Abstract

Techniques disclosed herein relate generally to alert management based on sleeping status. In some embodiments, the techniques involve obtaining user status data indicative of a sleeping status of a user of a medical device, and controlling alert generation and output associated with the medical device in accordance with the sleeping status of the user.

Claims (64)

1 . A processor-implemented method comprising:

obtaining, via a sleep detection system, user status data indicative of a sleeping status of a user of a medical device configured to use an alerting scheme;

based on at least one of a sleep quality metric or a sleep duration metric for the user associated with the sleeping status of the user, replacing, supplementing, or modifying the alerting scheme to regulate alert generation and output associated with the medical device; and

controlling the alert generation and output associated with the medical device in accordance with the replaced, supplemented, or modified alerting scheme.

2 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein controlling the alert generation and output includes silencing at least one alert while the user is asleep.

3 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein controlling the alert generation and output includes queuing at least one alert for subsequent presentation to the user while the user is asleep.

4 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein controlling the alert generation and output includes delaying outputting of at least one alert while the user is asleep.

5 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein controlling the alert generation and output includes, while the user is asleep, changing a default output type for at least one alert to an elevated output type that is more aggressive than the default output type.

6 . The processor-implemented method of claim 5 , wherein:

the default output type is associated with outputting the at least one alert by a default alerting device; and

the elevated output type is associated with outputting the at least one alert by an ancillary alerting device that is different from the default alerting device.

7 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein:

the alerting scheme is configured for use while the user status data is indicative that the user is awake;

the replaced, supplemented, or modified alerting scheme comprises a sleep mode alerting scheme is configured to inhibit an output of the alert while the user status data is indicative that the user is sleeping; and

controlling the alert generation and output in accordance with the replaced, supplemented, or modified alerting scheme comprises:

in response to the user status data indicating that the user is sleeping, activating the sleep mode alerting scheme; and

controlling the alert generation and output in accordance with the sleep mode alerting scheme.

8 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

outputting a safety alert, using a default output type, while the user is sleeping;

in response to determining that the safety alert has been ignored for at least a threshold period of time, changing the default output type to an elevated output type that is more aggressive than the default output type; and

re-outputting the safety alert using the elevated output type.

9 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein:

the user status data includes the at least one of the sleep quality metric or the sleep duration metric for the user.

10 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein controlling the alert generation and output is performed by the medical device or an ancillary control system that remotely controls operation of the medical device.

11 . A system comprising:

one or more processors; and

one or more processor-readable media storing instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause performance of:

obtaining, via a sleep detection system, user status data indicative of a sleeping status of a user of a medical device configured to use an alerting scheme;

based on at least one of a sleep quality metric or a sleep duration metric for the user associated with the sleeping status of the user, replacing, supplementing, or modifying the alerting scheme to regulate alert generation and output associated with the medical device; and

controlling the alert generation and output associated with the medical device in accordance with the replaced, supplemented, or modified alerting scheme.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein controlling the alert generation and output includes, while the user is asleep:

silencing at least one alert;

queuing at least one alert for subsequent presentation to the user;

delaying outputting of at least one alert; or

a combination thereof.

13 . The system of claim 11 , wherein controlling the alert generation and output includes, while the user is asleep, changing a default output type for at least one alert to an elevated output type that is more aggressive than the default output type.

14 . The system of claim 13 , wherein:

the default output type is associated with outputting the at least one alert by a default alerting device; and

the elevated output type is associated with outputting the at least one alert by an ancillary alerting device that is different from the default alerting device.

15 . The system of claim 11 , wherein:

the alerting scheme is configured for use while the user status data is indicative that the user is awake;

the replaced, supplemented, or modified alerting scheme comprises a sleep mode alerting scheme is configured to inhibit an output of the alert while the user status data is indicative that the user is sleeping; and

controlling the alert generation and output in accordance with the replaced, supplemented, or modified alerting scheme comprises:

in response to the user status data indicating that the user is sleeping, activating the sleep mode alerting scheme; and

controlling the alert generation and output in accordance with the sleep mode alerting scheme.

16 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the instructions further cause performance of:

outputting a safety alert using a default output type while the user is sleeping;

in response to determining that the safety alert has been ignored for at least a threshold period of time, changing the default output type to an elevated output type that is more aggressive than the default output type; and

re-outputting the safety alert using the elevated output type.

17 . The system of claim 11 , wherein:

the user status data includes the at least one of the sleep quality metric or the sleep duration metric for the user.

18 . One or more non-transitory processor-readable media storing instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, cause performance of:

obtaining, via a sleep detection system, user status data indicative of a sleeping status of a user of a medical device configured to use an existing alerting scheme;

based on at least one of a sleep quality metric or a sleep duration metric for the user associated with the sleeping status of the user, replacing, supplementing, or modifying the existing alerting scheme with a sleep mode alerting scheme to regulate alert generation and output associated with the medical device; and

controlling the alert generation and output associated with the medical device in accordance with the sleep mode alerting scheme.

19 . The one or more non-transitory processor-readable media of claim 18 , wherein controlling the alert generation and output includes, while the user is asleep:

silencing at least one alert;

queuing at least one alert for subsequent presentation to the user;

delaying outputting of at least one alert;

changing a default output type for at least one alert to an elevated output type that is more aggressive than the default output type; or

a combination thereof.

20 . The one or more non-transitory processor-readable media of claim 18 , wherein:

the user status data includes at least one of a sleep quality metric or a sleep duration metric for the user; and

controlling the alert generation and output includes controlling the alert generation and output based on at least one of the sleep quality metric or the sleep duration metric for the user.
