COMBINING MEASUREMENTS BASED ON BEACON DATA
Methods and systems for determining usage are described. Initially, site-centric data and panel-centric data are accessed and pre-processed. Initial usage measurement data is determined based on the pre-processed site-centric data. One or more adjustment factors are determined based on the pre-processed panel-centric data. The one or more adjustment factors are applied to the initial usage measurement data to generate an adjusted usage measurement data. Reports based on the adjusted usage measurement data are generated.
1 . A method, comprising:
accessing, by a reporting server, panel-centric data;
determining, based on the panel-centric data, client systems that accessed content of an entity;
determining, based on the panel-centric data, users that accessed the content of the entity;
determining, based on the client systems that accessed the content of the entity and the users that accessed the content of the entity, a client system-to-user ratio;
determining, based on the client system-to-user ratio, expected reach based on a projected number of users that accessed the content of the entity and a number of accesses of the content of the entity;
determining incremental reach of client systems not included in the panel-centric data based on additional client systems not included in the panel-centric data and the number of accesses of the content of the entity; and
determining a machine overlap adjustment factor by taking the ratio of the expected reach to the sum of the expected reach and the incremental reach.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the client systems that accessed content of the entity comprises determining the client systems that accessed content of the entity during a time period.
3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the time period is a day, a month, or a year.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the client systems that accessed content of the entity comprises determining the client systems that accessed content of the entity in a geographic region.
5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining, by the reporting server, a number of unique accesses to the content of the entity based on the machine overlap adjustment factor.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein accessing the panel-centric data comprises receiving the panel-centric data from client systems executing panelist software configured to monitor access events on the client systems.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the expected reach is based on a projected percentage of users that accessed the content of the entity and the number of accesses of the content of the entity.
8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the projected percentage of users that accessed the content of the entity is determined by:
determining the projected number of users that accessed the content of the entity based on the client system-to-user ratio; and
dividing the projected number of users that accessed the content of the entity by the total number of users.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the number of accesses of the content of the entity comprises an average number of accesses of the content of the entity over a time period.
10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the average number of accesses of the content of the entity over the time period is determined by:
determining the total number of accesses of the content of the entity over a number of consecutive time periods; and
dividing the total number of accesses of the content of the entity over the number of consecutive time periods by the number of consecutive time periods.
11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the client systems that accessed the content of the entity comprises determining one or more unique identifiers of the client systems based on at least one of a persistent cookie or a non-persistent cookie.
12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the client systems that accessed the content of the entity comprises determining one or more unique identifiers of the client systems based on at least one of a persistent IP address and a non-persistent IP address.
13 . A method, comprising:
accessing, by a reporting server, panel-centric data;
determining, based on the panel-centric data, client systems that accessed content of an entity;
determining, based on the panel-centric data, users that accessed the content of the entity;
determining, based on the client systems that accessed the content of the entity and the users that accessed the content of the entity, a client system-to-user ratio;
determining a frequency of accesses to the content of the entity per user;
determining incremental reach of client systems not included in the panel-centric data based on additional client systems not included in the panel-centric data and the number of accesses of the content of the entity; and
determining a machine overlap adjustment factor based on the client system-to-user ratio, the frequency of accesses to the content of the entity per user, and the incremental reach.
14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein determining the client systems that accessed content of the entity comprises determining the client systems that accessed content of the entity during a time period.
15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the time period is a day, a month, or a year.
16 . The method of claim 13 , wherein determining the client systems that accessed content of the entity comprises determining the client systems that accessed content of the entity in a geographic region.
17 . The method of claim 13 , further comprising determining, by the reporting server, a number of unique accesses to the content of the entity based on the machine overlap adjustment factor.
18 . The method of claim 13 , wherein accessing the panel-centric data comprises receiving the panel-centric data from client systems executing panelist software configured to monitor access events on the client systems.
