Abstract

The present disclosure provides three dimensional (3D) printing processes, apparatuses, software, and systems for the production of a 3D object. These may reduce deformation (e.g., warping or bending) in the printed 3D object, as well as facilitate the formation of nested 3D objects. The reduction of deformation may comprise open loop control and/or deviation form a model of the 3D object to generate the 3D object.

Claims (22)

22 . A three-dimensional (3D) object printed by 3D printing, the 3D object comprising:

a first portion nested internally at least in part within a second portion external to the first portion, the first portion comprising a first set of successively deposited layers indicative of the 3D printing, the successively deposited layers having an average layering plane, the second portion comprising a second set of successively deposited layers indicative of the 3D printing having the average layering plane, the second portion comprising an internal cavity in which the first portion is disposed, the first portion unable to physically exit the second portion, the first portion being devoid of auxiliary support mark, the first portion (a) floating anchorlessly within the second portion and/or (b) comprising a bottom skin that is (i) devoid of an auxiliary support mark and (ii) an acute angle between a straight line XY disposed on the bottom skin and the average layering plane of the 3D object is from about zero degrees to about 30 degrees, the 3D object comprising an elemental metal, a metal alloy, a ceramic, or an allotrope of elemental carbon.

23 . The 3D object of claim 22 , wherein the 3D object comprises an elemental metal or a metal alloy.

24 . The 3D object of claim 22 , wherein the second portion comprises one or more openings.

25 . The 3D object of claim 22 , wherein the internal cavity, the first portion, and/or the second portion, has a fundamental length scale of at least about 5 millimeters.

26 . The 3D object of claim 22 , wherein (a) the first portion is devoid of an auxiliary support mark and/or (b) the second portion is devoid of an auxiliary support mark.

27 . The 3D object of claim 26 , wherein (a) the first portion is devoid of an auxiliary support mark and (b) the second portion is devoid of an auxiliary support mark.

28 . The 3D object of claim 22 , wherein (a) the second portion comprises a 3D plane and/or (b) the first portion comprises a 3D plane.

29 . The 3D object of claim 22 , wherein (a) the second portion comprises a wire and/or (b) the first portion comprises a wire.

30 . The 3D object of claim 22 , wherein the second portion fully encloses the first portion.

31 . The 3D object of claim 22 , wherein the second portion comprises a physical grid.

32 . The 3D object of claim 31 , wherein a wire of the physical grid is at most about one millimeter wide.

33 . The 3D object of claim 22 , wherein the 3D object comprises successively solidified melt pools in a layer of the first set and/or the second set.

34 . The 3D object of claim 22 , wherein the 3D object comprises successively solidified tiles arranged in a path of tiles, the tiles disposed in a layer of the first set and/or the second set.

35 . The 3D object of claim 34 , wherein tiles in the path of tiles partially overlap each other.

36 . The 3D object of claim 22 , wherein a deviation of the 3D object that has been printed from a requested 3D object is at most about a sum of 100 micrometers and 1/2500 of a fundamental length scale of the requested 3D object.

37 . A method of 3D printing, the method comprising: (a) providing a 3D printer configured for the 3D printing, and (b) using the 3D printer to print the 3D object of claim 22 .

38 . The method of claim 37 , further comprising printing the 3D object from a powder bed.

39 . The method of claim 37 , further comprising revising a morphology of a first model slice to generate a second model slice, the first model slice being of a 3D model of the 3D object requested, which revising is to correct for a projected deformation during or after the 3D printing of the 3D object to print the 3D object requested according to the 3D model.

40 . Non-transitory computer readable program instructions that, when read by one or more processors operatively coupled to a 3D printer configured for the 3D printing, cause the one or more processors to execute one or more operations comprising executing the 3D printing to print the 3D object of claim 22 , the program instructions being stored on at least one non-transitory computer readable medium.

41 . An apparatus for 3D printing, the apparatus comprising at least one controller configured to (a) couple with a power source; (b) operatively couple to a 3D printer; and (c) direct the 3D printer to execute the 3D printing to print the 3D object of claim 22 .
