Abstract

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer-storage media, for enhanced cloud computing deployment. In some implementations, a computer system provides a repository comprising (i) deployment tools configured to provide a deployment application programming interface (API), (ii) a set of container files configured to operate together to provide a server environment, and (iii) configuration data for the container images. The computer system can provide a deployment workflow package that, when invoked for a cloud computing account of the customer, is configured to retrieve the container files, configuration data, and deployment tools from the repository over a communication network and store the retrieved items in the cloud computing account. The deployment workflow package is also configured to run the deployment tools and create deployment infrastructure in the cloud computing account.

Claims (44)

1. A method performed by one or more computers, the method comprising:

creating, by the one or more computers, a cluster of processing nodes and allocating computing resources for the cluster;

deploying an environment configuration module configured to create and manage computing environments that run on the cluster;

creating, using the environment configuration module, one or more computing environments to run on the cluster, including, for each of the one or more computing environments, (i) creating an environment namespace, (ii) creating one or more containers in the environment namespace based on one or more container images; and

providing access to the one or more computing environments through a computing network.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the environment configuration module is deployed on the cluster.

3. The method of claim 1 , comprising creating a management namespace for the cluster, wherein the environment configuration module is deployed in the management namespace.

4. The method of claim 3 , comprising deploying, in the management namespace, one or more modules for at least one of monitoring environments of the cluster, reporting status of the environments of the cluster, or issuing alerts based on status of the environments of the cluster.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the environment configuration module is deployed in a management namespace of the cluster, and each of the one or more computing environments is created in a separate namespace of the cluster.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein creating the one or more computing environments comprises (i) deriving configuration settings for a particular computing environment from a source environment or an archive and (ii) configuring the particular computing environment using the derived configuration settings.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein creating the one or more computing environments involves the environment configuration module:

identifying a set of container images needed to provide the containers of the one or more computing environments; and

accessing configuration data that includes package information for installing and configuring the container images.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the configuration data comprises at least one of:

information identifying software dependencies;

information indicating data dependencies;

default configuration values;

templates for generating manifest files;

version control information; or

scope and namespace information.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cluster is a cluster implemented using a cloud computing platform; and

wherein the cluster, environment configuration module, and one or more computing environments are established for a particular account in the cloud computing platform.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the particular account has a deployment orchestrator and deployment controller configured to act as a server to act as an entry point for request made through an application programming interface (API); and

wherein creation of the cluster and deployment of the environment configuration module are initiated by the deployment orchestrator in response to a request or instruction made using the API.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the deployment orchestrator provisions a file system is configured to act as a shared volume for multiple computing environments run on the cluster.

12. The method of claim 10 , wherein the deployment orchestrator provisions a database engine configured to process structured query language (SQL) statements and connect to existing databases.

13. The method of claim 1 , comprising creating, for at least one of the one or more computing environments of the cluster, creating an environment pod that includes multiple containers that are managed as a single entity and they share the resources of the environment pod.

14. A system comprising:

one or more computers; and

one or more computer-readable media storing instructions that are operable, when executed by the one or more computers, to cause the one or more computers to perform operations comprising:

creating, by the one or more computers, a cluster of processing nodes and allocating computing resources for the cluster;

deploying an environment configuration module configured to create and manage computing environments that run on the cluster;

creating, using the environment configuration module, one or more computing environments to run on the cluster, including, for each of the one or more computing environments, (i) creating an environment namespace, (ii) creating one or more containers in the environment namespace based on one or more container images; and

providing access to the one or more computing environments through a computing network.

15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the environment configuration module is deployed on the cluster.

16. The system of claim 14 , comprising creating a management namespace for the cluster, wherein the environment configuration module is deployed in the management namespace.

17. The system of claim 16 , comprising deploying, in the management namespace, one or more modules for at least one of monitoring environments of the cluster, reporting status of the environments of the cluster, or issuing alerts based on status of the environments of the cluster.

18. The system of claim 14 , wherein the environment configuration module is deployed in a management namespace of the cluster, and each of the one or more computing environments is created in a separate namespace of the cluster.

19. The system of claim 14 , wherein creating the one or more computing environments comprises (i) deriving configuration settings for a particular computing environment from a source environment or an archive and (ii) configuring the particular computing environment using the derived configuration settings.

20. One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions that are operable, when executed by one or more computers, to cause the one or more computers to perform operations comprising:

creating, by the one or more computers, a cluster of processing nodes and allocating computing resources for the cluster;

deploying an environment configuration module configured to create and manage computing environments that run on the cluster;

creating, using the environment configuration module, one or more computing environments to run on the cluster, including, for each of the one or more computing environments, (i) creating an environment namespace, (ii) creating one or more containers in the environment namespace based on one or more container images; and

providing access to the one or more computing environments through a computing network.
