Abstract

Systems and methods for facilitating an analysis of software vulnerabilities are described. The system receives a first request to present software vulnerabilities of a virtual machine on a production machine. The system receives a first request to present software vulnerabilities of a virtual machine on a production machine. The first request includes a first selection including a virtual machine identifier identifying the virtual machine on the production machine. The software vulnerabilities include a first software vulnerability. The system presents a first electronic user interface including software vulnerabilities for the virtual machine. The system receives a second request including a second selection identifying a first software vulnerability. The system presents a second electronic user interface including presenting recovery point identifiers corresponding to snapshot images stored on a database. The snapshot images being of the production machine and including the virtual machine and the first software vulnerability.

Claims (45)

1 . A method performed by a data management system, comprising:

presenting, over a network, a first user interface including an indication of software vulnerabilities for a virtual machine;

receiving, over the network, a selection of a software vulnerability of the software vulnerabilities; and

presenting, over the network in response to the indication, a second user interface including recovery point identifiers corresponding to snapshot images for the virtual machine that include the software vulnerability.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, over the network, a request to present the software vulnerabilities for the virtual machine, wherein the first user interface is presented in response to the request.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the request includes a virtual machine identifier identifying the virtual machine on a production machine.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first user interface comprises user interface elements representing the software vulnerabilities for the virtual machine, the user interface elements comprising a user interface element representing the software vulnerability.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein receiving the selection of the software vulnerability comprises:

receiving a selection of the user interface element.

6 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the user interface elements include a histogram bar comprising a start date and an end date.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the second user interface comprises user interface elements that present the recovery point identifiers.

8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

identifying, in a database and based at least in part on receiving the selection of the software vulnerability, the snapshot images for the virtual machine that include the software vulnerability, wherein the recovery point identifiers are presented based at least in part on the identifying.

9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein identifying the snapshot images comprises:

identifying archive events that associate a virtual machine identifier for the virtual machine with a snapshot image of the snapshot images and a vulnerability identifier for the software vulnerability.

10 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, over the network, a selection of a recovery point identifier of the recovery point identifiers corresponding to a snapshot image of the snapshot images.

11 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

mounting, in response to the selection of the recovery point identifier, the snapshot image to a backup machine; and

performing, after mounting the snapshot image to the backup machine, a forensic analysis of the software vulnerability for the virtual machine.

12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the software vulnerability is associated with a patch for remediating the software vulnerability, the method further comprising:

pushing the patch to a production machine that comprises the virtual machine.

13 . An apparatus, comprising:

a processor; and

memory storing instructions that are executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to:

present, over a network, a first user interface including an indication of software vulnerabilities for a virtual machine;

receive, over the network, a selection of a software vulnerability of the software vulnerabilities; and

present, over the network in response to the indication, a second user interface including recovery point identifiers corresponding to snapshot images for the virtual machine that include the software vulnerability.

14 . The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the instructions are further executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to:

receive, over the network, a request to present the software vulnerabilities for the virtual machine, wherein the first user interface is presented in response to the request.

15 . The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the instructions are further executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to:

identify, in a database and based at least in part on receiving the selection of the software vulnerability, the snapshot images for the virtual machine that include the software vulnerability, wherein the recovery point identifiers are presented based at least in part on the identifying.

16 . The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the instructions are further executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to:

receive, over the network, a selection of a recovery point identifier of the recovery point identifiers corresponding to a snapshot image of the snapshot images.

17 . The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the software vulnerability is associated with a patch for remediating the software vulnerability, and wherein the instructions are further executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to:

push the patch to a production machine that comprises the virtual machine.

18 . A non-transitory, computer-readable medium that stores code comprising instructions that are executable by a processor of an electronic device to cause the electronic device to:

present, over a network, a first user interface including an indication of software vulnerabilities for a virtual machine;

receive, over the network, a selection of a software vulnerability of the software vulnerabilities; and

present, over the network in response to the indication, a second user interface including recovery point identifiers corresponding to snapshot images for the virtual machine that include the software vulnerability.

19 . The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the instructions are further executable by the processor to cause the electronic device to:

receive, over the network, a request to present the software vulnerabilities for the virtual machine, wherein the first user interface is presented in response to the request.

20 . The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the instructions are further executable by the processor to cause the electronic device to:

identify, in a database and based at least in part on receiving the selection of the software vulnerability, the snapshot images for the virtual machine that include the software vulnerability, wherein the recovery point identifiers are presented based at least in part on the identifying.
