Abstract

System and methods are described to determining a recommendation for a user based on changes in objects detected on a network-connected surface. The system receives, from the network-connected surface, a plurality of object identifiers for a plurality of physically inanimate objects of different types detected on the network-connected surface, wherein the object identifiers indicate a positioning of each object; determines, based on the object identifiers, a first arrangement of the plurality of physically inanimate objects; detects one or more changes in the plurality of object identifiers, wherein the one or more changes correspond to one or more changes in positioning from the first arrangement; in response to detecting the one or more changes, determines a second arrangement of the plurality of physically inanimate objects; and generates a content recommendation based on the second arrangement.

Claims (49)

1. A method comprising:

receiving from a network-connected space an inanimate object orientation associated with an inanimate object and a display device orientation associated with a display device;

determining whether the inanimate object faces the display device based on the inanimate object orientation and the display device orientation; and

generating for output a content recommendation on the display device based on the determination of whether the inanimate object faces the display device.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the determining whether the inanimate object faces the display device based on the inanimate object orientation and the display device orientation comprises:

determining whether the inanimate object has a front face; and

determining whether the front face of the inanimate object faces a front face of the display device.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the determining whether the inanimate object faces the display device based on the inanimate object orientation and the display device orientation comprises:

comparing an angle of a front face of the inanimate object relative to an angle of a front face of the display device.

4. The method of claim 3 , determining that the inanimate object faces the display device when the angle of the front face of the inanimate object relative to the angle of the front face of the display device satisfies a threshold condition.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the threshold condition is when the angle of the front face of the inanimate object relative to the angle of the front face of the display device is at least one of less than or equal to a threshold angle, not greater than the threshold angle, less than the threshold angle, or not greater than or equal to the threshold angle.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the inanimate object includes a plurality of inanimate objects, and the method comprises:

determining a number and/or a type of the plurality of inanimate objects; and

wherein the generating for output the content recommendation on the display device is further based on the number and/or the type of the plurality of inanimate objects.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the determining whether the inanimate object faces the display device based on the inanimate object orientation and the display device orientation comprises:

comparing a facing direction of the inanimate object relative to a baseline direction.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the inanimate object includes a plurality of inanimate objects, and the method comprises:

identifying each of the plurality of inanimate objects as a type suitable for human seating or a type not suitable for human seating; and

excluding information associated with the type not suitable for human seating.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the inanimate object includes a plurality of inanimate objects, and the method comprises:

storing a layout of the plurality of inanimate objects; and

associating the layout with a media attribute of a content item associated with the content recommendation.

10. The method of claim 9 , comprising:

in response to detecting a change in the layout, updating the content recommendation based on the change.

11. A system comprising:

circuitry configured to:

receive from a network-connected space an inanimate object orientation associated with an inanimate object and a display device orientation associated with a display device;

determine whether the inanimate object faces the display device based on the inanimate object orientation and the display device orientation; and

generate for output a content recommendation on the display device based on the determination of whether the inanimate object faces the display device.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the determining whether the inanimate object faces the display device based on the inanimate object orientation and the display device orientation comprises:

determining whether the inanimate object has a front face; and

determining whether the front face of the inanimate object faces a front face of the display device.

13. The system of claim 11 , wherein the determining whether the inanimate object faces the display device based on the inanimate object orientation and the display device orientation comprises:

comparing an angle of a front face of the inanimate object relative to an angle of a front face of the display device.

14. The system of claim 13 , determining that the inanimate object faces the display device when the angle of the front face of the inanimate object relative to the angle of the front face of the display device satisfies a threshold condition.

15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the threshold condition is when the angle of the front face of the inanimate object relative to the angle of the front face of the display device is at least one of less than or equal to a threshold angle, not greater than the threshold angle, less than the threshold angle, or not greater than or equal to the threshold angle.

16. The system of claim 11 , wherein the inanimate object includes a plurality of inanimate objects, and the system comprises:

determining a number and/or a type of the plurality of inanimate objects; and

wherein the generating for output the content recommendation on the display device is further based on the number and/or the type of the plurality of inanimate objects.

17. The system of claim 11 , wherein the determining whether the inanimate object faces the display device based on the inanimate object orientation and the display device orientation comprises:

comparing a facing direction of the inanimate object relative to a baseline direction.

18. The system of claim 11 , wherein the inanimate object includes a plurality of inanimate objects, and the system comprises:

identifying each of the plurality of inanimate objects as a type suitable for human seating or a type not suitable for human seating; and

excluding information associated with the type not suitable for human seating.

19. The system of claim 11 , wherein the inanimate object includes a plurality of inanimate objects, and the system comprises:

storing a layout of the plurality of inanimate objects; and

associating the layout with a media attribute of a content item associated with the content recommendation.

20. The system of claim 19 , comprising:

in response to detecting a change in the layout, updating the content recommendation based on the change.
