Abstract

Containers are provided for use with a beverage dispensing device. The container can include a housing defining a hollow interior and having an inlet leading to the hollow interior therein, an outlet disposed on the housing and leading to the hollow interior, a tube extending from the inlet and through the hollow interior toward a wall of the housing opposite the inlet, and a valve disposed in the outlet.

Claims (19)

1. An additive container, comprising:

a housing defining a hollow interior configured to retain a fluid therein, the housing having an inlet leading to the hollow interior and an outlet leading to the hollow interior, the inlet and the outlet being spaced apart from one another;

an elongate tube disposed within the housing and having a first end fluidly coupled to the inlet and a second end defining an opening, the second end being positioned at an opposite end of the housing from the first end, and the second end being configured to extend above a level of fluid in the housing to allow gas to flow through the tube and into the housing; and

a valve disposed in the outlet and movable between a closed configuration in which fluid is prevented from flowing therethrough, and an open configuration in which fluid within the hollow interior can flow therethrough, the valve being configure to move from the closed position to the open position in response to a pressure increase in the hollow interior resulting from delivery of gas into the hollow interior through the tube.

2. The additive container of claim 1 , wherein the inlet includes a collar extending therearound and projecting from the housing.

3. The additive container of claim 1 , wherein the inlet and outlet are positioned in a first end of the housing and the second end of the tube is positioned adjacent a second end of the housing opposite the first end.

4. The additive container of claim 1 , wherein the second end of the tube is configured to be positioned above a level of fluid in the housing is oriented such that the inlet and outlet are positioned below the tube.

5. The additive container of claim 1 , wherein the housing comprises a body defining the hollow interior and a cap disposed over an opening in the body leading to the hollow interior.

6. The additive container of claim 5 , wherein inlet and outlet are in the cap.

7. The additive container of claim 1 , wherein the inlet and the outlet each have a central longitudinal axis extending parallel to one another.

8. An additive container, comprising:

a housing defining a hollow interior, the housing having a top, a bottom, and at least one sidewall extending between the top and bottom;

an inlet positioned in the bottom of the housing, the inlet having a tube extending therefrom into the hollow interior toward the top of the housing, the tube having an open end adjacent the top of the housing, and the tube being configured to allow a gas to be passed into the inlet and through the tube for delivery into the hollow interior; and

an outlet positioned in the bottom of the housing, the outlet having a valve disposed therein, the valve being configured to move from a closed position to an open position in response to a pressure increase in the hollow interior.

9. The additive container of claim 8 , wherein the housing comprises a body and a cap coupled to the body, the cap having the inlet and outlet therein.

10. The additive container of claim 9 , wherein the body is rigid and non-deformable.

11. The additive container of claim 8 , wherein the inlet includes a collar disposed therearound and projecting from the housing.

12. The additive container of claim 8 , wherein the outlet valve comprises a slit valve.

13. The additive container of claim 8 , wherein the inlet and outlet are spaced a distance apart.
