Abstract

Methods and systems disclosed herein provide drug pricing information for display on a graphical user interface (GUI). The methods and systems may receive an electronic request that includes a first set of information from an electronic device. The first set of information automatically captures user identification from a valid identification card, and includes a prescription drug and omits a second set of information corresponding to a prescription for the prescription drug. A cash price and a secondary price for variations in the prescription drug dosage are determined, and adjustments to the variation in drug dosage reduce the cash price and the secondary price. The lowest cash price and the lowest secondary price is identified for each variation in dosage of the prescription drug, and the lowest price of the prescription drug for a particular dosage is selected and displayed via the GUI executing on the electronic device.

Claims (54)

1. A server for providing drug pricing information for display on a graphical user interface (GUI) executing on an electronic device for a user, the server comprising one or more processors and one or more memories storing non-transitory computer-readable instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:

receive an electronic request from an electronic device associated with the user, wherein the electronic request includes a first set of information that automatically captures user identification from a valid identification card to identify the user, and a prescription drug and omits a second set of information corresponding to a prescription for the prescription drug;

transmit the first set of information and an overriding indicator to a database management module that is configured to interact with a database to access information for the prescription drug stored in the database, the database management module further configured to prevent access to the drug pricing information without the second set of information unless the overriding indicator is received;

determine, by bypassing transmission of the second set of information to the database management module, the drug pricing information for variations in dosage of the prescription drug, wherein the drug pricing information includes a cash price and a secondary price for the prescription drug identified in the first set of information;

adjust the variation in dosage of the prescription drug to reduce the cash price and the secondary price;

identify the lowest cash price and the lowest secondary price for each variation in dosage of the prescription drug;

select the lowest price of the prescription drug for a particular dosage;

generate, in response to the electronic request, a notification that includes the selected lowest price of the prescription drug for display via the GUI executing on the electronic device; and

transmit the notification to the electronic device via a communication network.

2. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the user identification comprises a driver's license, an insurance card, a passport, a student identification card, a health care plan identification card, and a membership card.

3. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the first set of information that identifies the user includes an identifier of a health care plan associated with the user.

4. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the secondary price comprises at least one of a co-pay price and a membership price.

5. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the secondary price comprises a price for the prescription drug that is partially covered by a health care plan.

6. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein:

the first set of information further includes a location of a pharmacy; and

the cash price, the co-pay price, and/or the membership price is based on the location of the pharmacy.

7. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the one or more processors to determine:

the lowest price of the prescription drug corresponds to the lowest dosage of the prescription drug, and

the highest price for the prescription drug corresponds to the highest dosage of the prescription drug.

8. A computer-implemented method for providing drug pricing information for display on a graphical user interface (GUI) executing on an electronic device for a user, the method comprising:

receiving, by one or more processors, an electronic request from an electronic device associated with the user, wherein the electronic request includes a first set of information that automatically captures user identification from a valid identification card to identify the user, and a prescription drug and omits a second set of information corresponding to a prescription for the prescription drug;

transmitting, by one or more processors, the first set of information and an overriding indicator to a database management module that is configured to interact with a database to access information for the prescription drug stored in the database, the database management module further configured to prevent access to the drug pricing information without the second set of information unless the overriding indicator is received;

determining, by one or more processors, by passing transmission of the second set of information to the database management module, the drug pricing information for variations in dosage of the prescription drug, wherein the drug pricing information includes a cash price and a secondary price for the prescription drug identified in the first set of information;

adjusting, by one or more processors, the variation in dosage of the prescription drug to reduce the cash price and the secondary price;

identifying, by one or more processors, the lowest cash price and the lowest secondary price for each variation in dosage of the prescription drug;

selecting, by one or more processors, the lowest price of the prescription drug for a particular dosage;

generating, by one or more processors, in response to the electronic request, a notification that includes the selected lowest price of the prescription drug for display via the GUI executing on the electronic device; and

transmitting, by one or more processors, the notification to the electronic device via a communication network.

9. The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , wherein user identification comprises a driver's license, an insurance card, a passport, a student identification card, a health care plan identification card, and a membership card.

10. The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , wherein the first set of information that identifies the user includes an identifier of a health care plan associated with the user.

11. The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , wherein the secondary price comprises at least one of a co-pay price and a membership price.

12. The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , wherein the secondary price comprises a price for the prescription drug that is partially covered by a health care plan.

13. The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , wherein:

the first set of information further includes a location of a pharmacy; and

the cash price, the co-pay price, and/or the membership price is based on the location of the pharmacy.

14. The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the one or more processors to determine:

the lowest price of the prescription drug corresponds to the lowest dosage of the prescription drug, and

the highest price for the prescription drug corresponds to the highest dosage of the prescription drug.

A non-transitory, tangible computer-readable medium storing machine readable instructions to provide drug pricing information for display on a graphical user interface (GUI) executing on an electronic device for a user that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:

receive an electronic request from an electronic device associated with the user, wherein the electronic request includes a first set of information that automatically captures user identification from a valid identification card to identify the user, and a prescription drug and omits a second set of information corresponding to a prescription for the prescription drug;

transmit the first set of information and an overriding indicator to a database management module that is configured to interact with a database to access information for the prescription drug stored in the database, the database management module further configured to prevent access to the drug pricing information without the second set of information unless the overriding indicator is received;

determine, by bypassing transmission of the second set of information to the database management module, the drug pricing information for variations in dosage of the prescription drug, wherein the drug pricing information includes a cash price and a secondary price for the prescription drug identified in the first set of information;

adjust the variation in dosage of the prescription drug to reduce the cash price and the secondary price;

identify the lowest cash price and the lowest secondary price for each variation in dosage of the prescription drug;

select the lowest price of the prescription drug for a particular dosage;

generate, in response to the electronic request, a notification that includes the selected lowest price of the prescription drug for display via the GUI executing on the electronic device; and

transmit the notification to the electronic device via a communication network.

16. The non-transitory, tangible computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein user identification comprises a driver's license, an insurance card, a passport, a student identification card, a health care plan card, and a membership card.

17. The non-transitory, tangible computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the first set of information that identifies the user includes an identifier of a health care plan associated with the user.

18. The non-transitory, tangible computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the secondary price comprises at least one of a co-pay price and a membership price.

19. The non-transitory, tangible computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the secondary price comprises a price for the prescription drug that is partially covered by a health care plan.

20. The non-transitory, tangible computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the one or more processors to determine:

the lowest price of the prescription drug corresponds to the lowest dosage of the prescription drug, and

the highest price for the prescription drug corresponds to the highest dosage of the prescription drug.
