Abstract

Sport boots have an outer shell and an ankle compression system attached to and positioned within the outer shell to apply selective compressive force against an anterior ankle portion of a person's foot when wearing the boot. The ankle compression system includes an ankle compression member positioned forwardly adjacent to the anterior ankle portion and at least one medial positioning band having a lower terminal end immovably fixed to a medial edge portion of the strobel and having an opposite end operatively associated with the ankle compression member. An adjustment lace is connected to the ankle compression member and is operatively connected to a tightening member positioned on a lateral side of the outer shell so that operation of the tightening causes the adjustment lace to forcibly draw the ankle compression member toward and exert a selective compressive force against the anterior ankle portion of the person's foot.

Claims (23)

1. A sport boot comprising:

an outer shell;

a strobel affixed to the outer shell; and

an ankle compression system attached to and positioned within the outer shell to apply selective compressive force against an anterior ankle portion of a person's foot when wearing the boot, wherein

the ankle compression system comprises:

(a) an ankle compression member which includes an intermediate compression region having medial and lateral edge regions which is configured to being positioned forwardly adjacent the anterior ankle portion, and upper and lower lace quide channels extending transversely along the intermediate compression region between the medial and lateral edges thereof;

(b) a medial positioning band extending downwardly and rearwardly away from a medial edge region of the ankle compression member and having a lower terminal end immovably fixed to a medial edge portion of the strobel and an opposite upper terminal end having a medial eyelet channel positioned adjacent to the medial edge region of the ankle compression member;

(c) a lateral positioning band which extends downwardly and rearwardly away from a lateral edge region of the ankle compression member and having a lower terminal end immovably fixed to a lateral edge portion of the strobel and an opposite upper terminal end positioned adjacent to the lateral edge region of the ankle compression member;

(d) a tightening member positioned on a lateral side of the outer shell; and

(e) an adjustment lace operatively connecting the ankle compression member to the medial and lateral positioning straps, wherein the adjustment lace includes;

(i) an upper end portion operatively connected to the tightening member,

(ii) a lower end portion positionally fixed to the upper terminal end of the lateral positioning strap, and

(iii) an intermediate portion between the upper end portion operatively connected to the tightening member and the lower end portion positionally fixed to the upper terminal end of the lateral positioning strap, wherein the intermediate portion is slidably inserted through the lower lace quide channel and is then slidably inserted through the medial eyelet channel of the medial positioning band, the intermediate portion then being doubled back from the medial eyelet channel of the medial positioning band at a medial edge of the ankle compression member and is slidably inserted through the upper lace quide channel, wherein

the tightening member is operable to shorten and effective length of the adjustment lace between the upper and lower end portions thereof to responsively cause the adjustment lace to forcibly draw the ankle compression member toward and exert a selective compressive force against the anterior ankle portion of the person's foot when wearing the boot.

2. The sport boot according to claim 1 , wherein the upper terminal end of the lateral positioning band includes a lateral eyelet channel, and wherein the lower end portion of the adjustment lace is positionally fixed to the lateral eyelet channel of the lateral positioning band.

3. The sport boot according to claim 1 , wherein each of the medial and lateral positioning bands is affixed to an interior portion of the outer shell between the upper and lower terminal ends thereof.

4. The sport boot according to claim 3 , wherein the medial and lateral positioning bands are affixed to the interior portion of the outer shell by stitching and/or gluing.

5. The sport boot according to claim 1 , wherein the lower terminal ends of each of the lateral and medial positioning bands is immovably fixed to lateral and medial edge portions, respectively, of the strobel.

6. The sport boot according to claim 1 , further comprising:

an upper shaft which defining an opening toward a front of the sport boot,

a tongue closing the opening of the upper shaft, and

a secondary adjustment mechanism associated with the tongue and operatively engaged with external boot laces of the upper shaft at the opening of the upper shaft.

7. The sport boot according to claim 1 , wherein the upper and lower lace guide channels are substantially parallel to one another and extend along the intermediate compression region between the medial and lateral edges thereof.
