Abstract

A motor adapter assembly can couple a motor shaft for a ceiling fan motor to a downrod. The motor adapter assembly can include a base plate, a cradle with arms extending through the base plate, and a threaded bushing secured between the arms of the cradle. Threading a cap to the threaded bushing can be used to pivot the downrod between an upright position and a pivoted position.

Claims (24)

1. A motor adapter assembly for coupling a motor shaft of a ceiling fan to a downrod having opposing downrod apertures through a motor housing and adapted to pivot between an upright position and a pivoted position, the motor adapter assembly comprising:

a wedge having an peripheral wall defining a passage configured to receive the downrod and the peripheral wall including opposing wedge apertures;

a cradle with a body having two spaced arms that at least partially define a seat, which receives the wedge, with an arm aperture in each arm that are aligned with the wedge apertures when the wedge is received within the seat;

a pin extending through the aligned wedge apertures and the arm apertures to couple the cradle and the wedge and configured to couple the wedge and the cradle to the downrod; and

a threaded cap provided around the wedge and threadably engaging the pin wherein rotation of the cap draws the wedge into engagement with the pin thereby preventing rotation of the wedge relative to the pin.

2. The motor adapter assembly of claim 1 further comprising a first plate having a set of slots adapted to receive the arms of the cradle, wherein the first plate couples the cradle to the motor housing.

3. The motor adapter assembly of claim 2 further comprising a second plate coupled to one of the motor housing or the first plate, adapted to couple to the cap.

4. The motor adapter assembly of claim 1 wherein the pin includes a spring finger configured to retain the pin within the downrod, the wedge, and the arms of the cradle.

5. The motor adapter assembly of claim 1 further comprising a fastener retained in the seat and adapted to couple to the motor shaft.

6. The motor adapter assembly of claim 1 wherein the pin forms a rotational axis for the wedge relative to the cradle.

7. The motor adapter assembly of claim 1 wherein the pin includes a spring member that secures the pin within the wedge and the cradle, and wherein the spring member is depressible to release the pin from the wedge and the cradle.

8. The motor adapter assembly of claim 1 wherein the cap threads about the pin.

9. A motor adapter assembly for coupling a motor shaft of a ceiling fan to a downrod having opposing downrod apertures through a motor housing and adapted to pivot between an upright position and a pivoted position, the motor adapter assembly comprising:

a wedge having an peripheral wall defining a passage configured to receive the downrod and the peripheral wall including opposing wedge apertures;

a cradle with a body having two spaced arms that at least partially define a seat, with an arm aperture in each arm that are aligned with the wedge apertures;

a pin extending through the wedge apertures and the arm apertures to couple the cradle and the wedge and configured to couple the wedge and the cradle to the downrod;

a cap provided around the wedge and covering the pin; and

a first plate having a set of slots adapted to receive the arms of the cradle, wherein the first plate couples the cradle to the motor housing.

10. The motor adapter assembly of claim 9 further comprising a second plate coupled to one of the motor housing or the first plate, adapted to couple to the cap.

11. The motor adapter assembly of claim 9 wherein the pin includes a spring finger configured to retain the pin within the downrod, the wedge, and the arms of the cradle.

12. The motor adapter assembly of claim 9 further comprising a fastener retained in the seat and adapted to couple to the motor shaft.

13. The motor adapter assembly of claim 9 wherein the pin forms a rotational axis for the wedge relative to the cradle.

14. The motor adapter assembly of claim 9 wherein the pin includes a spring member that secures the pin within the wedge and the cradle, and wherein the spring member is depressible to release the pin from the wedge and the cradle.

15. The motor adapter assembly of claim 9 wherein the cap threads about the pin.
