Abstract

A base station system includes a base station device ( 1 ), a wireless transmission device ( 2 ) and a data transfer device ( 3 ), each of which can be installed outdoors. Enclosures ( 12, 22 and 32 ) of the devices ( 1 - 3 ) each provide a degree of protection from water and dust ingress necessary for being installed outdoors. The enclosure ( 12 ) of the base station device ( 1 ) accommodates electronic equipment ( 11 ) functioning as a base station. The enclosure ( 22 ) of the wireless transmission device ( 2 ) accommodates electronic equipment ( 21 ) functioning as a radio station to perform wireless transmission with the other device for connecting the base station device ( 1 ) to a mobile backhaul network. The enclosure ( 32 ) of the data transfer device ( 3 ) accommodates electronic equipment ( 31 ) functioning as a router or a switch to transfer data packets or data flames between the base station device ( 1 ) and the wireless transmission device ( 2 ). This eliminates the need for construction of a building/shelter to install the base station system.

Claims (19)

1. A base station node for a cellular mobile communication system comprising a mobile backhaul link, the base station node comprising:

a first wireless communication device comprising:

a first enclosure, and a first electronic circuit, disposed within the first enclosure and configured to perform first wireless communication with a plurality of mobile stations, wherein the first enclosure protects the first electronic circuit from ingress of at least one of water and dust;

a second wireless communication device comprising:

a second enclosure, and a second electronic circuit, disposed within the second enclosure and configured to perform second wireless communication with another device for the mobile backhaul link, wherein the second enclosure protects the second electronic circuit from ingress of at least one of water and dust;

a first mounting member configured to mount the first wireless communication device to a common pole;

a second mounting member configured to mount the second wireless communication device to the common pole; and

a Power over Ethernet (POE) cable configured to connect between a first connection terminal on the first enclosure of the first wireless communication device and a second connection terminal on the second enclosure of the second wireless communication device.

2. The base station node according to claim 1 wherein at least one of the first enclosure and the second enclosure provides protection at least corresponding to IP65 according to International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 60529, defined by the IEC.

3. The base station node according to claim 1 , wherein the PoE cable is configured to carry both DC power and a communication signal for the mobile backhaul link.

4. A method of a base station node for a cellular mobile communication system comprising a mobile backhaul link, the method comprising:

mounting a first wireless communication device on a common pole via a first mounting member;

mounting a second wireless communication device to the common pole via a second mounting member; and

connecting a Power over Ethernet (POE) cable between a first connection terminal on a first enclosure of the first wireless communication device and a second connection terminal on a second enclosure of the second wireless communication device;

wherein the first wireless communication device comprises the first enclosure and a first electronic circuit disposed therewithin, the first electronic circuit configured to perform first wireless communication with a plurality of mobile stations;

wherein the second wireless communication device comprises the second enclosure and a second electronic circuit disposed therewithin, the second electronic circuit configured to perform second wireless communication with another device for the mobile backhaul link; and

wherein the first enclosure and the second enclosure are configured to protect the first electronic circuit and the second electronic circuit, respectively, from ingress of at least one of water and dust.

5. The method according to claim 4 , wherein at least one of the first enclosure and the second enclosure provides protection at least corresponding to IP65 according to International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 60529, defined by the IEC.

6. The method according to claim 4 , wherein the PoE cable carries both DC power and a communication signal for the mobile backhaul link.
