process.

A non-transitory computer readable medium having stored thereon a sequence of instructions which, when stored in memory and executed by one or more processors causes the one or more processors to perform a set of acts for handling collaboration activities in a collaboration system, the set of acts comprising:

performing a docgen process, wherein the docgen process generates a generated document that is hosted by a collaboration system for performing, in one or more collaboration workflows, collaboration activities on the generated document;

performing, in the collaboration system, content analysis on (i) content of the generated document and (ii) an input to and an output of the docgen process; and

based at least in part on results of the content analysis, modifying access parameters of the generated document, wherein

the access parameters are used to determine a scope of the collaboration activities that is permitted to be performed on the generated document in the one or more collaboration workflows.

13. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 12 , wherein modifying the access parameters of the generated document comprises adding or removing a collaborator for the collaboration activities on the generated document.

The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 12 , further comprising instructions which, when stored in memory and executed by the one or more processors causes the one or more processors to perform acts of emitting a recommendation for a collaborator to access the generated document in at least one of the collaboration activities.

The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 12 , further comprising instructions which, when stored in memory and executed by the one or more processors causes the one or more processors to perform acts of: defining, based at least in part on results of the content analysis, a range of collaboration activities that is permitted to be performed in the one or more workflows on the generated document.

The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 12 , further comprising instructions which, when stored in memory and executed by the one or more processors causes the one or more processors to perform acts of: associating at least one item of metadata with the generated document, wherein the at least one item of metadata is based at least in part on results of the content analysis.

17. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 16 , wherein the at least one item of metadata comprises at least one of a passage marker, a range marker, a retention period, a security classification, or one or more governance policies.

18. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the at least one item of metadata is defined when assembling the generated document for generating the generated document in the docgen process.

19. A system for handling collaboration activities in a collaboration system, the system comprising:

a storage medium having stored thereon a sequence of instructions; and

one or more processors that execute the sequence of instructions to cause the one or more processors to perform a set of acts, the set of acts comprising,

performing a docgen process, wherein the docgen process generates a generated document that is hosted by a collaboration system for performing, in one or more collaboration workflows, collaboration activities on the generated document;

performing, in the collaboration system, content analysis on (i) content of the generated document and (ii) an input to and an output of the docgen process; and

based at least in part on results of the content analysis, modifying access parameters of the generated document, wherein

the access parameters are used to determine a scope of the collaboration activities that is permitted to be performed on the generated document in the one or more collaboration workflows.

The system of claim 19 , wherein modifying the access parameters of the generated document comprises adding or removing a collaborator for the collaboration activities on the generated document, and the input to the docgen process includes at least one of a user specification a content object template, a graphical user interface form, a rule or conditional for the docgen process, or information pertaining to or derived from the collaboration system, or a combination thereof.
