Abstract

Methods, systems, and devices for charging a wearable ring device are described. A charging station may include one or more charging elements that are configured to couple with, and facilitate current flow to, corresponding charging elements of a wearable ring device. The charging elements of the charging station, of the wearable ring device, or both may be magnetic so that the wearable ring device is aligned in a charging position when the wearable ring device is inserted into the charging station.

Claims (29)

1 . A charging station, comprising:

a receptacle portion configured to accommodate a plurality of differently sized wearable ring devices; and

a first charging element disposed within the receptacle portion and comprising a magnetic interior portion that forms a charging contact, wherein the first charging element is configured to apply an attractive magnetic force to a second charging element of a wearable ring device so that the wearable ring device aligns, when placed in the receptacle portion, in a charging position that facilitates current flow between the first charging element of the charging station and the second charging element of the wearable ring device.

2 . The charging station of claim 1 , wherein the charging contact of the first charging element is in contact with the second charging element of the wearable ring device when the wearable ring device is aligned in the charging position.

3 . The charging station of claim 1 , further comprising:

a third charging element disposed within the receptacle portion and comprising a second magnetic interior portion that forms a second charging contact, wherein the second charging element is configured to apply an attractive magnetic force to a fourth charging element of the wearable ring device so that the wearable ring device aligns in the charging position, and wherein the charging position facilitates current flow between the third charging element of the charging station and the fourth charging element of the wearable ring device.

4 . The charging station of claim 3 , wherein the first charging element of the charging station and the third charging element of the charging station are configured to align the plurality of differently sized wearable ring devices in the charging position.

5 . The charging station of claim 1 , further comprising:

a third charging element disposed within the receptacle portion and comprising a second magnetic interior portion that forms a second charging contact, wherein the third charging element is configured to apply an attractive magnetic force to a conductive band on an inner circumferential surface of the wearable ring device so that the wearable ring device aligns in the charging position, and wherein the charging position facilitates current flow between the third charging element of the charging station and the conductive band of the wearable ring device.

6 . The charging station of claim 1 , wherein the receptacle portion comprises a docking pillar that is configured to fit within respective inner circumferences of the plurality of differently sized wearable ring devices, and wherein the docking pillar comprises the first charging element and the first charging element is configured to couple with the second charging element that is on an inner circumferential surface of the wearable ring device.

7 . The charging station of claim 1 , wherein the receptacle portion comprises a docking surface configured to circumferentially surround respective outer circumferences of the plurality of differently sized wearable ring devices, and wherein the docking surface comprises the first charging element and the first charging element is configured to couple with the second charging element that is on an outer circumferential surface of the wearable ring device.

8 . The charging station of claim 1 , wherein the receptacle portion is configured to interface with a rim surface of the wearable ring device, and wherein the first charging element is configured to couple with the second charging element that is on the rim surface of the wearable ring device.

9 . The charging station of claim 1 , further comprising:

a magnetic sub-portion on the receptacle portion that is configured to magnetically couple with a rim surface of the wearable ring device when the wearable ring device is aligned in the charging position.

10 . The charging station of claim 1 , wherein the magnetic interior portion is at least partially coated by a conductive material that comprises a material with higher conductivity relative to the magnetic interior portion.

11 . The charging station of claim 10 , wherein the conductive material comprises gold, nickel, copper, palladium, or any combination thereof.

12 . A wearable ring device, comprising:

a battery disposed within the wearable ring device; and

a first charging element disposed within the wearable ring device and coupled with the battery, the first charging element configured to magnetically couple with a second charging element of a charging station so that the wearable ring device aligns, when placed in a receptacle portion of the charging station, in a charging position that facilitates current flow between the first charging element of the charging station and the second charging element of the wearable ring device.

13 . The wearable ring device of claim 12 , wherein the first charging element is in contact with the second charging element of the charging station when the wearable ring device is aligned in the charging position.

14 . The wearable ring device of claim 12 , further comprising:

a third charging element configured to magnetically couple with a fourth charging element of the charging station so that the wearable ring device aligns in the charging position, and wherein the charging position facilitates current flow between the third charging element of the wearable ring device and the fourth charging element of the charging station.

15 . The wearable ring device of claim 12 , further comprising:

a conductive band on an inner circumferential surface of the wearable ring device, wherein the charging position facilitates current flow between a third charging element of the charging station and the conductive band of the wearable ring device.

16 . The wearable ring device of claim 12 , wherein the first charging element is on an inner circumferential surface of the wearable ring device and is configured to magnetically couple with the second charging element that is on a docking pillar of the charging station.

17 . The wearable ring device of claim 12 , wherein the first charging element is on an outer circumferential surface of the wearable ring device and is configured to magnetically couple with the second charging element that is on a docking surface, of the charging station, that configured to at least partially circumferentially surround the outer circumferential surface.

18 . The wearable ring device of claim 12 , wherein the first charging element is on a rim surface of the wearable ring device and is configured to magnetically couple with the second charging element that is on a bottom surface of the receptacle portion of the charging station.

19 . The wearable ring device of claim 12 , wherein the first charging element comprises a magnetic interior portion that forms a charging contact.

20 . The wearable ring device of claim 19 , wherein the magnetic interior portion is at least partially coated by a conductive material that comprises a material with higher conductivity relative to the magnetic interior portion.
