Abstract

Apparatuses, methods, and systems are disclosed for indicating a packet data unit session as unavailable. One apparatus includes a processor that determines that at least one packet data unit session is unavailable. The apparatus includes a transmitter that transmits information indicating that the at least one packet data unit session is to be released.

Claims (41)

1. An apparatus comprising a session management function (SMF), the apparatus comprising:

a processor;

a memory coupled with the processor, the memory comprising instructions executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to:

receive a first message indicating for the SMF to locally release a protocol data unit (PDU) session;

remove, by the SMF, context associated with the PDU session;

transmit a second message indicating to release the context associated with the PDU session; and

transmit a third message in response to the first message.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the instructions are executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to:

receive, from an access and mobility management function (AMF), the message indicating for the SMF to locally release the PDU session.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the instructions are executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to:

transmit, to a user plane function (UPF) associated with the PDU session, the second message indicating to release the context associated with the PDU session.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the instructions are executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to:

locally release the PDU session without N1 or N2 signaling.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first message comprises a PDU session identifier (ID).

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first message comprises a session release request.

7. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the session release request comprises a PDU session release request.

8. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first message comprises a session update request.

9. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first message comprises Nsmf_PDUSession_UpdateSMContext.

10. A method of wireless communication at a session management function (SMF), the method comprising:

receiving a first message indicating for the SMF to locally release a protocol data unit (PDU) session; and

removing, by the SMF, context associated with the PDU session;

transmitting a second message indicating to release the context associated with the PDU session; and

transmitting a third message in response to the first message.

11. The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

receiving, from an access and mobility management function (AMF), the message indicating for the SMF to locally release the PDU session.

12. The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

transmitting, to a user plane function (UPF) associated with the PDU session, the second message indicating to release the context associated with the PDU session.

13. The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

locally releasing the PDU session without N1 or N2 signaling.

14. The method of claim 10 , wherein the first message comprises a PDU session identifier (ID).

15. The method of claim 10 , wherein the first message comprises a session release request.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the session release request comprises a PDU session release request.

17. The method of claim 10 , wherein the first message comprises a session update request.

18. The method of claim 10 , wherein the first message comprises Nsmf_PDUSession_UpdateSMContext.

19. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing code at a session management function (SMF), wherein the code comprises instructions executable by a processor to:

receive a first message indicating for the SMF to locally release a protocol data unit (PDU) session;

remove, by the SMF, context associated with the PDU session;

transmit a second message indicating to release the context associated with the PDU session; and

transmit a third message in response to the first message.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 19 , wherein the instructions are executable by the processor to:

receive, from an access and mobility management function (AMF), the message indicating for the SMF to locally release the PDU session.
