Abstract

Vaporizer cartridges and vaporizer apparatuses, and methods for making, using and delivering vapor to a user, that are leak-resistant for use with cannabinoids. In particular, described herein are leak-resistant vaporizer cartridges and apparatuses adapted for use with oil-based vaporizable materials including cannabis oils.

Claims (116)

1. A vaporizer cartridge comprising:

a cartridge body comprising a proximal body end and a distal body end opposite the proximal body end;

a mouthpiece coupled to the proximal body end, wherein the mouthpiece comprises an outlet;

a reservoir comprising an internal volume at least partially defined by the cartridge body, wherein the internal volume is configured to hold a vaporizable material;

a first reservoir seal configured to cover a first reservoir opening exposing the internal volume of the reservoir;

a second reservoir seal configured to cover a second reservoir opening exposing the internal volume of the reservoir, wherein the first reservoir seal and the second reservoir seal are positioned within an interior of the mouthpiece;

a bottom cover comprising a bottom portion positioned distally relative to the cartridge body, wherein the bottom portion comprises at least a first air opening;

a first cartridge electrical contact configured to contact a first body electrical contact on a vaporizer body;

a second cartridge electrical contact configured to contact a second body electrical contact on the vaporizer body; and

a vaporization chamber comprising:

a heating element configured to heat the vaporizable material from the reservoir to generate an aerosol

a wicking material comprising ceramic;

a housing piece configured to house at least a portion of the wicking material, wherein the housing piece comprises a housing opening into which at least the portion of the wicking material passes into the housing piece; and

an air tube configured to deliver the aerosol to the mouthpiece.

2. The vaporizer cartridge of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the housing piece is cylindrical.

3. The vaporizer cartridge of claim 1 , wherein the vaporizer cartridge is configured to be magnetically coupled and secured within a cartridge receiver of the vaporizer body.

4. The vaporizer cartridge of claim 1 , further comprising a gasket positioned between the reservoir and the bottom cover.

5. A vaporizer device, comprising:

the vaporizer cartridge of claim 1 ; and

the vaporizer body, comprising:

a cartridge receiver configured to insertably receive the vaporizer cartridge, wherein the cartridge receiver comprises:

the first body electrical contact configured to electrically couple to the first cartridge electrical contact of the vaporizer cartridge;

the second body electrical contact configured to electrically couple to the second cartridge electrical contact of the vaporizer cartridge;

an insertion end into which the vaporizer cartridge is inserted; and

a base opposite the insertion end.

6. The vaporizer device of claim 5 , further comprising: a pressure sensor configured to detect a draw on the mouthpiece to activate the vaporizer device; and a channel extending from the base of the cartridge receiver to the pressure sensor.

7. The vaporizer device of claim 5 , further comprising one or more LEDs, wherein the vaporizer device is configured to cause the one or more LEDs to illuminate during the generation of the aerosol by the heating element of the vaporizer cartridge.

8. The vaporizer cartridge of claim 1 , wherein the bottom cover consists of two air openings comprising the first air opening and a second air opening.

9. The vaporizer cartridge of claim 1 , consisting of two cartridge electrical contacts comprising the first cartridge electrical contact and the second cartridge electrical contact.

The vaporizer cartridge of claim 1 , wherein the bottom cover comprises a bottom portion, and wherein the bottom portion comprises: the first air opening; a second air opening; a first cartridge electrical contact opening through which the first cartridge electrical contact is exposed; and a second cartridge electrical contact opening through which the second cartridge electrical contact is exposed.

11. A vaporizer device, comprising:

a vaporizer cartridge comprising:

a cartridge body comprising a proximal body end and a distal body end opposite the proximal body end;

a mouthpiece coupled to the proximal body end, wherein the mouthpiece comprises an outlet;

a reservoir comprising an internal volume at least partially defined by the cartridge body, wherein the internal volume is configured to hold a vaporizable material;

a first reservoir seal configured to cover a first reservoir opening exposing the internal volume of the reservoir;

a second reservoir seal configured to cover a second reservoir opening exposing the internal volume of the reservoir, wherein the first reservoir seal and the second reservoir seal are positioned within an interior of the mouthpiece;

a bottom cover comprising a bottom portion positioned distally relative to the cartridge body, wherein the bottom portion comprises at least a first air opening;

a first cartridge electrical contact configured to contact a first body electrical contact on a vaporizer body;

a second cartridge electrical contact configured to contact a second body electrical contact on the vaporizer body; and

a vaporization chamber comprising:

a heating element configured to heat the vaporizable material from the reservoir to generate an aerosol;

a wicking material comprising ceramic;

a housing piece configured to house at least a portion of the wicking material, wherein the housing piece comprises a housing opening into which at least the portion of the wicking material passes into the housing piece; and

an air tube configured to deliver the aerosol to the mouthpiece; and

a vaporizer body, comprising:

a cartridge receiver configured to insertably receive the vaporizer cartridge, wherein the cartridge receiver comprises:

a first body electrical contact configured to electrically couple to the first cartridge electrical contact of the vaporizer cartridge;

a second body electrical contact configured to electrically couple to the second cartridge electrical contact of the vaporizer cartridge;

an insertion end into which the vaporizer cartridge is inserted; and

a base opposite the insertion end;

a pressure sensor configured to detect a change in pressure, causing activation of the vaporizer device; and

a channel extending between the base of the cartridge receiver and the pressure sensor.

12. The vaporizer device of claim 11 , wherein the vaporizer body further comprises one or more LEDs, wherein the vaporizer device is configured to cause the one or more LEDs to illuminate during the generation of the aerosol by the heating element of the vaporizer cartridge.

13. The vaporizer device of claim 11 , wherein at least a portion of the housing piece is cylindrical.

14. The vaporizer device of claim 11 , wherein the vaporizer cartridge is configured to be magnetically coupled and secured within the cartridge receiver of the vaporizer body.

15. The vaporizer device of claim 11 , wherein the bottom cover consists of two air openings comprising the first air opening and a second air opening.

16. The vaporizer device of claim 11 , wherein the vaporizer cartridge consists of two cartridge electrical contacts comprising the first cartridge electrical contact and the second cartridge electrical contact.

17. The vaporizer device of claim 11 , wherein the bottom cover comprises a bottom portion, and wherein the bottom portion comprises the first air opening; a second air opening; a first cartridge electrical contact opening through which the first cartridge electrical contact is exposed; and a second cartridge electrical contact opening through which the second cartridge electrical contact is exposed.

18. A vaporizer cartridge comprising:

a cartridge body comprising a proximal body end and a distal body end opposite the proximal body end;

a mouthpiece coupled to the proximal body end, wherein the mouthpiece comprises an outlet;

a reservoir comprising an internal volume at least partially defined by the cartridge body, wherein the internal volume is configured to hold a vaporizable material;

a first reservoir seal configured to cover a first reservoir opening exposing the internal volume of the reservoir;

a second reservoir seal configured to cover a second reservoir opening exposing the internal volume of the reservoir, wherein the first reservoir seal and the second reservoir seal are positioned within an interior of the mouthpiece;

at least one pad positioned within an interior of the mouthpiece;

a bottom cover comprising a bottom portion positioned distally relative to the cartridge body, wherein the bottom portion comprises at least a first air opening;

a first cartridge electrical contact configured to contact a first body electrical contact on a vaporizer body;

a second cartridge electrical contact configured to contact a second body electrical contact on the vaporizer body; and

a vaporization chamber comprising:

a heating element configured to heat the vaporizable material from the reservoir to generate an aerosol;

a wicking material comprising ceramic;

a housing piece configured to house at least a portion of the wicking material, wherein the housing piece comprises a housing opening into which at least the portion of the wicking material passes into the housing piece; and

an air tube configured to deliver the aerosol to the mouthpiece.

19. The vaporizer cartridge of claim 18 , wherein at least a portion of the housing piece is cylindrical.

20. The vaporizer cartridge of claim 18 , wherein the vaporizer cartridge is configured to be magnetically coupled and secured within a cartridge receiver of the vaporizer body.

21. The vaporizer cartridge of claim 18 , further comprising a gasket positioned between the reservoir and the bottom cover.

22. The vaporizer cartridge of claim 18 , wherein the at least one pad includes two pads.

23. A vaporizer device, comprising:

the vaporizer cartridge of claim 18 ; and

the vaporizer body, comprising:

a cartridge receiver configured to insertably receive the vaporizer cartridge, wherein the cartridge receiver comprises:

the first body electrical contact configured to electrically couple to the first cartridge electrical contact of the vaporizer cartridge;

the second body electrical contact configured to electrically couple to the second cartridge electrical contact of the vaporizer cartridge;

an insertion end into which the vaporizer cartridge is inserted; and

a base opposite the insertion end.

24. The vaporizer device of claim 23 , further comprising: a pressure sensor configured to detect a draw on the mouthpiece to activate the vaporizer device; and a channel extending from the base of the cartridge receiver to the pressure sensor.

25. The vaporizer device of claim 23 , further comprising one or more LEDs, wherein the vaporizer device is configured to cause the one or more LEDs to illuminate during the generation of the aerosol by the heating element of the vaporizer cartridge.

26. A vaporizer device, comprising:

a vaporizer cartridge comprising:

a cartridge body comprising a proximal body end and a distal body end opposite the proximal body end;

a mouthpiece coupled to the proximal body end, wherein the mouthpiece comprises an outlet;

a reservoir comprising an internal volume at least partially defined by the cartridge body, wherein the internal volume is configured to hold a vaporizable material;

a first reservoir seal configured to cover a first reservoir opening exposing the internal volume of the reservoir;

a second reservoir seal configured to cover a second reservoir opening exposing the internal volume of the reservoir, wherein the first reservoir seal and the second reservoir seal are positioned within an interior of the mouthpiece;

at least one pad positioned within an interior of the mouthpiece;

a bottom cover comprising a bottom portion positioned distally relative to the cartridge body, wherein the bottom portion comprises at least a first air opening;

a first cartridge electrical contact configured to contact a first body electrical contact on a vaporizer body;

a second cartridge electrical contact configured to contact a second body electrical contact on the vaporizer body; and

a vaporization chamber comprising:

a heating element configured to heat the vaporizable material from the reservoir to generate an aerosol;

a wicking material comprising ceramic;

a housing piece configured to house at least a portion of the wicking material, wherein the housing piece comprises a housing opening into which at least the portion of the wicking material passes into the housing piece; and

an air tube configured to deliver the aerosol to the mouthpiece; and

a vaporizer body, comprising:

a cartridge receiver configured to insertably receive the vaporizer cartridge, wherein the cartridge receiver comprises:

a first body electrical contact configured to electrically couple to the first cartridge electrical contact of the vaporizer cartridge;

a second body electrical contact configured to electrically couple to the second cartridge electrical contact of the vaporizer cartridge;

an insertion end into which the vaporizer cartridge is inserted; and

a base opposite the insertion end;

a pressure sensor configured to detect a change in pressure, causing activation of the vaporizer device; and

a channel extending between the base of the cartridge receiver and the pressure sensor.

27. The vaporizer device of claim 26 , wherein the vaporizer body further comprises one or more LEDs, wherein the vaporizer device is configured to cause the one or more LEDs to illuminate during the generation of the aerosol by the heating element of the vaporizer cartridge.

28. The vaporizer device of claim 26 , wherein at least a portion of the housing piece is cylindrical.

29. The vaporizer device of claim 26 , wherein the vaporizer cartridge is configured to be magnetically coupled and secured within the cartridge receiver of the vaporizer body.

30. The vaporizer device of claim 26 , wherein the at least one pad includes two pads.
