Abstract

A ceiling fan assembly having a motor with a rotor and a stator, at least one blade operably coupled to the stator, a motor shaft extending from the stator and having an internal wire passage and a wire opening in a side of the motor shaft, with the wire opening providing access to the internal wire passage, a control mounting plate having a motor shaft opening through which the motor shaft extends and an electronic control unit carried by a side of the control mounting plate.

Claims (47)

1. A ceiling fan assembly comprising:

a motor housing defining an interior;

a motor having a rotor and a stator, with the stator received within the interior;

at least one blade operably coupled to the motor;

a motor shaft extending from the stator;

a platform located within the interior and having a motor shaft opening through which the motor shaft extends, with the motor shaft opening being sized to define a gap between the motor shaft and the platform, with the platform and gap extending entirely circumferentially around the motor shaft; and

a split adapter located within the interior and having multiple, inter-connected segments, which surround the motor shaft and occlude the gap.

2. The ceiling fan assembly of claim 1 wherein the platform is a single piece.

3. The ceiling fan assembly of claim 1 wherein the motor shaft has a wire opening in a peripheral side of the motor shaft and the platform is located between the wire opening and the motor.

4. The ceiling fan assembly of claim 1 further comprising a controller located between the platform and the motor.

5. The ceiling fan assembly of claim 1 wherein at least one of the multiple, inter-connected segments is mounted to the motor shaft.

6. The ceiling fan assembly of claim 5 wherein all of the multiple, inter-connected segments are mounted to the motor shaft.

7. The ceiling fan assembly of claim 1 wherein at least two of the multiple, inter-connected segments have overlapping portions.

8. The ceiling fan assembly of claim 7 wherein at least one of the overlapping portions is a step.

9. The ceiling fan assembly of claim 8 wherein another of the overlapping portions resides above the step.

10. The ceiling fan assembly of claim 1 wherein at least one of the multiple, inter-connected segments defines at least a portion of a collar circumscribing the motor shaft.

11. The ceiling fan assembly of claim 10 wherein all of the multiple segments have a portion, which collectively defines the collar.

12. The ceiling fan assembly of claim 11 wherein at least one of the multiple, inter-connected segments is co-planar with the platform.

13. The ceiling fan assembly of claim 12 wherein all of the multiple, inter-connected segments are co-planar with the platform.

14. The ceiling fan assembly of claim 11 wherein at least two of the multiple, inter-connected segments have cooperating snap-fit connections.

15. The ceiling fan assembly of claim 14 wherein the snap-fit connections comprise tabs and tab openings, which receive the tabs.

16. The ceiling fan assembly of claim 15 wherein each of the at least two multiple, inter-connected segments has both tabs and tab openings.

17. The ceiling fan assembly of claim 11 wherein the multiple, inter-connected segments comprise two segments.

18. The ceiling fan assembly of claim 17 wherein the two segments collectively define a periphery complementary with the shape of the motor shaft opening.

19. The ceiling fan assembly of claim 18 wherein the periphery is a circle.

20. The ceiling fan assembly of claim 19 wherein the two segments form equal halves of the circle.

21. A ceiling fan assembly comprising:

a motor having a rotor and a stator;

at least one blade operably coupled to the motor;

a motor shaft extending from the stator;

a platform having a motor shaft opening through which the motor shaft extends, with the motor shaft opening being sized to define a gap between the motor shaft and the platform, with the platform and gap extending entirely circumferentially around the motor shaft;

a split adapter having multiple, inter-connected segments, which surround the motor shaft and occlude the gap; and

a controller located between the platform and the motor.

22. A ceiling fan assembly comprising:

a motor having a rotor and a stator;

at least one blade operably coupled to the motor;

a motor shaft extending from the stator;

a platform having a motor shaft opening through which the motor shaft extends, with the motor shaft opening being sized to define a gap between the motor shaft and the platform, with the platform and gap extending entirely circumferentially around the motor shaft;

a split adapter having multiple, inter-connected segments, which surround the motor shaft and occlude the gap; and

wherein at least two of the multiple, inter-connected segments have overlapping portions and at least one of the overlapping portions is a step.

23. A ceiling fan assembly comprising:

a motor having a rotor and a stator;

at least one blade operably coupled to the motor;

a motor shaft extending from the stator;

a platform having a motor shaft opening through which the motor shaft extends, with the motor shaft opening being sized to define a gap between the motor shaft and the platform, with the platform and gap extending entirely circumferentially around the motor shaft;

a split adapter having multiple, inter-connected segments, which surround the motor shaft and occlude the gap; and

wherein at least one of the multiple, inter-connected segments defines at least a portion of a collar circumscribing the motor shaft and all of the multiple segments have a portion, which collectively defines the collar.
