Abstract

Described are computer-based methods and apparatuses, including computer program products, for dynamically enabling customized web content and applications. One or more rules are stored in a database. Default tag code is transmitted to a browser in response to a request from the browser, the default tag code including data that causes the browser to generate a tag module. An update is received from the tag module comprising data indicative of a visitor's interaction with web page content displayed through the browser. A condition associated with a rule from the one or more rules is determined to be satisfied based on the update. An action associated with the rule is performed, comprising transmitting custom targeted tag code to the tag module, wherein the custom targeted tag code includes data that causes the browser, upon execution of the custom targeted tag code by the tag module, to perform an action.

2 . A computer-implemented method comprising:

transmitting default tag code associated with generating user-session data for a webpage, wherein the default tag code causes a browser to generate a tag module associated with one or more rules, and wherein the tag module generates one or more user-interface display elements on the webpage;

receiving an update from the tag module, wherein the update includes an indication of one or more user interactions with the one or more user-interface display elements;

determining an occurrence of a condition associated with the one or more rules, wherein the occurrence of the condition indicates an authorization to generate and store the user-session data; and

transmitting targeted tag code, wherein when the tag module receives the targeted tag code, the tag module executes the targeted tag code to generate and store the user-session data of the webpage.

3 . The computer-implemented method of claim 2 , wherein the webpage is provided by a first website provider, the method further comprising:

availing the user-session data for access by a second website provider, wherein the second website provider, upon accessing the user-session data, customizes another web page using the user-session data.

4 . The computer-implemented method of claim 2 , wherein the one or more rules are defined by a user device, wherein the one or more rules include rules for determining when to transmit the targeted tag code to the tag module.

The computer-implemented method of claim 2 , wherein the user-session data for the webpage is generated based on code provided by a particular web domain, and wherein one or more website providers associated with the particular web domain are authorized to access the user-session data of the webpage.

6 . The computer-implemented method of claim 2 , wherein the tag module, upon receiving the targeted tag code, executes the targeted tag code to modify security configurations associated with the user-session data.

7 . The computer-implemented method of claim 2 , wherein the user-session data for the webpage is generated and stored without modifying original code for the webpage.

8 . The computer-implemented method of claim 2 , wherein the user-session data for the webpage is configured to collect statistical data associated with one or more users that access the webpage.

9 . A system, comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing thereon instructions that, as a result of being executed by the one or more processors, cause the system to perform operations comprising:

transmitting default tag code associated with generating user-session data for a webpage, wherein the default tag code causes a browser to generate a tag module associated with one or more rules, and wherein the tag module generates one or more user-interface display elements on the webpage;

receiving an update from the tag module, wherein the update includes an indication of one or more user interactions with the one or more user-interface display elements;

determining an occurrence of a condition associated with the one or more rules, wherein the occurrence of the condition indicates an authorization to generate and store the user-session data; and

transmitting targeted tag code, wherein when the tag module receives the targeted tag code, the tag module executes the targeted tag code to generate and store the user-session data of the webpage.

10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the webpage is provided by a first website provider, and wherein the instructions further cause the system to perform operations comprising:

availing the user-session data for access by a second website provider, wherein the second website provider, upon accessing the user-session data, customizes another web page using the user-session data.

11 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the one or more rules are defined by a user device, wherein the one or more rules include rules for determining when to transmit the targeted tag code to the tag module.

12 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the user-session data for the webpage is generated based on code provided by a particular web domain, and wherein one or more website providers associated with the particular web domain are authorized to access the user-session data of the webpage.

13 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the tag module, upon receiving the targeted tag code, executes the targeted tag code to modify security configurations associated with the user-session data.

14 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the user-session data for the webpage is generated and stored without modifying original code for the webpage.

15 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the user-session data for the webpage is configured to collect statistical data associated with one or more users that access the webpage.

16 . A non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium storing thereon executable instructions that, as a result of being executed by one or more processors of a computer system, cause the computer system to perform operations comprising:

transmitting default tag code associated with generating user-session data for a webpage, wherein the default tag code causes a browser to generate a tag module associated with one or more rules, and wherein the tag module generates one or more user-interface display elements on the webpage;

receiving an update from the tag module, wherein the update includes an indication of one or more user interactions with the one or more user-interface display elements;

determining an occurrence of a condition associated with the one or more rules, wherein the occurrence of the condition indicates an authorization to generate and store the user-session data; and

transmitting targeted tag code, wherein when the tag module receives the targeted tag code, the tag module executes the targeted tag code to generate and store the user-session data of the webpage.

17 . The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the webpage is provided by a first website provider, and wherein the instructions further cause the system to perform operations comprising:

availing the user-session data for access by a second website provider, wherein the second website provider, upon accessing the user-session data, customizes another web page using the user-session data.

18 . The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the one or more rules are defined by a user device, wherein the one or more rules include rules for determining when to transmit the targeted tag code to the tag module.

The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the user-session data for the webpage is generated based on code provided by a particular web domain, and wherein one or more website providers associated with the particular web domain are authorized to access the user-session data of the webpage.

20 . The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the tag module, upon receiving the targeted tag code, executes the targeted tag code to modify security configurations associated with the user-session data.

21 . The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the user-session data for the webpage is generated and stored without modifying original code for the webpage.
