Abstract

A system and method for displaying pinned content in a user interface is described herein. A collaborative content management system displays pins in an order personalized to a user. The collaborative content management system receives a command to output a user interface with a set of pins corresponding to a collaborative content item. For each pin, the collaborative content management system inputs data corresponding to the pin into a machine learning model and receives from the model the probability that the user is interested in the pin. The collaborative content management system ranks the set of pins based on the computed probability and outputs the user interface with at least one pin based on the ranking of the set of pins.

Claims (48)

1 . A method comprising:

receiving a command to output a user interface comprising a set of pins associated with a collaborative content item;

for each pin of the set of pins:

inputting data corresponding to the pin into a machine learning model, wherein the machine learning model is trained using prior selections of pins from the user within the user interface; and

receiving, as output from the machine learning model, a probability that the user is interested in the pin;

ranking the set of pins based on the computed probability for each pin; and

outputting the user interface comprising at least one pin based on the ranking of the set of pins.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the user interface is displayed in visual association with internal content of the collaborative content item.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the user interface is displayed externally from internal content of the collaborative content item.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein receiving the command comprises receiving a request for pinned content with respect to the collaborative content item, and wherein the user interface comprises selectable options corresponding to the at least one pin.

5 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the method further comprises, responsive to receiving a selection of a given pin of the at least one pin:

accessing the internal content of the collaborative content item; and

navigating to content corresponding to the given pin within the collaborative content item.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the content comprises one or more of text, an image, a video, an embedded audio file, an embedded PDF file, an embedded spreadsheet file, a table, an equation, a comment, and a tracked change.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein outputting the user interface comprises outputting the user interface comprising the set of pins in an order determined from the ranking, the set of pins comprising two or more pins.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the set of pins includes pins generated by a machine learning model, wherein the machine learning model is trained to receive collaborative content item data as input and to output a set of pins.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the set of pins includes an access-restricted pin, wherein an access-restricted pin is a pin that may only be viewed or pinned by users with a particular set of permissions, and wherein the method further comprises:

determining whether a user has the set of permissions required to access the access-restricted pin; and

including the access-restricted pin within the ranking responsive to determining that the user has the set of permissions required to access the access-restricted pin.

10 . The method of claim 1 further comprising:

determining a subset of the set of pins that do not satisfy one or more criteria; and

filtering the subset of the set of pins from the set of pins.

11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the one or more criteria include one or more of the following: a type of content of the pin, a number of users who pinned the pin, users who pinned the pin, or a category of users who pinned the pin, or whether the user has a set of permissions require to access the pin.

12 . The method of claim 10 , wherein filtering the subset of the set of pins from the set of pins occurs before inputting data corresponding to the pin into the machine learning model.

13 . The method of claim 10 , wherein filtering the subset of the set of pins from the set of pins occurs before ranking the set of pins based on the computed probability for each pin.

14 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising memory with instructions encoded thereon, the instructions, when executed by one or more processors, causing the one or more processors to perform operations, the instructions comprising instructions to:

receive a command to output a user interface comprising a set of pins associated with a collaborative content item;

for each pin of the set of pins:

input data corresponding to the pin into a machine learning model, wherein the machine learning model is trained using prior selections of pins from the user within the user interface; and

receive, as output from the machine learning model, a probability that the user is interested in the pin;

rank the set of pins based on the computed probability for each pin; and

output the user interface comprising at least one pin based on the ranking of the set of pins.

15 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the user interface is displayed in visual association with internal content of the collaborative content item.

16 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the user interface is displayed externally from internal content of the collaborative content item.

17 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 16 , wherein the instructions for receiving the command comprise instructions to receive a request for pinned content with respect to the collaborative content item, and wherein the user interface comprises selectable options corresponding to the at least one pin.

18 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 16 , wherein the instructions further comprise instructions to, responsive to receiving a selection of a given pin of the at least one pin:

access the internal content of the collaborative content item; and

navigate to content corresponding to the given pin within the collaborative content item.

19 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the content comprises one or more of text, an image, a video, an embedded audio file, an embedded PDF file, an embedded spreadsheet file, a table, an equation, a comment, and a tracked change.

20 . A system comprising:

memory with instructions encoded thereon; and

one or more processors that, when executing the instructions, are caused to perform operations comprising:

receiving a command to output a user interface comprising a set of pins associated with a collaborative content item;

for each pin of the set of pins:

inputting data corresponding to the pin into a machine learning model, wherein the machine learning model is trained using prior selections of pins from the user within the user interface; and

receiving, as output from the machine learning model, a probability that the user is interested in the pin;

ranking the set of pins based on the computed probability for each pin; and

outputting the user interface comprising at least one pin based on the ranking of the set of pins.
