Abstract

Disclosed herein are methods of treating neurological or psychiatric diseases or disorders using a combination of bupropion and dextromethorphan. Related compositions and dosage forms are also described.

Claims (21)

1 . A method of treating major depressive disorder, comprising: screening a human patient for bipolar disorder, selecting the human patient for experiencing major depressive disorder, and administering twice daily to the human patient, a combination of: 1) 45 mg of dextromethorphan hydrobromide, or a molar equivalent amount of another salt form of dextromethorphan or dextromethorphan free base, and 2) 105 mg of bupropion hydrochloride, or a molar equivalent amount of another salt form of bupropion or bupropion free base.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the human patient is screened for a history of bipolar disorder.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the human patient is screened for a personal history of bipolar disorder.

4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the human patient is screened for a family history of bipolar disorder.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the combination is administered in a tablet.

6 . The method of claim 5 , further comprising administering one tablet daily to the human patient for three days prior to administering one tablet twice daily to the human patient.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the combination comprises 45 mg of dextromethorphan hydrobromide and 105 mg of bupropion hydrochloride.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein dextromethorphan hydrobromide is in an immediate release formulation.

9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein bupropion hydrochloride is in an extended-release formulation.

10 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising selecting a human patient for not having a bipolar disorder.

11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the combination is administered in a tablet.

12 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising administering one tablet daily to the human patient for three days prior to administering one tablet twice daily to the human patient.

13 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the combination comprises 45 mg of dextromethorphan hydrobromide and 105 mg of bupropion hydrochloride.

14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein dextromethorphan hydrobromide is in an immediate release formulation.

15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein bupropion hydrochloride is in an extended-release formulation.

16 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising selecting a human patient for not having a history of bipolar disorder.

17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the combination is administered in a tablet.

18 . The method of claim 17 , further comprising administering one tablet daily to the human patient for three days prior to administering one tablet twice daily to the human patient.

19 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the combination comprises 45 mg of dextromethorphan hydrobromide and 105 mg of bupropion hydrochloride.

20 . The method of claim 19 , wherein dextromethorphan hydrobromide is in an immediate release formulation.

21 . The method of claim 20 , wherein bupropion hydrochloride is in an extended-release formulation.
