Abstract

In various representative aspects, an assembly for securing a solar panel rail and rail-less support structures to a shingle roof. More specifically, the apparatus includes a connection bracket and flashing device for use in installing solar panel rail support structures. The connection bracket is secured to the flashing device by rotating its base around a threaded connection until it locks in place so that a solar panel rail support guide can be connected to a generally U-shaped connection on the top of the bracket. The apparatus also offers an improved means to cover the penetration point on the flashing to protect it and prevent water from leaking into the roof as well as an improved way to install the apparatus over existing products. An alternate embodiment of the apparatus is offered to support a rail-less pivot mount as well.

Claims (16)

1. A mounting device comprising:

a base having a top, an opening at the top for receiving a bolt, opposed sides, an internal cavity, and an open bottom in communication with the internal cavity;

an upper portion detachably connected to the base, the upper portion extending upward from the top and including a vertical member, the upper portion further including a face, an aperture in the face extending through the vertical member in a direction transverse to the face, and opposed minor sides flanking the face, wherein the minor sides are narrower than the sides of the base; and

a seal disposed within the internal cavity of the base.

2. The mounting device of claim 1 ,

wherein the opening is formed through the base to align the bolt, when applied to the opening, through the internal cavity and the open bottom.

3. The mounting device of claim 1 , further comprising a seal under the base.

4. A mounting device comprising:

a base having a top, a bottom, an opening at the top for receiving a bolt, and an internal cavity;

an upper portion extending upward from the top of the base, the upper portion including a face and an aperture in the face extending through a vertical member in a direction transverse to the face,

wherein the upper portion comprises opposed first and second members each extending upwardly from the top of the base to the face of the upper portion, and

wherein the first and second members flank the opening at the top of the base, and project outwardly in opposing directions from each other.

5. The mounting device of claim 4 , wherein the opening is in communication with the internal cavity and aligns the bolt applied thereto through the internal cavity.

6. The mounting device of claim 4 , further comprising a bolt applied to the opening and extending through the internal cavity and the bottom of the base.

7. The mounting device of claim 4 , further comprising a seal retained under the bottom.

8. The mounting device of claim 4 , further comprising a seal applied to the internal cavity of the base.
