Abstract

An electronic display assembly includes an electronic display located within a housing. A first airflow pathway fluidly connected to an ambient environment extends through at least a portion of the housing. A second airflow pathway, separated from the first airflow pathway, forms a closed loop within the housing. Some or all electronic components for operating the electronic display assembly are located within the second airflow pathway, such as to at least partially isolate such electronics from dust or other containments in ambient air.

Claims (65)

1. An electronic display assembly comprising:

a housing;

an electronic display located within the housing, said electronic display comprising a liquid crystal type display and a backlight;

a first airflow pathway fluidly connected to an ambient environment and extending through at least a portion of the housing;

a second airflow pathway, separated from the first airflow pathway, and forming a closed loop within the housing, wherein a rear portion of the backlight, defines, at least in part, the second airflow pathway; and

one or more electronic components for operating the electronic display assembly located within the second airflow pathway.

2. The electronic display assembly of claim 1 wherein:

at least a portion of the second airflow pathway is located rearward of the electronic display.

3. The electronic display assembly of claim 1 wherein:

at least a portion of the second airflow pathway is located forward of the electronic display.

4. The electronic display assembly of claim 1 wherein:

the second airflow pathway comprises a first portion located forward of the electronic display and a second portion located rearward of the electronic display.

5. The electronic display assembly of claim 1 wherein:

all electronic components for operating the electronic display assembly, including the one or more electronic components, are located within the second airflow pathway.

6. The electronic display assembly of claim 1 wherein:

said one or more electronic components comprise a transformer, a circuit board, a resistor, a capacitor, a battery, a power transformer, and wiring; and

each of said at least one electronic component is located within said second airflow pathway.

7. The electronic display assembly of claim 1 wherein:

the second airflow pathway is fluidly separated from the first airflow pathway in a manner which prevents any dust or contaminates above a predetermined size in ambient air within the first airflow pathway from entering the second airflow pathway.

8. The electronic display assembly of claim 7 further comprising:

a filter located within the housing providing at least some of said separation between the first airflow pathway and the second airflow pathway.

9. The electronic display assembly of claim 1 wherein:

the electronic display comprises a touch sensitive layer.

10. The electronic display assembly of claim 1 further comprising:

a heat exchanger located rearward of the electronic display and forming part of the first airflow pathway and the second airflow pathway.

11. The electronic display assembly of claim 1 further comprising:

a first set of one or more fans located within the first airflow pathway; and

a second set of one or more fans located within the second airflow pathway.

12. The electronic display assembly of claim 1 further comprising:

a panel spaced apart from a rear surface of the electronic display; and

a third airflow pathway fluidly connected to the ambient environment and located, at least in part, between the panel and the electronic display.

13. The electronic display assembly of claim 12 wherein:

at least some of said one or more electronic components are directly connected to a rear surface of the panel by the adhesive.

14. The electronic display assembly of claim 1 wherein:

at least a portion of the second airflow pathway is located between a rear surface of the electronic display and an interior surface of a rear portion of said housing.

15. The electronic display assembly of claim 14 further comprising:

a cover located forward of the electronic display and forming a front portion of the housing, wherein at least another portion of the second airflow pathway is located between an interior surface of the cover and a forward surface of the electronic display.

16. The electronic display assembly of claim 1 further comprising:

a heat exchanger located rearward of the electronic display and forming part of the first airflow pathway and the second airflow pathway;

a panel spaced apart from a rear surface of the electronic display; and

a third airflow pathway fluidly connected to the ambient environment and located, at least in part, between the panel and the electronic display, wherein at least some of said one or more electronic components are mounted to a rear surface of the panel.

17. An electronic display assembly comprising:

a housing having an intake and an exhaust;

an electronic display located within the housing;

a first airflow pathway extending between the intake and the exhaust, wherein at least a portion of said first airflow pathway extends rearward of the electronic display and forward of an interior surface of said housing;

a second airflow pathway, separated from the first airflow pathway, and forming a closed loop within the housing;

a first set of one or more fans located within the first airflow pathway for moving ambient air through the first airflow pathway when operated;

a second set of one or more fans located within the second airflow pathway for moving circulating gas through the second airflow pathway when operated; and

all power modules for the electronic display assembly located within the second airflow pathway.

18. An electronic display assembly comprising:

a housing;

an electronic display located within the housing;

a closed loop airflow pathway extending within the housing, wherein the closed loop airflow pathway is fluidly separated from an ambient environment, and wherein the closed loop airflow pathway comprises a first portion extending forward of the electronic display and a second portion extending rearward of the electronic display;

one or more fans located within the second portion of the closed loop airflow pathway for moving circulating gas through the closed loop airflow pathway when operated; and

power modules, at least one timing and control board, at least one electronic storage device, at least one video card, and at least one other control device located within the second portion of the closed loop airflow pathway.

19. The electronic display assembly of claim 17 wherein:

all electronic components for operating the electronic display assembly, including the power modules, are located within the second airflow pathway.

20. An electronic display assembly comprising:

a housing;

an electronic display within the housing;

a first airflow pathway fluidly connected to an ambient environment and extending through at least a portion of the housing;

a second airflow pathway, separated from the first airflow pathway, and forming a closed loop within the housing;

one or more electronic components for operating the electronic display assembly located within the second airflow pathway;

a panel spaced apart from a rear surface of the electronic display; and

a third airflow pathway fluidly connected to the ambient environment and located, at least in part, between the panel and the electronic display.
