Abstract

A therapeutic gas source and cart and methods thereof for use with a therapeutic gas delivery system is disclosed. The therapeutic gas source may include a cylinder operable to contain a therapeutic gas that includes a body and a gas source valve body. In some examples, the gas source valve body has a valve and a coupling member.

Claims (94)

1 . A therapeutic gas source comprising:

a cylinder operable to contain a therapeutic gas comprising:

a body; and

a gas source valve body, wherein the gas source valve body has a valve and a coupling member.

2 . The therapeutic gas source of claim 1 , wherein the coupling member is a keyway configured to removably couple to a key in a therapeutic gas delivery device.

3 . The therapeutic gas source of claim 1 , wherein the therapeutic gas comprises about 0.4% to about 0.5% NO and about 99.6% to about 99.5% N 2 .

4 . The therapeutic gas source of claim 1 , wherein the therapeutic gas has an NO concentration of about 4880 ppm and an initial pressure of about 3000 psi.

5 . The therapeutic gas source of claim 1 , wherein the cylinder provides NO accuracy at 20 degrees Celsius of plus/minus 20% or 2 ppm, whichever is greater.

6 . The therapeutic gas source of claim 1 , wherein the cylinder has an initial pressure of at least 468 psi.

7 . The therapeutic gas source of claim 1 , wherein the cylinder has a product volume of about 70 L and a useable product volume of about 54 L.

8 . The therapeutic gas source of claim 1 , wherein the cylinder has a diameter of about 70 mm to about 80 mm and a height of about 210 mm to about 220 mm.

9 . The therapeutic gas source of claim 1 , wherein the cylinder has a weight of less than about 2.2 lb.

10 . The therapeutic gas source of claim 1 , wherein the cylinder has a shelf life of at least 2 years.

11 . The therapeutic gas source of claim 1 , wherein the cylinder provides NO 2 byproduct less than or equal to 1 at a dose of 40 ppm into 60% O 2 .

12 . The therapeutic gas source of claim 1 , wherein the cylinder has a container wetted volume of about 0.4 L.

13 . The therapeutic gas source of claim 1 , wherein the body has an exterior surface.

14 . The therapeutic gas source of claim 13 , wherein the exterior surface includes at least one gas source identifier comprising QR code.

15 . The therapeutic gas source of claim 14 , wherein the QR code provides a therapeutic gas concentration, an identity of the therapeutic gas, a product code, a serial number, a lot number, and an expiration date.

16 . The therapeutic gas source of claim 15 , wherein the exterior surface contains two QR codes spaced about 30 to 60 degrees apart.

17 . The therapeutic gas source of claim 1 , wherein the therapeutic gas source is configured to deliver therapeutic gas for up to about 9 days.

18 . A therapeutic gas delivery system comprising:

at least one gas supply subsystem comprising:

a gas source coupling attached to a bay;

the gas source coupling configured to receive a coupling member of a gas source valve on a therapeutic gas source and form a fluid flow connection with the therapeutic gas delivery system;

a gas source pressure sensor adjacent to and in fluid communication with the gas source valve, wherein the gas source valve provides a gas flow path from the gas source coupling to the gas source pressure sensor, and the gas source pressure sensor is configured to measure a gas pressure at the gas source coupling, to be in communication over a communication path with a therapeutic gas delivery system controller comprising a CPU, and to communicate a pressure value over the communication path to the therapeutic gas delivery system controller;

at least one gas source identifier attached to the therapeutic gas source; and

a gas source identifier reader housed within the bay and in communication over the communication path with the therapeutic gas delivery system controller;

wherein the CPU of the therapeutic gas delivery system controller is configured to confirm one or more parameters of the therapeutic gas source.

19 . The therapeutic gas delivery system of claim 18 , wherein the coupling member is a keyway.

20 . The therapeutic gas delivery system of claim 18 , wherein the bay further comprises a tapered cove housing the gas source identifier reader and a window covering the gas source identifier reader.

21 . The therapeutic gas delivery system of claim 18 , wherein the gas source coupling is a key and a key alignment indicator.

22 . The therapeutic gas delivery system of claim 18 , wherein the bay further comprises:

a bay door; and

a gas source valve lever.

The therapeutic gas delivery system of claim 18 , wherein the gas source identifier is a QR code containing parameters of the therapeutic gas source including a therapeutic gas concentration, an identity of the therapeutic gas, a product code, a serial number, a lot number, and an expiration date.

24 . The therapeutic gas delivery system of claim 23 , wherein the gas source identifier reader is a QR code reader.

25 . The therapeutic gas delivery system of claim 24 , wherein the therapeutic gas source has a first gas source identifier and a second gas source identifier spaced about 60 degrees apart.

26 . The therapeutic gas delivery system of claim 25 , wherein the therapeutic gas delivery system comprises a first gas supply subsystem and a second gas supply subsystem.

27 . The therapeutic gas delivery system of claim 26 , wherein the gas source identifier reader of the first gas supply subsystem is operable to read the first gas source identifier.

28 . The therapeutic gas delivery system of claim 27 , wherein the gas source identifier reader of the second gas supply subsystem is operable to read the second gas source identifier.

29 . The therapeutic gas delivery system of claim 28 , wherein if the parameters of the therapeutic gas source of the first gas supply subsystem or the therapeutic gas source of the second gas supply subsystem are incorrect the therapeutic gas delivery system will not operate to deliver therapeutic gas to a patient.

30 . The therapeutic gas delivery system of claim 29 , wherein the gas source pressure sensor of the first gas supply subsystem and the gas source pressure sensor of the second gas supply subsystem are configured to measure an initial pressure of the therapeutic gas source of the first gas supply subsystem and the second gas supply subsystem.

31 . The therapeutic gas delivery system of claim 30 , wherein if the initial pressure of the therapeutic gas source of the first gas supply subsystem or the therapeutic gas source of the second gas supply subsystem is below 468 psi the therapeutic gas delivery system will not deliver therapeutic gas to a patient from the therapeutic gas source having an initial pressure below 468 psi.

32 . A cart comprising:

a base;

a stand;

one or more casters attached to the base;

a cylinder storage area housed within the stand; and

a mounting post having two device mounting hooks.

33 . The cart of claim 32 , wherein each caster has a locking mechanism operable to lock the casters in a stationary position.

34 . The cart of claim 32 , wherein the cylinder storage area is operable to store 2, 3, or 4 cylinders.

35 . The cart of claim 32 , wherein the mounting post is operable to receive a therapeutic gas delivery device on the two device mounting hooks.

36 . The cart of claim 32 , wherein the stand has an upper power cord holder and a lower power cord holder.

37 . The cart of claim 32 , wherein the cylinder storage area stores four cylinders.

38 . The cart of claim 32 , wherein the stand has a handle.

39 . The cart of claim 32 , wherein a therapeutic gas delivery system is locked on to the two device mounting hooks using a device mounting locking mechanism.

40 . The cart of claim 32 , further comprising:

an O 2 cylinder recess on the base operable to receive an O 2 cylinder;

an O 2 cylinder bracket on the stand operable to receive the O 2 cylinder; and

a strap adjacent to the O 2 cylinder bracket operable to secure the O 2 cylinder to the O 2 cylinder bracket.

41 . A method of delivering therapeutic gas to a patient, the method comprising:

inserting a first coupling member on a first gas source valve of a first therapeutic gas source into a first gas source coupling of a first bay to form a fluid flow connection with a therapeutic gas delivery system;

lowering a valve lever of the first bay;

closing a bay door of the first bay;

inserting a second coupling member on a second gas source valve of a second therapeutic gas source into a second gas source coupling of a second bay to form a fluid flow connection with a therapeutic gas delivery system;

lowering a valve lever of the second bay;

closing a bay door of the second bay;

measuring a gas source pressure from the first therapeutic gas source with a first gas source pressure sensor in communication with a therapeutic gas delivery system controller comprising a CPU;

measuring a gas source pressure from the second therapeutic gas source with a second gas source pressure sensor in communication with the therapeutic gas delivery system controller;

confirming the gas source pressure of the first therapeutic gas source and the second therapeutic gas source meet a minimum initial gas source pressure;

confirming one or more parameters of the first therapeutic gas source by reading one of two gas source identifiers attached to the first therapeutic gas source with a gas source identifier reader housed within a cove in the first bay, wherein the gas source identifier reader is in communication with the therapeutic gas delivery system controller;

confirming one or more parameters of the second therapeutic gas source by reading one of two gas source identifiers attached to the second therapeutic gas source with a gas source identifier reader housed within a cove in the second bay, wherein the gas source identifier reader is in communication with the therapeutic gas delivery system controller; and

delivering therapeutic gas to a patient from the first therapeutic gas source in fluid flow connection with the therapeutic gas delivery system and a patient breathing circuit.

42 . The method of claim 41 , wherein a shrink wrap is removed from the first gas source valve and the second gas source valve before inserting the first coupling member and second coupling member into the first gas source coupling and second gas source coupling.

43 . The method of claim 41 , wherein the minimum initial gas source pressure is about 468 psi.

44 . The method of claim 41 , further comprising:

monitoring the gas source pressure of the first therapeutic gas source with the first gas source pressure sensor; and

delivering therapeutic gas to the patient from the second therapeutic gas source when the pressure of the first therapeutic gas source is less than about 210 psi.

45 . The method of claim 44 , further comprising:

removing the first therapeutic gas source from the first bay;

inserting a third coupling member on a third gas source valve of a third therapeutic gas source into the first gas source coupling of the first bay to form a fluid flow connection with a therapeutic gas delivery system;

lowering the valve lever of the first bay;

closing the bay door of the first bay;

measuring the gas source pressure from the third therapeutic gas source with the first gas source pressure sensor in communication with the therapeutic gas delivery system controller;

confirming the gas source pressure of the third therapeutic gas source meets the minimum initial gas source pressure;

confirming one or more parameters of the third therapeutic gas source by reading one of two gas source identifiers attached to the third therapeutic gas source with the gas source identifier reader housed within the cove in the first bay, wherein the gas source identifier reader is in communication with the therapeutic gas delivery system controller;

monitoring the pressure of the second therapeutic gas source with the second gas source pressure sensor; and

delivering therapeutic gas to the patient from the third therapeutic gas source when the gas source pressure of the second therapeutic gas source is less than about 210 psi.

46 . The method of claim 45 , wherein the first therapeutic gas source is removed from the first bay by:

opening the bay door of the first bay;

raising the valve lever of the first bay; and

removing the first therapeutic gas source from the first bay.

47 . The method of claim 41 , wherein the first therapeutic gas source and the second therapeutic gas source contain a compressed therapeutic gas at a NO concentration of 4880 ppm and a pressure of 2750 psi.

48 . The method of claim 47 , wherein a run time to empty is calculated by the therapeutic gas delivery system controller based on a flow rate of therapeutic gas and a desired dose of NO.
