Abstract

This document describes systems and processes manufacturing and distributing stone slabs, such as including distributing a stone slab and a slab image file associated with the stone slab. The slab image file may include an image and associated information to facilitate one or more operations related to the stone slab.

Claims (32)

1 . A method of processing manufactured stone slabs, the method comprising:

imaging a manufactured stone slab to generate a slab image file associated with a particular manufactured stone slab, wherein the slab image file comprises a dimensional accuracy between aesthetic features within the slab image file consistent with the particular manufactured stone slab;

generating a plurality of metadata for the slab image file, the plurality of metadata associated with physical characteristics of the particular manufactured stone slab;

associating the plurality of metadata with the slab image file according to a unique identifier for the particular manufactured stone slab;

assigning the particular manufactured stone slab to a group of manufactured stone slabs when at least one characteristic of the plurality of metadata is within a range associated with the at least one characteristic for the group; and

distributing from a first location to a second location, the particular manufactured stone slab and another particular manufactured stone slab sharing the at least one characteristic of the group.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein generating the plurality of metadata for the slab image file includes generating a color measurement by analyzing the slab image file using L*a*b* values.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein L*a*b* values are determined for at least one location of the slab image file to provide an indicator of at least one color characteristic of the particular manufactured stone slab.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one characteristic of the plurality of metadata includes a defect identifier.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the defect identifier includes a defect location and a defect characteristic.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the range associated with the at least one characteristic for the group is the absence of defects.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one characteristic of the plurality of metadata includes at least one of a characteristic of color intensity, a characteristic of color uniformity, a characteristic of color tonality, a characteristic of veining, a characteristic of flow, a characteristic of movement, a characteristic of distribution of particulate material, or a characteristic of surface property.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one characteristic of the plurality of metadata is an array of values representative of color values at one or more locations of the particular manufactured stone slab.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the slab image file is distortion-free such that a length ratio (L slab /L image ) of unit slab length to image length is substantially consistent at any location of the slab image file.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the group is a common installation and assigning the particular manufactured stone slab to a group of manufactured stone slabs includes matching the at least one characteristic of the plurality of metadata to the at least one characteristic for the group.

11 . A system for processing manufactured stone slabs, the system comprising:

an image generator configured to:

generate a slab image file associated with a particular manufactured stone slab, wherein the slab image file comprises a dimensional accuracy between aesthetic features within the slab image file consistent with the particular manufactured stone slab, and

generate plurality of metadata for the slab image file, the plurality of metadata associated with physical characteristics of the particular manufactured stone slab; and

a database configured to store the slab image file and the metadata including:

an association of the plurality of metadata with the slab image file according to a unique identifier for the particular manufactured stone slab, and

an assignment of the particular manufactured stone slab to a group of manufactured stone slabs when at least one characteristic of the plurality of metadata is within a range associated with the at least one characteristic for the group,

wherein the particular manufactured stone slab and another particular manufactured stone slab sharing the at least one characteristic of the group are distributed from a first location to a second location.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the image generator is configured to generate the plurality of metadata for the slab image file including by generating a color measurement by analyzing the slab image file using L*a*b* values.

13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein L*a*b* values are determined for at least one location of the slab image file to provide an indicator of at least one color characteristic of the particular manufactured stone slab.

14 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the at least one characteristic of the plurality of metadata includes a defect identifier.

15 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the defect identifier includes a defect location and a defect characteristic.

16 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the range associated with the at least one characteristic for the group is the absence of defects.

The system of claim 11 , wherein the at least one characteristic of the plurality of metadata includes at least one of a characteristic of color intensity, a characteristic of color uniformity, a characteristic of color tonality, a characteristic of veining, a characteristic of flow, a characteristic of movement, a characteristic of distribution of particulate material, or a characteristic of surface property.

18 . The system of claim 11 , wherein at least one characteristic of the plurality of metadata is an array of values representative of color values at one or more locations of the particular manufactured stone slab.

19 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the slab image file is distortion-free such that a length ratio (L slab /L image ) of unit slab length to image length is substantially consistent at any location of the slab image file.

20 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the group is a common installation and assigning the particular manufactured stone slab to a group of manufactured stone slabs includes matching the at least one characteristic of the plurality of metadata to the at least one characteristic for the group.
