Enhanced edge application relocation
Disclosed herein is service continuity assistance (SCA) functionality that may assist in the relocation of edge application server instance between different edge nodes in the system. The procedures may include: 1) edge application relocation target prediction and selection; 2) defining and generating relocation trigger; 3) proactive relocation; or 4) multi-application and multi-UE joint relocation.
1 . An apparatus comprising one or more processors and memory storing instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the apparatus to:
determine trigger criteria for a service continuity event of an edge application to relocate from a first edge application server to a second edge application server, wherein the trigger criteria comprise one or more threshold measurements of one or more performance indicators associated with the edge application on one or more candidate edge nodes for relocation, and wherein the second edge application server is one of the one or more candidate edge nodes for relocation;
select the second edge application server to perform the service continuity event of the edge application;
receive one or more messages indicating information related to the service continuity event of the edge application; and
based on the trigger criteria and the information related to the service continuity event, send instructions to the second edge application server to perform relocation associated with the service continuity event of the edge application.
2 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the one or more threshold measurements of the one or more performance indicators associated with the edge application comprises processing time of the edge application.
3 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the information related to the service continuity event of the edge application comprises one or more indications of candidates for a potential relocation.
4 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the apparatus to:
send a proactive service continuity request to a service continuity assistance (SCA) server.
5 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the apparatus to:
manage status of the service continuity event.
6 . The apparatus of claim 1 , the operations further comprising performing application relocation with a service continuity assistance (SCA) server when triggered.
7 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the apparatus to:
select a third edge application server to be a candidate edge node that can perform the service continuity event of the edge application.
8 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the apparatus to:
determine if the service continuity event will be performed based on the information related to the service continuity event of the edge application.
9 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the apparatus to:
notify the second edge application server that the service continuity event will not be performed with the second edge application server.
10 . A method comprising:
determining trigger criteria for service continuity event of an edge application to relocate from a first edge application server to a second edge application server, wherein the trigger criteria comprise one or more threshold measurements of one or more performance indicators associated with the edge application on one or more candidate edge nodes for relocation, and wherein the second edge application server is one of the one or more candidate edge nodes for relocation;
selecting the second edge application server to perform the service continuity event of the edge application;
receiving one or more messages indicating information related to the service continuity event of the edge application; and
based on the trigger criteria and the information related to the service continuity event, sending instructions to the second edge application server to perform relocation associated with the service continuity event of the edge application.
11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the one or more threshold measurements of the one or more performance indicators associated with the edge application comprises processing time of the edge application.
12 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the information related to the service continuity event of the edge application comprises one or more indications of candidates for a potential relocation.
13 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising:
sending a proactive service continuity request to a service continuity assistance (SCA) server.
