Abstract

Systems and methods for controlling access to wireless gaming devices and networks are provided. For example, access is controlled through one or more levels of security checks, such as a hard security check instead of or in addition to a soft security check. In a hard security check, the user employs an apparatus such as a card or other physical token that can be used to access the wireless gaming device. Such an apparatus may communicate information that identifies the user to the device or may simply be used to produce a signal without which the device is locked to users. The apparatus may further emit a time varying signal to enhance security.

Claims (37)

1. A method in an electronic device, comprising:

determining, via at least one processor, whether a first signal detected within a first time period matches a first bit sequence pre-associated with the first time period;

permitting, via the at least one processor, placement of a first bet for online gaming based upon determining that the first signal matches the first bit sequence;

determining, via the at least one processor, whether a second signal detected within a second time period matches a second bit sequence pre-associated with the second time period; and

permitting, via the at least one processor, placement of a second bet for the online gaming based upon determining that the second signal matches the second bit sequence.

2. The method of claim 1 , in which the first and second signals are received from a bracelet comprising a wristband and an signal transmitter, via transmission by the signal transmitter.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the first and second signals identify an authorized user wearing the wristband to the electronic device, via matching with the first and second bit sequences at the first and second time periods, respectively.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the first and second signals are effective to identify the authorized user to the electronic device within the respective first and second time periods, and are ineffective outside the respective first and second time periods.

5. The method of claim 3 , wherein the bracelet includes two attachable ends so as to be fastened on the authorized user, and wherein the signal transmitter is powered by a circuit formed by closing the two attachable ends.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein, after a first closing of the two attachable ends, the bracelet is permanently disabled upon detecting disconnection of the two attachable ends.

7. The method of claim 2 , wherein the bracelet further includes an output unit capable of outputting at least one of a light, a haptic vibration, and a sound, and

wherein the output unit is activated so as to output one of the light, the haptic vibration, and the sound, when a battery in the bracelet falls below a predetermined charge threshold.

8. The method of claim 2 , further comprising:

based upon permitting of the first bet or the second bet, outputting, via an output unit of the electronic device, at least one of a light, a sound and a haptic vibration to indicate the first bet or the second bet is placeable.

9. The method of claim 2 , further comprising:

based upon detecting proximity of the bracelet to the electronic device, outputting, via an output unit of the electronic device, at least one of a light, a sound and a haptic vibration to indicate the proximity of the bracelet.

10. The method of claim 2 , further comprising:

based upon detecting an input to the electronic device generated by a user, outputting, via an output unit of the electronic device, at least one of a light, a sound and a haptic vibration.

11. An electronic device, comprising:

at least one processor;

a communication device for transceiving information with external devices; and

a memory storing programming instructions,

wherein the programming instructions are executable by the at least one processor to cause the electronic device to:

determine a first signal detected via the communication device within a first time period matches a first bit sequence pre-associated with the first time period,

permit placement of a first bet for online gaming based upon determining that the first signal matches the first bit sequence,

determine whether a second signal detected via the communication device within a second time period matches a second bit sequence pre-associated with the second time period, and

permit placement of a second bet for the online gaming based upon determining that the second signal matches the second bit sequence.

12. The electronic device of claim 11 , in which the first and second signals are received from a bracelet comprising a wristband and an signal transmitter, via transmission by the signal transmitter.

13. The electronic device of claim 12 , in which the first and second signals identify an authorized user wearing the wristband to the electronic device, via matching with the first and second bit sequences at the first and second time periods, respectively.

14. The electronic device of claim 13 , in which the first and second signals are effective to identify the authorized user to the electronic device within the respective first and second time periods, and are ineffective outside the respective first and second time periods.

15. The electronic device of claim 13 , in which the bracelet includes two attachable ends so as to be fastened on the authorized user, and wherein the signal transmitter is powered by a circuit formed by closing the two attachable ends.

16. The electronic device of claim 15 , in which, after a first closing of the two attachable ends, the bracelet is permanently disabled upon detecting disconnection of the two attachable ends.

17. The electronic device of claim 12 , in which the bracelet further includes an output unit capable of outputting at least one of a light, a haptic vibration, and a sound, and

in which the output unit is activated so as to output one of the light, the haptic vibration, and the sound, when a battery in the bracelet falls below a predetermined charge threshold.

18. The electronic device of claim 12 , in which based upon permitting of the first bet or the second bet, outputting, via an output unit of the electronic device, at least one of a light, a sound and a haptic vibration to indicate the first bet or the second bet is placeable.

19. The electronic device of claim 12 , further comprising an output unit, wherein the programming instructions are further executable by the at least one processor to: based upon detecting proximity of the bracelet to the electronic device, output, via an output unit of the electronic device, at least one of a light, a sound and a haptic vibration to indicate the proximity of the bracelet.

20. The electronic device of claim 12 , further comprising an output unit, wherein the programming instructions are further executable by the at least one processor to: based upon detecting an input to the electronic device generated by a user, output, via an output unit of the electronic device, at least one of a light, a sound and a haptic vibration.
