Abstract

In variants, an automatically-identifiable temperature probe can include: a probe body, one or more sensors, a connector, and/or any other suitable components. In variants, the method for temperature determination can include: determining a set of electrical signals, determining a temperature probe type based on the set of electrical signals, determining a sensor resolution model based on the temperature probe type, and determining a set of final temperature estimates based on the set of electrical signals and the sensor resolution model.

Claims (36)

1. A system comprising:

a temperature probe having a probe type, the temperature probe comprising:

one or more sensors; and

a probe connector comprising one or more conductors connected to the one or more sensors and configured to output one or more sensor signals according to a spatial ground-signal conductor pattern specific to the probe type; and

a cooking appliance comprising:

a processing system configured to determine the probe type, wherein the probe type is determined to be a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistor when a sensor signal is detected at a tip conductor of the one or more conductors; and

a memory configured to store one or more temperature estimates.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the cooking appliance is further configured to determine, based on the one or more sensor signals and using a temperature model associated with the determined probe type, the one or more temperature estimates.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the one or more temperature estimates is determined by:

determining a set of resistance signal values based on the one or more sensor signals; and

converting the set of resistance signal values to the one or more temperature estimates using the temperature model.

4. The system of claim 2 , wherein the cooking appliance is further configured to determine, based on an average of the one or more temperature estimates, a final temperature estimate.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein each sensor signal, of the one or more sensor signals, is output from a different conductor of the one or more conductors.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more conductors comprises a ring, wherein the temperature probe type is determined to be a 2-sensor NTC thermistor when the one or more signals are output by the tip and the ring.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more conductors comprises two rings, wherein the temperature probe type is determined to be a 3-sensor NTC thermistor when the one or more sensor signals are output by the tip and the two rings.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the cooking appliance further comprises a processing system configured to calibrate the temperature probe, wherein calibrating the temperature probe comprises storing a sensor signal in association with a reference temperature.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the cooking appliance further comprises a connector configured to receive the probe connector.

10. The system of claim 8 , wherein the cooking appliance further comprises a display configured to display information from the temperature probe.

11. A method comprising:

receiving, by a cooking appliance, one or more sensor signals according

to a ground-signal conductor pattern from a temperature probe, wherein the temperature probe comprises one or more sensors and a probe connector comprising one or more conductors connected to the one or more sensors;

determining, based on the ground-signal conductor pattern, a temperature probe type for the temperature probe and an associated temperature model for evaluating the one or more sensor signals, wherein the temperature probe is determined to be a resistance temperature detector (RTD) when a tip of the probe connector is grounded;

determining, based on the one or more sensor signals and based on the associated temperature model, one or more temperature estimates; and

storing, in a memory, the one or more temperature estimates.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the associated temperature model comprises a lookup table.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein determining the one or more temperature estimates comprises:

determining a set of resistance signal values based on the one or more sensor signals; and

converting, using the associated temperature model, the set of resistance signal values to the one or more temperature estimates.

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein the one or more temperature estimates comprise at least one of an internal object temperature, an external object temperature, or an ambient temperature.

15. The method of claim 11 , wherein a notification is generated when the one or more temperature estimates is not within a predetermined temperature estimate range.

16. The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

causing the one or more temperature estimates to be presented to a user via an interface.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein causing the one or more temperature estimates to be presented to a user via an interface comprises displaying the one or more temperature estimates on a user device.

18. The method of claim 11 , wherein the temperature probe type is determined based on a set of mappings between spatial ground-signal conductor patterns and temperature probe types.

19. The method of claim 11 , wherein the one or more conductors comprises a set of rings, wherein the temperature probe type is determined to be a 1-sensor RTD when a single sensor signal is output by the set of rings.

20. The method of claim 11 , wherein the one or more conductors comprises a set of rings, wherein the temperature probe type is determined to be a 2-sensor RTD when two sensor signals are output by the set of rings.
