Abstract

Techniques are described for correlating entity identification information with refuse containers being serviced by a refuse collection vehicle (RCV). Location data can be collected by location sensor(s) on the RCV at a time when a triggering condition is present, such as a time when a lift arm is operating to empty a refuse container into the hopper of the RCV. The location data can be provided as input to an algorithm that estimates a container location through a vector offset to account for the distance and direction of the RCV lift arm relative to the location sensor in the RCV. The container location can be correlated with parcel data to determine the parcel that the container was on or near to when it was serviced, and the customer or other entity associated with the parcel can be correlated to the particular container based on the analysis.

Claims (36)

1. A system comprising:

at least one processor; and

memory communicably coupled to the at least one processor, the memory storing instructions which, when executed, cause the at least one processor to perform operations comprising:

detecting, by the at least one processor, a triggering event based on data generated by at least one body sensor device on a refuse collection vehicle (RCV), the triggering event associated with the RCV servicing a refuse container;

in response to the triggering event, receiving, by the at least one processor, location data comprising global positioning system (GPS) coordinates corresponding to a location of the RCV;

applying, by the at least one processor, a geospatial algorithm to the GPS coordinates to estimate a location of the refuse container; and

correlating, by the at least one processor, the estimated location of the refuse container to parcel data to identify an entity associated with the refuse container.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one processor is disposed on board the RCV.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein detecting the triggering event comprises detecting a particular operational state of at least one body component of the RCV, and wherein the particular operational state comprises a predetermined position of at least one of a lift arm of the RCV, a top lid of a hopper of the RCV, or a grabber of the RCV.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the geospatial algorithm comprises a triangular offset including:

a first distance in a first direction between a GPS receiver on the RCV and a lift arm of the RCV; and

a second distance in a second direction between the lift arm and a parcel.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the first direction is aligned with a heading of the RCV, and where the second direction is offset from the heading by 90 degrees.

6. The system of claim 4 , wherein the first distance is less than the second distance.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the estimated location comprises geographic coordinates that are distinct from the received GPS coordinates.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the operations further comprise:

generating, by the at least one processor, a map of the parcel data, the GPS coordinates corresponding to the location of the RCV, and the geographic coordinates of the estimated location.

9. The system of claim 8 , further comprising a display device onboard the RCV configured to display the map.

10. The system of claim 7 , further comprising a transmitter onboard the RCV configured to transmit at least one of the GPS coordinates, the estimated location, or the parcel data to a remote location.

11. A computer-implemented method performed by at least one processor, the method comprising:

detecting a triggering event based on data generated by at least one body sensor device on a refuse collection vehicle (RCV), the triggering event associated with the RCV servicing a refuse container;

in response to the triggering event, receiving location data comprising global positioning system (GPS) coordinates corresponding to a location of the RCV;

applying a geospatial algorithm to the GPS coordinates to estimate a location of the refuse container; and

correlating the estimated location of the refuse container to parcel data to identify an entity associated with the refuse container.

12. The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , wherein the at least one processor is disposed on board the RCV.

13. The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , wherein detecting the triggering event comprises detecting a particular operational state of at least one body component of the RCV, and wherein the particular operational state comprises a predetermined position of at least one of a lift arm of the RCV, a top lid of a hopper of the RCV, or a grabber of the RCV.

14. The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , wherein the geospatial algorithm comprises a triangular offset including:

a first distance in a first direction between a GPS receiver on the RCV and a lift arm of the RCV; and

a second distance in a second direction between the lift arm and a parcel.

15. The computer-implemented method of claim 14 , wherein the first direction is aligned with a heading of the RCV, and where the second direction is offset from the heading by 90 degrees.

16. The computer-implemented method of claim 14 , wherein the first distance is less than the second distance.

17. The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , wherein the estimated location comprises geographic coordinates that are distinct from the received GPS coordinates.

18. The computer-implemented method of claim 17 , further comprising:

generating, by the at least one processor, a map of the parcel data, the GPS coordinates corresponding to the location of the RCV, and the geographic coordinates of the estimated location.

19. The computer-implemented method of claim 18 , further comprising displaying the map on a display device onboard the RCV.

20. The computer-implemented method of claim 17 , further comprising transmitting at least one of the GPS coordinates, the estimated location, or the parcel data to a remote location.
