Abstract

A heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) control system. The HVAC control system includes a sensor that detects a refrigerant released from an HVAC system and emits a signal indicative of the detection. The HVAC control system also includes a switch that blocks a flow of electricity to an enclosed space and a controller that receives the signal from the sensor and activates the switch to block the flow of electricity in response to detection of the refrigerant.

2. The HVAC system of claim 1 , wherein:

the first control action corresponds to disabling a first electrical component disposed in the first location; and

the second control action corresponds to disabling a second electrical component disposed in the second location.

3. The HVAC system of claim 1 , wherein:

the first control action corresponds to blocking a first flow of fuel to a first component in the first location; and

the second control action corresponds to blocking a second flow of fuel to a second component in the second location.

4. The HVAC system of claim 1 , wherein the first control action corresponds to disabling an electrical component disposed in the first location or a flow of electricity to the electrical component.

5. The HVAC system of claim 4 , wherein the second control action corresponds to disabling a fuel consuming component disposed in the second location.

6. The HVAC system of claim 1 , wherein the first control action corresponds to disabling a fuel consuming component disposed in the first location or.

7. The HVAC system of claim 1 , comprising a fuel valve, wherein the first control action corresponds to closing the fuel valve.

8. The HVAC system of claim 1 , comprising an electrical switch, wherein the first control action corresponds to actuating the electrical switch.

9. The HVAC system of claim 1 , wherein the sensor assembly comprises:

a first sensor corresponding to the first location; and

a second sensor corresponding to the second location.

10. The HVAC system of claim 1 , wherein the sensor assembly comprises:

a first sensor disposed in a duct of the HVAC system, an indoor unit of the HVAC system, or an outdoor unit of the HVAC system, wherein the duct, the indoor unit, or the outdoor unit corresponds to the first location; and

a second sensor disposed in a conditioned space corresponding the second location.

11. The HVAC system of claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to:

determine, based on the sensor data, whether a concentration of the refrigerant corresponding to the refrigerant leak exceeds a threshold concentration;

in response to determining that the concentration exceeds the threshold concentration, automatically perform the first control action or the second control action; and

in response to determining that the concentration does not exceed the threshold concentration:

transmit an alert to an electronic device; and

perform the first control action or the second control action in response to receiving a response signal from the electronic device.

12. One or more tangible, non-transitory, computer-readable media storing instructions thereon that, when executed by one or more processors, are configured to cause the one or more processors to:

receive sensor data from a sensor assembly configured to detect a refrigerant leaked from a refrigerant circuit of a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system;

determine, based on the sensor data, a location of a refrigerant leak corresponding to the refrigerant circuit;

perform a first control action in response to the location corresponding to a first reference location; and

perform a second control action different than the first control action in response to the location corresponding to a second reference location different than the first reference location.

13. The one or more tangible, non-transitory, computer-readable media of claim 12 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, are configured to cause the one or more processors to perform the first control action by blocking a flow of fuel to a fuel consuming component.

14. The one or more tangible, non-transitory, computer-readable media of claim 12 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, are configured to cause the one or more processors to perform the first control action by blocking a flow of electricity to an electrical component.

15. The one or more tangible, non-transitory, computer-readable media of claim 12 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, are configured to cause the one or more processors to:

determine, based on the sensor data, whether a concentration of the refrigerant corresponding to the refrigerant leak exceeds a threshold concentration;

in response to determining that the concentration exceeds the threshold concentration, automatically perform the first control action or the second control action; and

in response to determining that the concentration does not exceed the threshold concentration:

transmit an alert to an electronic device; and

perform the first control action or the second control action in response to receiving a response signal from the electronic device.

16. A heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system, comprising:

a sensor assembly configured to detect a refrigerant leak in a refrigerant circuit of the HVAC system; and

a controller configured to:

receive sensor data from the sensor assembly;

determine, based on the sensor data, whether a concentration of refrigerant corresponding to the refrigerant leak exceeds a threshold concentration;

in response to determining that the concentration exceeds the threshold concentration, perform a first control action; and

in response to determining that the concentration does not exceed the threshold concentration, perform a second control action.

17. The HVAC system of claim 16 , wherein the second control action includes transmitting an alert to an electronic device.

18. The HVAC system of claim 17 , wherein the second control action includes:

receiving a response signal from the electronic device; and
