Abstract

This disclosure relates generally to optically switchable devices, and more particularly, to methods for controlling optically switchable devices. In various embodiments, one or more optically switchable devices may be controlled via voice control and/or gesture control.

Claims (32)

1. A method of controlling a tint state of an electrochromic device, the method comprising:

(a) receiving, at a local controller, from a remote voice recognition module, a text command to cause the electrochromic device to transition to a desired tint state, wherein the text command results from the remote voice recognition module:

receiving a voice command from a local user that conveys information for changing the tint state of the electrochromic device to the desired tint state, and

converting the voice command into the text command and transmitting the text command to the local controller; and,

with the local controller, executing the text command to cause the electrochromic device to transition to the desired tint state, and

wherein converting the voice command into the text command comprises comparing the voice command to a list of devices in a first dictionary and a list of tint states in a second dictionary to determine the electrochromic device and the desired tint state in the voice command.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the local controller is configured to receive the transmitted text command via an application programming interface (API).

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising providing authorization for the text command to cause the tint state of the electrochromic device to be changed.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the authorization is based on whether the local user is authorized to change the tint state of the electrochromic device.

5. The method of claim 3 , wherein the authorization is based on whether the local user is authorized to change the tint state of a group or zone of electrochromic devices containing the electrochromic device.

6. The method of claim 3 , wherein the authorization is for a duration.

7. The method of claim 3 , wherein the authorization is based on receiving a log in of the local user with a passcode and/or facial recognition.

8. The method of claim 3 , wherein the authorization is provided for each text command.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the voice command includes information related to making the electrochromic device lighter or darker.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the voice command includes information related to a name, location, group, or zone of optically switchable devices.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the text command instructs the electrochromic device to switch to the desired tint state according to one or more rules.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the one or more rules relate to a schedule and the text command instructs the electrochromic device to switch to the desired tint state at a scheduled time.

13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the text command indicates the desired tint state without reference to a starting tint state of the electrochromic device.

14. The method of claim 1 , further comprising providing information for a response generation module configured to generate a response to the local user, wherein the information relates to the transition of the electrochromic device to the desired tint state.

15. A system for controlling a tint state of an electrochromic device, the system comprising:

an optically switchable device; and

a local controller communicatively coupled with the electrochromic device and configured to receive, from a remote voice recognition module, a text command to cause the electrochromic device to transition to a desired tint state, wherein the text command results from the remote voice recognition module:

receiving a voice command from a local user that conveys information for changing the tint state of the electrochromic device to the desired tint state, and

converting the voice command into the text command and transmitting the text command to the local controller; and

the local controller is configured to execute the text command to cause the electrochromic device to transition to the desired tint state, and

wherein converting the voice command into the text command comprises comparing the voice command to a list of devices in a first dictionary and a list of tint states in a second dictionary to determine the electrochromic device and the desired tint state in the voice command.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the voice command is received by a microphone on an electronic device.

17. The system of claim 16 , wherein the electronic device is a smartphone, tablet, laptop, personal computer, fitness device, watch, or wall unit.

18. The system of claim 15 , further comprising an authentication module configured to provide authorization for the text command to change the tint state of the electrochromic device.

19. The system of claim 18 , wherein the authorization is based on whether the local user is authorized to change the tint state of the optically switchable device.

20. The system of claim 18 , wherein the authorization is based on whether the local user is authorized to change the tint state of a group or zone of electrochromic devices containing the electrochromic device.

21. The system of claim 18 , wherein the authorization is based on receiving a log in of the local user with a passcode and/or facial recognition via a smartphone, tablet, laptop, personal computer, fitness device, watch, or wall unit.
