Abstract

A method for a serving cell for signaling a communicating with a user equipment (UE) is described. The method may include transmitting, by the serving cell, a radio resource control (RRC) message to the UE. The RRC message may include a plurality of sets of parameters and a plurality of indices corresponding to the plurality of sets of parameters. The method may also include transmitting, by the serving cell, downlink control information (DCI) to the UE indicating an allocated resource block (RB) in a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) for the UE and an index corresponding to one of the plurality of sets of parameters to decode the allocated RB.

transmitting, by the serving cell, to the UE, a physical layer configuration comprising a set of parameters and indices, the physical layer configuration being transmitted in Downlink Control Information (DCI) over a Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH), wherein:

the set of parameters and indices is used to obtain Resource Block (RB) information, and

the RB information comprises a set of resources including at least one of frequency domain, time domain, and a modulation scheme; and

transmitting, by the serving cell, to the UE, downlink data in an allocated RB over a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH), wherein:

the allocated RB is indicated by the RB information, and

the UE is operable to decode the allocated RB without requiring additional physical layer configuration information from the serving cell.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

performing a profile indexing operation to define parameters in the set of parameters and indices; and

assigning indices to the parameters to generate the set of parameters and indices.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving an acknowledgement message from the UE indicating that the UE supports the set of parameters and indices.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

reconfiguring the set of parameters and indices; and

transmitting a Radio Resource Control (RRC) message to the UE indicating changes to the set of parameters and indices after the reconfiguration, wherein

the changes to set of parameters and indices comprise at least one of adding a new index for a new set of parameters, removing an existing index and an associated set of parameters, and canceling all of indices and parameters in the set of parameters and indices.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

counting a predefined time interval after transmitting the DCI to the UE, wherein during the predefined time interval, the serving cell maintains the set of parameters and indices.

6. The method of claim 5 , further comprising:

reconfiguring, after an expiration of the predefined time interval, the set of parameters and indices; and

transmitting a Radio Resource Control (RRC) message to the UE indicating the reconfigured set of parameters and indices.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, before transmitting the DCI to the UE, receiving, from the UE, a request for the set of parameters and indices.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein parameters in the set of parameters and indices comprises at least one of a subcarrier spacing value, a channel coding mode, a cyclic prefix length value, a transmission time interval (TTI) value, and a multiplexing mode.

9. A base station (BS), comprising:

one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing computer-executable instructions; and

at least one processor coupled to the one or more non-transitory computer-readable media and configured to execute the computer-executable instructions to:

transmit, by a serving cell to the UE a physical layer configuration comprising a set of parameters and indices, the physical layer configuration being transmitted in Downlink Control Information (DCI) over a Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH), wherein:

the set of parameters and indices is used to obtain Resource Block (RB) information, and

the RB information comprises a set of resources including at least one of frequency domain, time domain and a modulation scheme; and

transmit, by the serving cell, to the UE, downlink data in an allocated RB over a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH), wherein:

the allocated RB is indicated by the RB information, and

the UE is operable to decode the allocated RB without requiring additional physical layer configuration information from the serving cell.

10. The BS of claim 9 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to execute the computer-executable instructions to:

perform a profile indexing operation to define parameters in the set of parameters and indices; and

assign indices to the parameters to generate the set of parameters and indices.

11. The BS of claim 9 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to execute the computer-executable instructions to:

receive an acknowledgement message from the UE indicating that the UE supports the set of parameters and indices.

12. The BS of claim 9 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to execute the computer-executable instructions to:

reconfigure the set of parameters and indices; and

transmit a Radio Resource Control (RRC) message to the UE indicating changes to the set of parameters and indices after the reconfiguration, wherein

the changes to the set of parameters and indices comprise at least one of adding a new index for a new set of parameters, removing an existing index and an associated set of parameters, and canceling all of indices and parameters in the set of parameters and indices.

13. The BS of claim 9 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to execute the computer-executable instructions to:

count a predefined time interval after transmitting the DCI to the UE, wherein during the predefined time interval, the serving cell maintains the set of parameters and indices.
