Abstract

A valve arrangement establishes passage from a dedicated beverage product flow path to the valve arrangement to a dedicated beverage product flow path from the valve arrangement. The valve arrangement further establishes passage into the valve arrangement of a user selectable one of a plurality of diluent flow paths, while blocking passage into the valve arrangement of each of the plurality of diluent flow paths other than the one of the plurality of diluent flow paths. The valve arrangement still further establishes passage from the one of the plurality of diluent flow paths to the fixed diluent flow path from the valve body. The valve arrangement establishes passage into the valve arrangement of a user selectable one of the plurality of diluent flow paths functionally independent of establishing passage to the fixed diluent flow path of the one of the plurality of diluent flow paths.

Claims (25)

1. A valve arrangement for selectively establishing beverage fluid flow, said valve arrangement comprising:

a valve unit including a selector valve and flow control valve substantially contained within a valve body;

a dedicated beverage product flow path to said valve body and a dedicated beverage product flow path from said valve body;

a plurality of diluent flow paths to said valve body and a fixed diluent flow path from said valve body;

said selector valve being adapted to:

establish passage into said valve body of a user selectable one of said plurality of diluent flow paths, and

block passage into said valve body of each said plurality of diluent flow paths other than said one of said plurality of diluent flow paths;

said flow control valve being adapted to:

establish passage from said one of said plurality of diluent flow paths to said fixed diluent flow path from said valve body, and

establish passage from said dedicated beverage product flow path to said valve body to said dedicated beverage product flow path from said valve body; and

wherein said selector valve establishes passage into said valve body of a user selectable one of said plurality of diluent flow paths functionally independent of said flow control valve establishing passage to said fixed diluent flow path of said one of said plurality of diluent flow paths and passage from said dedicated beverage product flow path to said valve body to said dedicated beverage product flow path from said valve body.

2. The valve arrangement as recited in claim 1 , wherein said selector valve implements a gate valve adapted to establish passage into said valve body of a user selectable one of said plurality of diluent flow paths and block passage into said valve body of each said plurality of diluent flow paths other than said one of said plurality of diluent flow paths.

3. The valve arrangement as recited in claim 2 , wherein said gate valve includes a cylindrical valve gate.

4. The valve arrangement as recited in claim 3 , wherein said gate valve is rotationally operated.

5. The valve arrangement as recited in claim 2 , wherein said flow control valve implements a poppet-type valve adapted to establish passage from said one of said plurality of diluent flow paths to said fixed diluent flow path from said valve body.

6. The valve arrangement as recited in claim 2 , wherein said flow control valve implements a poppet-type valve adapted to establish passage from said dedicated beverage product flow path to said valve body to said dedicated beverage product flow path from said valve body.

7. The valve arrangement as recited in claim 6 , wherein said gate valve includes a cylindrical valve gate.

8. The valve arrangement as recited in claim 7 , wherein said gate valve is rotationally operated.

9. The valve arrangement as recited in claim 2 , wherein said flow control valve implements a linked set of poppet-type valves adapted to concurrently establish passage from said one of said plurality of diluent flow paths to said fixed diluent flow path from said valve body and to establish passage from said dedicated beverage product beverage product flow path to said valve body to said dedicated beverage product flow path from said valve body.

10. The valve arrangement as recited in claim 9 , wherein said gate valve includes a cylindrical valve gate.

11. The valve arrangement as recited in claim 10 , wherein said gate valve is rotationally operated.

12. The valve arrangement as recited in claim 1 , wherein said flow control valve implements a poppet-type valve adapted to establish passage from said one of said plurality of diluent flow paths to said fixed diluent flow path from said valve body.

13. The valve arrangement as recited in claim 1 , wherein said flow control valve implements a poppet-type valve adapted to establish passage from said dedicated beverage product flow path to said valve body to said dedicated beverage product flow path from said valve body.

14. The valve arrangement as recited in claim 1 , wherein said flow control valve implements a linked set of poppet-type valves adapted to concurrently establish passage from said one of said plurality of diluent flow paths to said fixed diluent flow path from said valve body and to establish passage from said dedicated beverage product flow path to said valve body to said dedicated beverage product flow path from said valve body.

15. The valve arrangement as recited in claim 1 , wherein the valve unit is substantially contained within a hand-held beverage dispenser.
