Abstract

Techniques are described for tracking intruders of a monitored property by the unique identifying characteristics or “digital fingerprints” of electronic devices carried by the intruders. A system detects an alarm event at a monitored property based on output from at least one sensor located at the monitored property. In response to detecting the alarm event at the monitored property, the system initiates a process to gather electronic identifiers for mobile electronic devices located within the monitored property at a time corresponding to the detected alarm event. The system determines electronic identifiers for the mobile electronic devices located within the monitored property at a time corresponding to the detected alarm event. The system stores in electronic storage, information indicating the determined electronic identifiers for the mobile electronic devices located within the monitored property at a time corresponding to the detected alarm event.

Claims (42)

1. A method comprising:

determining, from among multiple types of alarm events and using sensor data captured by a sensor at a property, a type of alarm event detected at the property;

determining whether to select, from among multiple mobile electronic device detection procedures and using the determined type of the detected alarm event, a mobile electronic device detection procedure; and

in response to determining to select the mobile electronic device detection procedure, executing the selected mobile electronic device detection procedure for the alarm event detected at the property and to detect one or more mobile electronic devices at the property.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein executing the selected mobile electronic device detection procedure comprises determining whether one or more unrecognized electronic devices are detected at the property.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein executing the selected mobile electronic device detection procedure comprises:

spoofing, by one or more computers, a wireless device or a wireless network to cause one or more devices within a threshold distance of the one or more computers to respond to the spoofing; and

determining whether the one or more unrecognized electronic devices are detected at the property using a result of any responses to the spoofing.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein executing the selected mobile electronic device detection procedure comprises determining whether a recognized mobile electronic device is at the property.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the multiple types of alarm events comprise a fire alarm event type, a security breach alarm event type, and a water leak alarm event type; and

determining whether to select the mobile electronic device detection procedure comprises determining whether to select the mobile electronic device detection procedure that would not be selected for a different type of alarm event than the type of alarm event.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein executing the selected mobile electronic device detection procedure comprises determining whether known or unknown mobile electronic devices are at the property.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein executing the selected mobile electronic device detection procedure comprises monitoring communications originating from electronic devices located within the property.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein executing the selected mobile electronic device detection procedure comprises:

sending a notification to a mobile electronic device located at the property requesting instructions to trigger a mobile electronic device detector; and

in response to not receiving a response to the notification within a threshold period of time, triggering retrieval of information by the mobile electronic device detector.

9. A method comprising:

evaluating detected electronic identifiers for one or more mobile electronic devices located within a threshold distance of a portion of a property;

determining, from a set of alarm responses at least some of which are associated with different sets of mobile electronic device identifiers and using an alarm event and data for the detected electronic identifiers for one or more mobile electronic devices, an alarm response for the mobile electronic devices located within the threshold distance of the portion of the property; and

performing, using the determined alarm response for the alarm event, one or more actions for the alarm event.

10. The method claim 9 , further comprising detecting the electronic identifiers for the one or more mobile electronic devices by communicating, by one or more computers located at the property, with the mobile electronic devices.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein communicating by the one or more computers located at the property, with the mobile electronic devices comprises receiving, as a respective electronic identifier for a respective mobile electronic device, a media access control address.

12. The method of claim 9 , wherein performing the one or more actions for the alarm event using the determined alarm response comprises triggering one or more electronic device detectors to, for at least one of the mobile electronic devices, send a message to the mobile electronic device.

The method of claim 12 , comprising mimicking, by at least one of the one or more electronic device detectors, a service set identifier of a known network, wherein the at least one of the one or more electronic device detectors sends the message while mimicking the service set identifier of the known network.

14. The method of claim 9 , wherein performing the one or more actions for the alarm event, using the determined alarm response for the alarm event, comprises determining to skip triggering one or more electronic device detectors to attempt to communicate with the mobile electronic devices.

15. The method of claim 9 , wherein performing the one or more actions for the alarm event, comprises determining, using the determined alarm response, to trigger a subset of one or more electronic device detectors.

16. The method of claim 9 , wherein performing the one or more actions for the alarm event based on the determined alarm response comprises:

determining a location of the alarm event; and

determining to trigger a subset of one or more electronic device detectors within a pre-determined distance of the location of the alarm event.

17. The method of claim 9 , wherein performing the one or more actions for the alarm event based on the determined alarm response comprises triggering one or more camera units to begin capturing images.

18. The method of claim 9 , wherein determining the alarm response uses a number of one or more unrecognized electronic devices at the property and the alarm event.

19. The method of claim 9 , wherein:

evaluating the detected electronic identifiers for the one or more mobile devices located within the threshold distance of the portion of the property comprises determining electronic identifiers for mobile electronic devices located at the property; and

determining the alarm response uses the electronic identifiers for mobile electronic devices.

20. A method comprising:

determining, from among multiple types of alarm events, a type of alarm event detected at a property;

determining whether to select, from among multiple mobile electronic device detection procedures and using the determined type of the detected alarm event, a mobile electronic device detection procedure;

in response to determining to select the mobile electronic device detection procedure, executing the selected mobile electronic device detection procedure to detect mobile electronic device identifiers for mobile electronic devices located within a threshold distance of a portion of the property;

evaluating detected mobile electronic identifiers for mobile electronic devices located within the threshold distance of a portion of the property;

determining an alarm response for the mobile electronic devices located within the threshold distance of the portion of the property; and

performing, using the determined alarm response, one or more actions for the detected alarm event.
