Abstract

Devices for removing implanted objects from body vessels are provided. A device includes a sheath assembly having a cutting tip. The cutting tip includes a cutting surface that is adapted to cut tissue coupled to an implanted object as the cutting tip rotates. The sheath assembly further includes an outer shield carried outside of the cutting tip. The outer shield includes a distal opening, and the outer shield is translatable relative to the cutting tip from a first position to a second position and vice versa. In the first position the cutting surface of the cutting tip is disposed within the outer shield, and in the second position the cutting tip extends through the distal opening and the cutting surface is at least partially disposed outside of the outer shield.

Claims (33)

1 . A surgical device, comprising:

a sheath assembly sized and shaped for positioning inside a vessel of a patient, wherein the sheath assembly configured to:

separate a lead from tissue inside the patient; and

receive the lead for removal from the patient; and

a handle coupled to the sheath assembly, wherein the handle comprises:

a trigger configured to be activated by a user;

a motor positioned inside the handle; and

a controller positioned inside the handle and electrically coupled to the motor, wherein the controller is configured to:

receive a signal when the trigger is activated by the user; and

in response to the signal, allow the motor to be actuated to cause the sheath assembly to separate the lead from the tissue.

2 . The surgical device of claim 1 ,

wherein the handle comprises a top portion and a bottom portion,

wherein the motor is positioned inside the top portion, and

wherein the motor and the controller are positioned inside the bottom portion.

3 . The surgical device of claim 2 , wherein the sheath assembly extends within the top portion.

4 . The surgical device of claim 1 , trigger,

wherein the handle comprises a trigger switch positioned inside the handle and coupled to the

wherein the trigger switch is configured to send the signal to the controller.

5 . The surgical device of claim 4 ,

wherein the trigger switch is configured to be activated when the trigger is activated by the user,

wherein the trigger switch, a battery, the controller, and the motor are configured to form an electrical circuit,

wherein the electrical circuit is closed when the trigger switch is activated.

6 . The surgical device of claim 5 , wherein the handle comprises a pull tab configured to interrupt the electrical circuit.

7 . The surgical device of claim 6 , wherein the handle comprises:

a second battery positioned inside the handle.

8 . The surgical device of claim 7 , wherein the pull tab is disposed between the battery and the second battery.

9 . The surgical device of claim 8 ,

wherein the handle comprises a power switch,

wherein at least one of the battery or the second battery is configured to power the controller when the power switch is in an on position and the pull tab is removed.

10 . The surgical device of claim 1 ,

wherein the handle comprises a circuit board positioned inside the handle,

wherein the circuit board comprises the controller.

11 . The surgical device of claim 1 , wherein the handle comprises a plurality of gears configured to couple the sheath assembly and the motor.
