Abstract

Methods of treating a complex wound by administering to a complex wound in the individual a therapeutically effective amount of a fetal support tissue product to treat the complex wound. Methods of treating a complex lower extremity ulcer by administering to a complex lower extremity ulcer in the individual a therapeutically effective amount of a fetal support tissue product to treat the complex lower extremity ulcer. Methods of reducing or preventing scar formation from granulation tissue by administering a fetal support tissue product to granulation tissue. Methods of repairing a spina bifida defect by administering to the defect in the individual a therapeutically effective amount of an umbilical cord product.

77 . A method of repairing spina bifida defect in an individual in need thereof, comprising: administering to the individual a therapeutically effective amount of fetal support tissue product thereby repairing the spina bifida defect.

78 . The method of claim 77 , wherein the spina bifida defect is a spina bifida cystica defect, a meningocele, or a meningomyelocele defect.

79 . The method of claim 78 , wherein the spina bifida cystica defect is myeloschisis.

80 . The method of claim 77 , wherein the individual is a fetus in utero.

81 . The method of claim 77 , wherein the individual is a neonate.

82 . The method of claim 77 , wherein the fetal support tissue product is a placental amniotic membrane product, umbilical cord product, umbilical cord amniotic membrane product, chorion, amnion-chorion product, placenta product, or any combination thereof.

83 . The method of claim 82 , wherein the fetal support tissue product is an umbilical cord product.

84 . The method of claim 83 , wherein the umbilical cord product further comprises Wharton’s Jelly.

85 . The method of claim 83 , wherein the umbilical cord product is substantially free of blood.

86 . The method claim 83 , wherein the umbilical cord product lacks an umbilical cord vein and umbilical cord arteries.

87 . The method of claim 83 , wherein the umbilical cord product comprises umbilical cord amniotic membrane.

88 . The method of claim 77 , wherein the administering comprises contacting the fetal support tissue product to the spina bifida defect site.

89 . The method of claim 77 , wherein the repairing comprises regenerating epidermal, dermal, and subcutaneous layers of a spinal cord, meninges, and/or both, of the individual.

90 . The method of claim 77 , wherein the administering is performed in utero.

91 . The method of claim 88 , wherein the fetal support tissue product is administered within at least 48 hours after birth.

92 . The method of claim 77 , wherein the fetal support tissue product is aseptically processed or terminally-sterilized.

93 . The method of claim 77 , wherein the fetal support tissue product is lyophilized, ground, pulverized, morselized, a graft, a sheet, a powder, a gel, a homogenate, or an extract.

94 . The method of claim 77 , wherein the fetal support tissue product is from a human.

95 . A method of reducing or preventing scar formation from granulation tissue in an individual in need thereof, comprising: administering to granulation tissue in the individual a therapeutically effective amount of a fetal support tissue product thereby reducing or preventing scar formation.
