Abstract

An air compressor system includes a compressor having an intake end and a discharge end, the compressor operable to draw in atmospheric air at the intake end and to discharge a flow of compressed air from the discharge end, the flow of compressed air including a flow of entrained water vapor and oil, a separator operable to remove a portion of the entrained water vapor and oil from the flow of compressed air, the separator discharging a flow of dry compressed air and a flow of effluent, the effluent including at least the separated water vapor and the oil, and an electric heater configured to receive the effluent from the separator and to vaporize the effluent.

Claims (28)

1. An air compressor system comprising:

a compressor having an intake end and a discharge end, the compressor operable to draw in atmospheric air at the intake end and to discharge a flow of compressed air from the discharge end, the flow of compressed air including a flow of entrained effluent, the entrained effluent includes at least a lubricant;

a plurality of filters operable to remove at least a portion of the entrained effluent from the flow of compressed air, the plurality of filters discharging a flow of dry compressed air and a flow of removed effluent; and

an electric heater configured to receive the removed effluent from the plurality of filters and vaporize the effluent.

2. The air compressor system of claim 1 , wherein the system comprises an aftercooler coupled to the discharge end of the compressor and an intake end of one of the plurality of filters, the aftercooler operable to cool the compressed air stream and effluent to condense a portion of the effluent.

3. The air compressor system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the plurality of filters comprises a moisture separator configured to remove the portion of the effluent from the compressed air flow and direct the portion of effluent to the electric heater.

4. The air compressor system of claim 1 , wherein the electric heater directs vaporized effluent to atmosphere through an outlet of the electric heater.

5. The air compressor system of claim 1 , wherein the system includes a controller in operable communication with the compressor.

6. The air compressor system of claim 1 , wherein the entrained effluent includes at least water vapor.

7. An air compressor system comprising:

a compressor having an intake end and a discharge end, the compressor operable to draw in atmospheric air at the intake end and to discharge a flow of compressed air from the discharge end, the flow of compressed air including a flow of entrained water vapor and entrained lubricant;

a filter operable to remove at least a portion of the entrained water vapor and at least a portion of the entrained lubricant from the flow of compressed air, the filter discharging a flow of dry compressed air and a flow of effluent, the effluent including at least the separated water vapor and the separated lubricant; and

an electric heater configured to vaporize the effluent.

8. The air compressor system of claim 7 , wherein the system includes an aftercooler coupled to the discharge end of the compressor and an intake end of the filter, the aftercooler operable to cool the compressed air and effluent to condense a portion of the effluent.

9. The air compressor system of claim 7 , wherein vaporized effluent is directed to atmosphere through a discharge of the electric heater.

10. The air compressor system of claim 7 , wherein the electric heater is configured to heat the effluent to a temperature that at least the separated water vapor and the separated lubricant vaporize.

11. The air compressor system of claim 7 , wherein the filter includes a moisture separator configured to remove the portion of the entrained water vapor and separated lubricant from the flow of compressed air and direct the portion of effluent to the electric heater.

12. The air compressor system of claim 11 , wherein the filter comprises a first filter, and further comprising a second filter configured to remove a second portion of entrained water vapor and a second portion of entrained lubricant from the compressed air flow as a second portion of effluent, wherein the second portion of effluent is directed to the electric heater.

13. An air compressor system comprising:

a compressor operable to draw in atmospheric air at an intake end and discharge a flow of compressed air from a discharge end, the flow of compressed air including an entrained effluent;

a first filter operable to remove a portion of the entrained effluent from the flow of compressed air, the first filter configured to discharge a flow of dry compressed air and a flow of the removed effluent;

a second filter configured to remove a second portion of the entrained effluent from the flow of compressed air, the second filter configured to discharge the second portion of the removed effluent; and

a heater configured to vaporize the removed effluent and the second portion of the removed effluent.

14. The air compressor system of claim 13 , wherein the entrained effluent includes water vapor.

15. The air compressor system of claim 14 , wherein the entrained effluent includes lubricant.

16. The air compressor system of claim 13 , wherein the system includes an aftercooler operably connected to the discharge end of the compressor, the aftercooler configured to cool the compressed air and entrained effluent to condense a portion of the effluent.

17. The air compressor system of claim 16 , wherein the first filter is operably connected to the aftercooler, the aftercooler is configured to discharge the cooled compressed air and condensed portion of the effluent to the first filter.

18. The air compressor system of claim 13 , wherein the heater directs vaporized effluent to atmosphere through an outlet of the heater.
