Abstract

A method includes displaying events that correspond to search results of a search query, the events comprising data items of event attributes, the events displayed in a table. The table includes columns corresponding to an event attribute, rows corresponding events, cells populated data items, and interactive regions corresponding to at least one data item and selectable to add one or more commands to the search query. A reference event attribute is determined based on an analysis of a data object. A supplemental column corresponding to a supplemental event attribute is added to the table based on the reference event attribute. Supplemental interactive regions are added to the table and correspond to supplemental data items.

Claims (45)

1. A computer-implemented method comprising:

causing display of events that correspond to results of a query in a table comprising rows and columns of cells that display values of event attributes that are associated with the events, wherein the columns correspond to the event attributes, and the rows correspond to the events;

determining a reference event attribute of the event attributes based on a data object that defines supplemental values, wherein determining the reference event attribute includes:

determining a level of similarity between values of a potential field defined by the data object and values of a particular event attribute of the event attributes associated with the table, and

selecting the particular event attribute as the reference event attribute based on the determined level of similarity; and

based on a selection of an interface element corresponding to the data object, causing a column of cells that display the supplemental values to be added to the displayed columns in the table, the supplemental values mapped to the events of the column using corresponding ones of the values of the reference event attribute,

wherein the column includes an interactive region that corresponds to at least one of the supplemental values and is selectable to add at least one command to the query.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein a supplemental value of the column is displayed in a row of the table corresponding to a respective event that the supplemental value is mapped to using a value of the reference event attribute that is associated with the respective event.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein a supplemental value of the column is displayed in a row of the table corresponding to a respective event that the supplemental value is mapped to using a value of the reference event attribute that is associated with the respective event.

The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising based on the selection of the interface element, causing the query to be updated to include one or more commands, the updated query being executable to return search results comprising events associated with values of a supplemental field for the events that corresponds to the column.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein each of the supplemental values are determined from the data object using a common combination type that is user specified and defines how the supplemental values mapped to the events.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein each of the supplemental values are determined from the data object using a join combination type that defines how the supplemental values mapped to the events.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein each of the supplemental values are determined from the data object using a lookup combination type that defines how the supplemental values mapped to the events.

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

identifying a combination type preconfigured for the data object prior to the display of the events and the determining of the reference event attribute; and

based on the identifying, using the combination type that defines how the supplemental values are mapped to the events to determine the supplemental values.

9. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein a supplemental value of the supplemental values is extracted from data in a relational database identified by the data object.

10. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein a supplemental value of the supplemental values is extracted from a lookup table identified by the data object.

11. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein a supplemental value of the supplemental values is extracted from search results of a supplemental query identified by the data object.

The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the causing of the column to be added to the displayed columns comprises causing execution of a supplemental query associated with the data object, a supplemental value of the supplemental values being from search results of the supplemental query.

13. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the interface element represents the reference event attribute and is displayed with the table based on the determining of the reference event attribute.

14. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the supplemental values are of a supplemental field for the events, the supplemental field being defined by the data object.

15. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the data object defines supplemental fields, and the method further comprises:

causing presentation of the supplemental fields based on the determining of the reference event attribute;

receiving a selection of a subset of the presented supplemental fields; and

based on the selection of the subset, performing the causing of the column of cells to be added to the displayed columns.

16. One or more non-transitory computer-readable media having instructions stored thereon, the instructions, when executed by a processor of a computing device, to cause the computing device to perform a method comprising:

causing display of events that correspond to results of a query in a table comprising rows and columns of cells that display values of event attributes that are associated with the events, wherein the columns correspond to the event attributes, and the rows correspond to the events;

determining a reference event attribute of the event attributes based on a data object that defines supplemental values, wherein determining the reference event attribute includes:

determining a level of similarity between values of a potential field defined by the data object and values of a particular event attribute of the event attributes associated with the table, and

selecting the particular event attribute as the reference event attribute based on the determined level of similarity; and

based on a selection of an interface element corresponding to the data object, causing a column of cells that display the supplemental values to be added to the displayed columns in the table, the supplemental values mapped to the events of the column using corresponding ones of the values of the reference event attribute,

wherein the column includes an interactive region that corresponds to at least one of the supplemental values and is selectable to add at least one command to the query.

The one or more computer-readable media of claim 16 , wherein the causing of the column to be added to the displayed columns comprises causing execution of as supplemental query associated with the data object, as supplemental value of the supplemental values being from search results of the supplemental query.

The one or more computer-readable media of claim 16 , wherein a supplemental value of the supplemental values is mapped to an event of the events for presentation in a cell of the column in a row in the table corresponding to the event using a value of the reference event attribute of the event.

19. The one or more computer-readable media of claim 16 , wherein the supplemental values are of a supplemental field for the events, the supplemental field being defined by the data object.

20. A computer-implemented system comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory having instructions stored thereon, the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, to cause the system to perform a method comprising:

causing display of events that correspond to results of a query in a table comprising rows and columns of cells that display values of event attributes that are associated with the events, wherein the columns correspond to the event attributes, and the rows correspond to the events;

determining a reference event attribute of the event attributes based on a data object that defines supplemental values, wherein determining the reference event attribute includes:

determining a level of similarity between values of a potential field defined by the data object and values of a particular event attribute of the event attributes associated with the table, and

selecting the particular event attribute as the reference event attribute based on the determined level of similarity; and

based on a selection of an interface element corresponding to the data object, causing a column of cells that display the supplemental values to be added to the displayed columns in the table, the supplemental values mapped to the events of the column using corresponding ones of the values of the reference event attribute,

wherein the column includes an interactive region that corresponds to at least one of the supplemental values and is selectable to add at least one command to the query.
