Abstract

Claims (26)

1 . A method of blending a fracturing fluid for delivery to a wellbore to be fractured, comprising:

providing a turbine generator at a well site, wherein the turbine generator provides a dedicated source of electrical power; and

providing at least one electric blender at the site, the electric blender comprising a blender tub that receives fluid from a fluid source and a fluid additive source;

wherein the electric blender receives electric power from the source of electric power to effect blending of a fluid from the fluid source with a fluid additive from the fluid additive source to generate the fracturing fluid;

wherein the electric blender further comprises a blender unit having an inlet electric motor and an electric discharge motor; and

wherein the dedicated source of electric power supplies electricity to the inlet electric motor, and the electric discharge motor.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the turbine generator is driven by a natural gas source to produce electrical power.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the fluid from the fluid source is blended with the fluid additive from the fluid additive source in the blender tub.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the discharge electric motor is operatively associated with the source of electric power to effect blending of the fluid from the fluid source with the fluid additive from the fluid additive source.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the inlet electric motor effects delivery of the fluid from the fluid source to the blending tub.

6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the electric blender further comprises a second inlet electric motor operatively associated with the source of electric power, wherein the second inlet electric motor effects delivery of the fluid additive from the fluid additive source to the blending tub.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the blender comprises a blender tub that receives fluid from the fluid source and the fluid additive source.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the blender further comprises a second inlet electric motor operatively associated with the source of electric power, wherein the second electric motor effects delivery of the fluid additive from the fluid additive source to the blending tub.

9 . An apparatus for blending a fracturing fluid for delivery to a wellbore to be fractured, the apparatus comprising:

a turbine generator, wherein the turbine generator provides a dedicated source of electrical power; and

at least one electric blender, the electric blender comprising a blender tub that receives fluid from a fluid source and a fluid additive source;

wherein the electric blender receives electric power from the source of electric power to effect blending of a fluid from the fluid source with a fluid additive from the fluid additive source to generate the fracturing fluid; and

wherein the electric blender further comprises a blender unit having: an inlet electric motor and an electric discharge motor; and

wherein the dedicated source of electric power supplies electricity to the inlet electric motor, and the electric discharge motor.

10 . The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the turbine generator is driven by a natural gas source to produce electrical power.

11 . The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the blender further comprises a proppant delivery system.

12 . The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the inlet electric motor effects delivery of the fluid from the fluid source to the blending tub.

13 . The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the electric blender further comprises a second inlet electric motor operatively associated with the source of electric power, wherein the second inlet electric motor effects delivery of the fluid additive from the fluid additive source to the blending tub.

14 . The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein fluid from the fluid source is blended with the fluid additive from the fluid additive source in the blender tub.

15 . The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the discharge electric motor is operatively associated with the source of electric power to effect blending of the fluid from the fluid source with the fluid additive from the fluid additive source.

16 . The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the turbine generator provides a dedicated source of electric power to the electric blender.
